What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

They are good for over 80mph as standard, I know as I was more than a little concerned when a mate showed me on his first day of owning it - he had only ridden motorbikes before he bought a snot green one.

After 6 weeks ownership the SL is returning an average of 27mpg. While that might not sound exactly frugal, it's a lot better than the 17 I was getting from the Murano

Grin today was finding out that a colleague used to run around in the prototype K-series engined Polonez as a personal hack when he worked at Longbridge.

Back in the day, I remember having a sly shufty round that. Seeing it parked up at the back of the Longbridge flightshed

Now that could be s good compromise if you wanted to keep your two seater but had children, you'd never have to listen to the "are we nearly there"

Pillock from here, not only doing me a mega good deal with a camera, but also for having to endure countless stupid questions. Cheers, Chris, you're a gent.

Not a problem at all, it was great to meet you! Hope the camera serves you well, you can ask me anything you like - plenty of info online, all you really need to know for a Canon is that the Tv (Time Variable) setting for changing the shutter speed is what Nikon, Pentax and every other camera maker calls the S (Speed) mode. Av (Canon) and A (everyone else) are the same, so you should be able to follow guides. And the green Auto+ mode will save your arse when you've messed with the settings :)

Best bit of advice a photographist gave me when I started on a DSLR is take the same photo loads of times on different settings, and compare. So find a waterfall or summat, set it to Tv, and take the same photo on different speeds to see the effect. Same with Aperture (Av) etc. You'll see when it starts to blur or get too dark.

Anyway, crack open a photo thread on the Open side if you want, I'm sure there's a few folk willing to share photos and how they took them.

I'm shocked to say the Scenic isn't as grim as I imagined.

Apart from the TRIMZ, they're even more hideous than my worst nightmares.

My little boy is coming to see me this weekend. I thought it was next month but he got the dates wrong - he's a twat, it runs in the family!

Also his Skyline is off the road as it has run out of tax and MOT as he forgot.... again, He did the same last year! So he's threatening to come down in his MX5 which he has just turbo'd and runs like shit below 4000 rpm at the mo'. I suggested a hire car, he suggested a  car from work... we shall see.

Following on from my housebreaking..... My wife's gone to work with her key and I can't find the spare so the solution is to leave it unlocked all day

Honda in nice reliable car shocker.

Red Honda has been ignored for a month or so whilst I played with Sera, Volvo(s) Clio and Espace. I had decided to use it this weekend so shuffled cars this morning to get it out. After standing for a few weeks it only starts first turn of the key doesn't it. Add to that the brakes weren't stuck and it's got a full tank of pez, yay!

I drove it to work a bit faster than I should and am now wondering why I bother with any other cars. Bloody Honda, and to think, after buying it I wasn't convinced I liked it and it was going to stay.

I really should do something with blue Honda ... fix/use that is, not sell ;)

That's a beauty of car, my mate's got one with a 3.5 engine or something, and they're just stunning things. A couple of lads at work have 911s and what not, but I honestly reckon the SL is a better looking motor.

Had someone telling me/asking me about the old car and the new car te other day. They meant 'old' as in many years and 'new' as in not many years. Old being the Bentley and new being the Mazda.

I took great delight in their look of disbelief when I informed them the Bentley is actually newer!

By this sites standards (always both high and right :)  ) both of them are 'moderns' yet so many people think the Bentley is really old.

Note, I'm not actually sure that the dollop is newer than the MX5 but they are about the same age/year so near enough when the need arises to annoy people :)

Under the "original" cute 13" trims, the Cavcraft 106 TUD3 has a full set of original Graduate centre caps on those early type rims. They look almost like banded steels to me.

Ever since I have had the red PT the radio has been crap, only picking up a station if the signal is really strong and spending long periods just shushing at me. As the other PT has a really good radio I knew something was wrong... Today was the day I had had enough of it and decided I was going to fix it. The reason I haven't done it yet is because the aerial lead seems to be tied into the loom and snakes its way along the back of the dash through a grommet and behind the wing splash guard to the aerial. A right pita to change, so first I took the radio out and the aerial lead was really stiff to remove from the radio, looking down the hole I could see that the tiny central wire that sticks out of the connection was all bent. so using a couple of tiny screwdrivers I straightened it out so it would go in the aerial lead hole rather than being squashed down the side and reconnected everything... result it all now works perfectly... doubly satisfying as I have about 300 miles to cover over the weekend...

It's got bugger all to do with cars, but I've just been watching this little fella!

Isn't it cute!

The little cub was milling around in the woods behind our house, then the two parents arrived. Just been watching them all running around playing. It's nice to see wildlife doing what it does like this.

Also got one of those bird houses with a small camera inside it, a pair of blue tits have been making a nest in it and now there's some eggs!

on the way home this evening i saw atriumph acclaim, a proper Scab 900 floppy top, and a Hispano Suiza all running wild and free on the M62.

Found a fledgling collared dove that we thought was dead in the garden, my wife picked it up and it was ok apart from a small wound to the wing (one of our cats had that 'don't look at me' face on). Got in contact with a lovely lady at Burton wildlife rescue and less than an hour later it was safe and sound - it was very chilled out in the car, I had visions of it trying to escape and flying around the car. She thought it would be OK as only a very minor injury :-)

Some of you may remember my grump on Sunday when this happened

Inflicted by thispost-17414-0-92655800-1463173252_thumb.jpeg

Anyway, as expected the Council failed my (4 monthly £196) licensing inspection because of the dent.

But, my mate Rich ,the best body and paint man in Milton Keynes , juggled his workload to fit it in yesterday, and Viola!

post-17414-0-46441100-1463173526_thumb.jpeg

Perfect repair, 36 hours and only £170, Council Licensing officer waited at the yard for 10 minutes after closing ,for me to have a quick look and issue the certificate and plate, which is unheard of.

Note in this picture of the overflow parking area for the 4 door saloon element of the fleet, the colour match looks a bit iffy, I think it's just the other panels are dirty.

Ace. I've always wanted to rig up some sort of nest surveillance and have my own Smartprice Springwatch. Do you have a monitor in the house for live Titwatch or does it record on to some external memory thingummy?

It came as a kit with the wooden bird house, camera unit and a long length of cable. The bird house has a window cut through one side with a opaque perspex cover over it to let light in but keep weather out. The camera sits up inside the roof of the bird house and just aims down covering the entrance and nest area.

It's screwed onto a sheltered wall of our house and the cable simply plugs into the camera, runs down the wall into the building and plugs into one of the spare plugs on the back of the TV. When you want to watch it just change the TV from the SKY input to the external input and that's it!

We had it last year too but the birds began making the nest, we watched the pair pick up bits of moss and twigs etc from the garden then fly up to the the bird house. You can then see the bird appear on the TV and start building it's nest. For some reason though last year they got half way into the build and abandoned it. This year it's worked perfectly.

We've encouraged them to come to the garden with bird feeders and little piles of straw and that lining stuff you put into hanging baskets, they like that sort of stuff as it's easy to pull lumps off to build a nest out of.

Our one is similar to this https://www.amazon.co.uk/Gardman-A02049-Camera-Nest-Box/dp/B001F3CW8Y/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1463219465&sr=8-2&keywords=bird+house+camera

You can get wireless ones now too.
