Something i actually quite like has come up for sale. Ticks almost all the boxes i'm after.

except It's a Japanese import.

So Insurance say 'Bend over and get rammed brutally up the arse multiple times over, with no lube'.

Also, when did little plastic storage boxes get so bloody expensive/hard to find?!?

This sort of thing.

Screenshot_20230706_173808.jpg

I'm actually cheaper buying a bunch of the nail/wiring clip/screw/washer variety packs from B&M and just dumping the contents than buying the containers they come in.  None of the stores I searched had any in a vaguely useful size, and Amazon want...wait for it, a tenner each for the one pictured above.  I really need somewhere in the region of 70 compartments to bring some sanity to my electronic component storage mess.

May just get a larger rank of wall hung component drawers, I'd just hoped for a cheap and easy solution...those things to my mind are a pound or two each, not a bloody tenner.  If I'm paying actual money to do this I may as well just do things in a way I don't want to upgrade from in the future.

Only other places I can think of are chain or independent "used to be pound shops but now minimum of £1.50 shops". They don't usually have websites that to check what's being sold and if they do they don't show stock levels.

They are still around a pound on Ali Express. Some suppliers offer free postage if you order over £10 worth.

Doing the BMW's diff oil.

Went to screwfix to get a syringe to replace fluid - none in stock. Mention was made of "tomorrow" but the car is up on my ramps and tomorrow doesn't mean anything these days.

Sadly I had to get my wife to order one from Amazon which gripped my shit - I try to avoid them but I was left with no choice - it will come tomorrow.

Amazon prime is supposed to be get you out of the shit, will turn up tomorrow. Last couple of my orders it's been oh dear we fucked up, should be with you in a day or 3 or maybe next week. Doing a royal mail, it's late so fuck it.

Bit mad that the on it's way but delayed one will be 3 days when you can go back on the site, order it again for next day and bin off the original.

Bloody Wilco...the one I of course forgot to check.

Oh well, I know where to look next time I'm over that way!  Thanks for the reminder they exist.

I did check B&Q today, but they didn't have any that looked useful sizes - at least that I could find, though if you threw a bag of tennis balls into a running airplane propeller the resulting distribution pattern would probably make more sense than the layout of that store...

I got a “happy Halloween “ email about 2 months ago! To be fair it was from a seed supply company for pumpkin seeds.

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I've just heard the Fiesta has come to the end of its run-for ever! They're great little cars and knocked the Metro into a cocked hat! I'll miss them!

The Focus is going to be discontinued soon as well.  Seems Ford are giving up on building "normal" cars in favour of blobby crossover/SUV things.

By contrast, Vauxhall introduced a new Corsa in 2019 and a new Astra in 2021, so it seems Stellantis still see a future in hatchbacks.

I presume the SUV thing is so they can just make an EV version easily with room for the batteries under floor.

I think mainly they just sell better, cost no more to build but sell for more and therefore have a higher profit margin

So grump resolved for a change!

I advised my son not to get a P plate. I reckon if you have a crash with another car, the other driver is going to point and blame the new driver regardless.

There's somebody down the road from me that has P plates all over their car. 1 on the front, 1 on the back, 1 on the front doors on each side.

Makes me think they've got zero confidence and are asking to be bullied by twats on the road, and like that, get the blame no matter what happens, which will give them even less confidence and make them a total hesitant nervous wreck.

The very first thing i noticed when i passed my test was just how differently you get treated. Drivers see any plates on a car, it's just a license to be treated like dirt, cut up, have drivers chance it at junctions etc. The second you don't have a car with plates on, that massively reduces.

Excuse me! Compartmentalization is what anyone with a liking for organized components desires.

FTFY.  Have driven my parents' Jazz a couple of times recently, and the behaviour of other road users towards me is totally different to when I'm in my Focus, especially people pulling out of junctions in front of me.  They see a Jazz and automatically assume it's being driven by a 90-year old and won't be doing more than 12mph.

Yeabut, I don't mind if they accelerate to 30, 40, or whatever rapidly. DO NOT pull swiftly out, then dawdle. Just sayin..

When i had the old Discovery, going between that and the Cinquecento was wild. Constantly pulled out on (i think there was a small part of people misjudging distances with such a tiny car to boot) and cut up, strangely in the Discovery, people were much less willing to take a chance with a 28 year old big 2 ton black chunk of metal that looked like the driver would give zero fucks if a few more battle scars got added 🤣

When my son was learning to drive I'd leave the 'L' plates on the Corsa and go to work or town in it. It's amazing how many dickheads would drive at you, tailgate or try and bully their way past. Pretty much all sad fat middle aged bastards, and pretty much all oddly enough seemed far less inclined to stop and discuss things when they realised you weren't some young nervous kid.

My daily is an older wheelchair adapted van (albeit with most of the associated gubbins having been removed somewhere in the last 20 years).  It's like driving around with a bull's eye painted on you and a giant flashing sign saying "be a total dick to this driver."

Which especially if you're driving somewhere you're not familiar with gets real old in a hurry.

As does the number of people who absolutely refuse to let you overtake them on the motorway in it, despite me having been cruising happily at 70 while they were doing about 45 until I tried to overtake.  You get the odd one or two of those on any motorway trip I find, but the frequency of it seems way, way, way higher when driving the Caddy than anything else in the fleet.

Out to the shops earlier today; as I got out of the Yaris a sudden gust of wind blew the door back into my face - knocking my glasses off onto the ground.

Plastic frame broken, lenses scuffed on the tarmac.

Currently superglued back together again, and they may stay that way as I absolutely don't have £300 spare for replacements.

Fuckstix.

Bloody Windaz.

I foolishly offered to have a poke about with a laptop that a neighbour was having problems with and he was going to buy a new one but would need an external optical drive to do whatever he wanted to do with it.

The one he has is a HP and seems competent enough and has a built in optical drive.  A few years old but younger than mine.

But Windows is a right pile of dogshit.  It looks like he is going to get Linux Mint installed so he has a working laptop.

Put a CD in and it played for a couple of minutes then spat it out claiming it couldn't rip it, not that it had been asked to, only to play.

Put a DVD in (Picnic At Hanging Rock) and it couldn't play it, had to download/install a DVD player.

High on cosmetic touches, null poeng for functionality.

Picked up another stonechip on the Maestro windscreen today.  It already had one when I got the car, both are outside the swept area of the glass and both are practically invisible unless the light hits it just so.  My windscreen excess is more than the cost of a new screen and fitting too, which is a bit irritating.  Hopefully the new chip doesn't grow and become a crack because I do not have the funds for a new screen right now.  It wouldn't be so bad if I knew fitting a new screen to a car increased its value, fact is it never does.  Now very torn about investing in a new screen if i don't have to (ie: the chips get no bigger) since I am still planning to sell this car next year.

Have you got a copy of your prescription? you can get a decent pair of specs for 1/3rd of the price of an opticians if you buy online. There's usually a model number printed on one of the arms if you want exactly the same as you already have.

That's what I usually do when I ruin a pair.
