MOT pass for the ex- @Bobthebeard MX5 today.   My joy was short lived though because I cant tax online as the system is not recognising my 11 digit number and i cant tax at the post office as I sent the logbook off to DVLA just before the current unpleasantness.

Does ANPR cover Aberdeenshire? We may be about to find out...

No, please go ahead and see him. I still think I should have have a few of these things in reserve, 'cos you never know when it's going to fail again.

Or maybe get some refurbished and sell on?

They’re very good at refunding. I think they’ve even stopped sending cheques now! Unless you’re desperate for the £23 it’s best to let them take it and return it.

That is an idea....

I'm staring at the Corsa at the front garden.

Every time I go to pick up the phone to the garage, something else comes up, usually the Mini.

I'm starting to think that I'm never really going to get the chance to get it welded and back on the road like it deserves. Only the rusty strut tops are stopping it being driven. I have 2 mint complete tops to go on as well although I think the originals can be repaired.

It's a willing wee bugger too, started right up after 5 months and ran fine.

I've had a fair bit of interest in it over the years but mainly from folk that would do a red top conversion and then break it when they get bored after 3 months.

I'd happily see it go to someone who would improve it sensibly, ie weld it and then just drive and enjoy but those types are rare.

I guess I'll just fire it back in the garage once my shelves are built, but it deserves better.

I'm quite sure I've seen a couple of these chocolate block terminal connectors in the CX's engine bay....

Just opening a online account just for taxing purposes

If I'd got to look after all those cars in your signature I'd get some admin staff in! 5 gives me a headache, I would have to take my shoes and socks off to add up all your motors!

Just noticed some have left the fold.....

This.  When the DD system first started I used to cancel them, but don't bother anymore so I don't get a marker against me.  Thing with that is you get loads of dormant ones in your list of direct debits, or I have anyway.  Can make for interesting reading i.e. reminds you how many cars you've had/sold.

I got a V5 back a couple of weeks ago following the Capri tax class change. Only had it for a week before it was back off to them for an address change, see how long that takes. That'll be 4 V5s the car has had in the one year.

Anyway, once they dealt with the V5 the cheque arrived a day or two later, so not too bad especially in the current circumstances.

My new beige Rover was chucked in for mot this morning and passed :-) just two advisories for tyres, which I knew about. The emissions were apparently better than most new cars they get in.Gor a quote for doing the cambelt and pump, might have to wait a bit till I can save up for it mind

Little bit of rust near a front suspension mount, but I think it's mostly cosmetic, should last a fair while before needing a patch.

Great result with the Rover. I'm bidding on a 25 on a certain e of bay at the moment, I must be bloody mad though as it has no mot and doesn't currently start, oh and its in Worthing. There's still over 5 days to go on the auction though and I'm expecting to get outbid.

Nowt wrong with chocolate block connectors.  It's the cluster of ring terminals apparently floating in mid-air I'd be more concerned about, even if it is an earth.  That and the random cut wires.

Just seen this on Facebook, might be of interest to Rover and MG botherers.

Some of you will be relieved/surprised to see this, but I've bought A MANUAL.

And what better than a rather bargainous looking 205 D Turbo?

I'm going to mask up and get a train to it some time this week.

I had that in my watch-list and had a bid earlier in the week @Ghosty. Looked mis-advertised as I think it's a proper D-Turbo, and they seem to be going for more money. Sounded like the seller had the needed parts for it too.

Dibs when you sell.

That's a dangerous thing to say to someone on here  they might take you up on it sooner than you expected. Very happy doing business

Marvellous.

We may have to meet up so I can coo over the picnic tables, when meeting up is a thing again. If you still have it by then.

You can fit four human beings in an XJ-S, it just takes a while and some flexibility to get in/out of the back.

CX news from Garage Dubois-Loizou: the top of the engine is now dismantled and they are well into the guts of it.

The oil cooler does need replacing, but nobody has one in stock, not even CX-Basis - they've checked. Looks like an e-mail or call to Stan Platts in the remote hope that he might have the right one lying around somewhere. If no joy, they will improvise one from another car and modify it to fit. Not sure how that's going to work.

The camshaft will also be checked to see whether it was really bent, or whether the pulley on the end was mounted off-centre.

Water-oil coolers can be got from EJ Bowman in Brum.

Having read the rest of the saga what about one of these for a Xsara? It looks a lot thinner than the Blingo one.

Thanks, I have three correct 58/60mm oil coolers now headed this way, with the possibility of more. Apparently the ones made in stainless steel are less prone to internal corrosion so, if any of the trio are stainless, that's the one that will be fitted.

165 yoyos for a used one is an utter piss-take; you could probably take the shagged one to a S/S fabricator and get one made for a similar amount.

It is a total piss-take.

One of the three might go to a fabricator to see if new ones can be made, as you suggest.
