reb
Rust removal done* Need to find a more precise wire wheel to get at the bits at the top of the bracket shell, but that went far better than expected. I'm going to cover it in some alloy wheel lacquer I have lying around because the owner likes the "lived in" look. Fine by me. Makes me thankful for always having had Reynolds stainless frames, none of this nonsense to deal with. Absolutely not worth it from any sane man's perspective, but that's why I'm here. chodweaver, Ghosty, Cord Fourteener and 2 others
Cord Fourteener
Breaking news! I found a complete set of gives for my BMW E46 estate! At long friggin last. eBay of course. And there's a chance, what with lock-down rules, I can make the time to fit then myself. And I ordered two flowering currant bushes, I'm tempted to order 4 more blackthorns from the woodland trust. I've had a good day ? Edit: I meant to say hinges but I was too excited to proof read... Phone typo. Sorry ? Edited April 5, 2020 by Tim_E

Tadhg Tiogar
*heavy sigh* - battery recharge still in progress. 27 minutes ago, Timewaster said: I always wanted a Raleigh Equipe! When I had made enough paper round money I went to buy one, but a Peugeot Elan caught my eye instead. I had a Peugeot Talisman for many years, fitted with a trad Iku speedometer running dynamo-style off the tyre wall (none of this digital thing!), replacing a junior Peugeot 5-speed racing bike. Wouldn't ride any other make, not after an early encounter with a Raleigh Arena that didn't feel right. The Talisman was criminally underused after I passed my driving test in 1989. Sold it on eBay in the mid-2000s. Christine

Mat.T
As I have no access to any of my interesting cars due to the lock down I've been tackling jobs on the boring moderns. Finally, got round to doing the cam belt and water pump on my wifes Peugeot 308. Car has done 76k and coming up to 11 years old, Peugeot say 96k for a belt change or 10 years. The belt was just starting to crack and the water pump was showing signs of a slight weep. Also gave it an oil and filter change. Cam belt isnt to bad to do there is enough room to access things once I'd removed a large pile of plastic from the car Shirley Knott, TooManyPeopleMovers, egg and 4 others

HillmanImp
*SHOCK NEWS**HOLD THE PRESS* H. IMP DOES ACTUAL CAR WORK. I know, mental, yeah! People probably forget I used to sometimes do stuff to my cars (quite often wrongly as people on these pages often pointed out) and I'm not just here to shitpost. The 944 has had rusty wings since before I got it. Obviously it was going to be the first thing I did when I got the car. So here we are 15 months later and they're still not done. If anyone remembers I have tried to buy proper repair panels but they were fucking shite so I sent them back. So today I decided to try and sort one of the shitty wings. Didn't start well with me breaking the side repeater trying to get to the bolts down the door frame. However after an hour or so the wing was off. Helpfully the awkward one to get to next to the light wasn't there. Reckon thats a bumper off job so hell, thats fine with me. Sadly things didn't get better after breaking the indicator. The wing was pretty rotten. This is how much I had to cut out. Was at it for a few hours, including beer breaks. Until this happened. Will try and sort it tomorrow but probably need a new liner. It had been a little temperamental for a few minutes before but went full on bollocked in no time, so I may be able to blag it for a bit. I've no idea if Machine Mart are open, I'll check in the morning unless anyone else knows? Sure theres an emergency plastic liner somewhere in the garage though, will look. It was already getting late though so I sacked it off for the day. Wing currently looks like this. Its a well fucking awkward bit of metal. Lots of curves and angles. I reckon the chances of it being the right size afterwards are pretty much zero. I was constantly measuring the wing on the other side but its equally as fucked so I was guessing where the end of what I was measuring was. Hopefully it will be close enough though. It can be metal and filler, thats fine. Will probably still be better than the £230 or whatever it was I'd paid for those other repair panels. wuvvum, paulplom, Cavcraft and 13 others

Amishtat
Took advantage of the weather to get the 164 out into the light now I'd got a reasonable set of tyres and a fresh battery for it. With that done I tried a circuit of the village, 3 miles and my first actual drive in it. Having been idling fine on the driveway, of course it ran like a horse's arse as soon as I reached the halfway point and spewed out of the overflow once I got home. Topped it up once it had cooled down and put it back in the shed for now. Photo definitely flatters the old thing. I've recently noticed more rot on the front inner wing that I'd thought, which isn't what I'd hoped for. I've welded twice in my life, once as a lesson and then once trying to save my touring bicycle half way across France (in Dijon, probably half way between Brighton and Milan?). I was pretty terrible but I have become curious about trying again. Cavcraft, Stevebrookman and HillmanImp
wuvvum
I have been half thinking about getting another welder since my last one packed up through lack of use. I've welded in anger twice in my life - once to weld a side stand onto the Spacy, and once to weld the Innocenti's outer door skin back onto the frame - both are still holding up several years later, so either I'm not completely shit at it or it was complete beginner's luck. I'm going to have plenty of time to practice for the foreseeable though... Stevebrookman, Cavcraft and Split_Pin
wuvvum
Not got much fettling done this weekend, for obvious reasons, but as it was a fairly warm day I did fire up various members of the fleet to test the aircon - this is the first time in a long while that it's been warm enough for A/C to really be noticeable. The only two cars where pressing the A/C button made any discernible difference were the Sonata and the Mondeo. The Sonata's aircon is brilliant, proper ice cold. Shame the rest of the car is fucked. The Mondeo's isn't quite as good but it still has a noticeable cooling effect. The V70's and the Rover 45's made no difference whatsoever. They could just need a regas m8 (like the CX) or they could be knackered - I have no idea. I was also reminded that once we're allowed out to play again I need to have another attempt at doing the aircon belt on the 75 - not a job I'm relishing. I drove the Tempra to Tesco and decided to risk opening the sunroof. Fortunately it works fine. Also for the first time since I've owned it I didn't get any fanbelt squeal at all - maybe the warmer weather has made it SFTU. The power steering is still losing fluid at a rate of knots though - I've ordered a bottle of Lucas leak fix stuff, one of the few snake oils which actually seems to work, so I'm hopeful that'll sort it.
