If it's like Hijets, the centre roller bearing can fail. Probably a generic one, may have number stamped on it.

The roller seems fine, just user error on my part, the roller has some up and down movement in it that I hadn't realised and I couldn't line the trim back up with the roller, I opened the door a bit more to help align it and the top roller came out causing a panic as I thought the door was going to hit the deck!

It was a lovely sunny weekend so some fettling occurred, although not as much as I would have liked as I was feeling a bit rubbish yesterday.  First job was to slap some white paint on the worst of the rusty bits on the Renault 4, which I'd rust treated last week.  It's a really rubbish job using a brush and Lidl white metal paint, but it looks better than it did and it's always going to be a scruffy car anyway.  I went out it in this morning and got caught in the middle of a load of old Yank hot rods out for a run, which was interesting.  Also got stuck in the outside lane of the A47 when some senile old twat in a HR-V decided to put his foot down while I was overtaking him - I had to push the poor old 4 up to about 75 and it sounded like it was about to put a rod through the block.

This afternoon I treated the 75 to a transmission fluid change - only a partial one though as I really couldn't be arsed with trying to drain the torque converter.  I got three and a bit litres out, and replaced it with exactly the same quantity of fresh fluid - I have no idea when it was last changed (if it ever has been) but it still had a bit of a red hue to it, didn't smell burnt and there weren't any metal particles floating around so I don't think it can have been too bad.  I took the car for a quick drive and didn't notice any immediate difference in shift quality, but I will give it a longer run at some point and see if it's any quicker to kick down now.

I made a start on fitting the replacement rear strut to the MG - got all the nuts and bolts loosened off and the anti-roll bar disconnected, so it should now be the 30-minute job it would in theory have been in the first place if rust wasn't a thing.  I'll hopefully get round to finishing the job one evening this week.

Then I ran the Renault 6 up to my welding mate's for him to have another look at now that the extent of the grot was a bit more apparent.  He told me which bits of floorpan to slice out, which was easily done with my shiny new Parkside grinder.  Then weldage occurred.

There's still a lot more to do, but at least it now has a floor which is actually joined on to the inner sill, which is a definite improvement.  I've left the car up there and cycled the 12 miles home - I don't really want to be driving it too much until it's finished.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who buys a shiny classic and find out it's not after a few judicial prods!

If you enjoyed doing that with the P5, there is always my Dolomite Sprint that needs finishing 😁

I've not touched or done anything on it for over a year. It's going up to storage and stashed away for a while. Frees up garage room for my BGT/Spitfire to be rotated around with storage and I need to get my MG Midget finished.

Life is too damn busy.

Didn't know you had a Spitfire either, I really need to catch up on some of the threads this weekend.

I've found my mojo again past couple of weeks after going through a bit of mad depression plus the new meds they've got me on for epilepsy are like speed 🤣

V50 sold to a couple of Bulgarian chaps.

I was a little put off the whole idea when, on test drive, the buyer proceeded to hammer down the cul de sac at what felt like 80 and then stood on the brakes (the pedal is a little long since I replaced the rear discs and pads).

I think he might need a new back seat now... 💩

Another request today for a 2cv for a wedding as the phone rang just as I was walking through the door.
addlestone to lyne and on to valley end. If anyone knows of a white (ish) 2cv available on the 8th July let me know please.  Mine is ok and the mother’s choice but not the brides!

A serious lack of space for my leg to operate the brake pedal gave me all the excuse I needed to fit one of my favourite wheels of all time.

Which Porker is that off? I have been looking for a replacement wheel for ours as the rubber has come away at the top.

944, but 924, 968 will also work I did have to space out the horn contact ring 6mm using motherboard spacers and extend the main shaft spacer 6mm by cutting a second one down, but it's the work of 10minites or so. If you have a non assisted van I wouldn't recommend it as the wheel is a lot smaller, but it's no problem on a PAS van.

I bought a slightly rough looking brown one and dyed it black to save a few quid which was easy with a sponge and some furniture clinic dye.

Been struggling to get to the bottom of why the aircon in the Vectra wasn't working, new condensor fitted a couple of months ago as the old one had a big hole in it - had it regased and it pressured up fine but the compressor wouldn't kick in. Fault code showing for AC relay, popped a new one in and still the same, the compressor clutch would kick in if you shorted it so it seemed like a wiring problem. I'm crap with wiring so got a local auto-electrician who specialises in aircon faults to have a look. Took him 15 minutes to fix it, wiring from the ecu to ac relay was faulty, so he replaced it and the aircon is freezing cold and working again - happy days!

Never used the young lad before but he seemed to know his stuff, pulled up a wiring diagram of the system on his laptop and sorted the fault in minutes, for £70 including coming out to us I'm well happy with that - happy to pass the guys number on if anybody has any aircon faults in the Derby area.

I had a phone call last week from the previous owner of my Dolomite, his brother was interested in seeing if I'd be willing to sell him back his dad's old car... Well I do need to sell a car as I'm short on space but I wasn't in any rush to sell the Dolomite though so I had a think about it.

This evening the brother rang me saying he saw it last week at a toy fair and had fallen in love with it again and made me a fair offer on it so I said yes, bit sad as the car is absolutely immaculate and I doubt I'll find another like it but it feels like the right thing to do, I think...

To continue the Dolomite theme, I sanded down the filler work I started and threw some paint on to prevent the bare metal from rusting over.

Tomorrow it's off to storage for a bit and allow me to get some headspace on my other cars. I think I've nearly done as many miles with it on a transporter than when I drove it home from buying it!

I appear to have forgotten to take any photos apart from that one...
I'll do some more tomorrow. That said it'll only so you can admire/laugh at my appalling paint skills and the paint runs.

It's only a temporary covering as it'll need more filler work and finish welding up the bottom of the arch. Good enough for now though.

I need some mojo topping up! Probably do need to see the docs about sorting some on going stuff out but such a pia to get an appointment nowadays.

Spitfire is recent - bought it from N Dentressangle on here. Runner and driver, so not any real excitement on it. Before that was a Rover P4 110 that I had just over a month - now also owned on here by Zelandeth.
