Thanks Cats.

PM duly responded, I just need to try and dig out a suitable quality artwork file.  I believe whoever did the original mugs may have done some tweaking.

My only request would be that if there’s a profit being made, it should go to the forum running costs fund 😊

Ha!, used my special swiss army multiskillz to good effect and mended our ancient Sky Box in time for Chrimbo (so I can inflict a load of old war films made years before I was born on the kids). Even found time to repair the dish so it doesn't move every time there is a slight gust of wind.

Next job, to do the fork seals on my Triumph, which is dirty and a bit painstaking but ultimately quite rewarding (much like WW2).

Xmas present for my best mate to cheer him up.

Despite all we’ve got going on at the moment, something made me smile this evening. Popped into a local shop on the way home and noticed a newly installed defibrillator on the wall of the, er, undertakers. First thought, that’s fucking optimistic, second, or potentially bad for business!

I don't really see the point of the defibs , by the time it's noticed you have dropped , someone's found a defib , the door code and set it up , your gone , and if you are brought back you are in a state , ffs even the one at work was kept in a locked office so it was not avb after hours ...!!

You could argue that with any medical emergency. If you’re too far from help , you’ve no chance. With defibrillators, if you’re near one and someone knows what to do , it might buy some time before the ambulance gets there.

But it’s the thought that counts!

Just watched an advert on the telly for Skoda.

However they made a proper effort to pronounce it Schoda.

Is that a thing now?

To be pedantic, it was always a thing and we have been saying it wrong/having it adjusted for us in adverts as we don't use accents. 'Ś' is a 'Sh' sound, so Sh-cod-er is how it was always named.

See also Volkswagen, BMW and probably every other manufacturer that was named in a foreign tongue.

But yeah, the UK brand guidelines for Skoda have changed at some point in the last few years to use the 'correct' pronunciation and the original spelling - presumably as they see themselves as a slightly more upmarket these days and the accent is possibly seen as 'exotic'.

I'm sure I've wheeled this dull fact out before as well, but in Slovakian (I'm unsure about Czech) the word śkoda has a meaning similar to the phrase 'it's a pity/that's a shame' which I find quite fitting.

Half grin half grump....

"New" car has gone spectacularly wrong and I haven't even had it a month and it's not worth repairing so off you pop.

So I've just agreed to buy another "new" car this weekend but this one will be cheaper and better for me in pretty much every way, and it has had more thumbs up from the family with a sweet sweet 5 star NCAP rating, alls well that ends well I suppose.

Out of Office on, laptop closed and off until 3rd January. I'd booked 2nd off but the company has given us a complimentary day off so start the year with full entitlement. 😎

Question for pedants:

What is your preferred pronunciation of Dacia?

I've always known it to be "Dat-cha"

Others say "day-see-ya"

But I booked one in for MOT the other week and the chap at the test station said "darr-see-ya" !?

Discuss :)

IIRC the TV ad pronounced it Dat-cha.

Yes, as in “ Is Dat-cha Duster?”

Me and t'missus say 'day-see-ah'
Sprog who owned two (and thus has has exposure to Main Dealers aka Vospers) uses that much posher sounding variant 'Dat-cha'

(Mind you if Joanna Lumley did that for me......)

My mrs pronounces it ‘dat-see-yuh’ but I’ve no idea if that would be the same in Romania.

I pronounce it Dat-cha when referring to my 1310 or my friends Duster but tend to say Day-seer if it's a Sandero.  The one at work is universally known as the Dogger.
