  1. Please forgive me if this is a repeat but hopefully it's not. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/749490416992194/
  2. Liked for the progress, not the financial hobbling! Keep the faith DV, your efforts to keep this car making history are inspiring.

  5. Owing to the w140’s arrival, my s210 has had a fairly relaxed time of late, it’s still getting used but mainly when the roads are dry. So, practically never then! I have managed to achieve a full (picture free obviously...) service of it though, and to replace the fractured expansion tank: You can just about see the pink residue of crack evident in this picture. Crack free tank installed, nice. All was confirmed as grand following an extended test drive to Brighton. I truly love this car, comfortable, capable, cool as you like and capable of both irresponsibility and economy, RATED!
  6. Thanks, I’m fairly sure the ashtray trim was the hardest job yet, not only tightening the screw that holds it on to the ashtray module but achieving the sort of even shutlines that a car of this calibre deserves... Ahem!
  7. Whilst it might not look like it, this trip odometer reading indicates a significant mille-stone, 1048.1 miles achieved in my first month aboard the ex @HMC w140. It has been a 1st klasse experience for me, never have I enjoyed so much leg room in a car (After a liberal dose of contact cleaner was applied to the electric seat controls!). I have been busy attending to some of the car’s faults but not in photographing all of the processes... The viscous fan coupling and the thermostat were changed promptly which was an improvement but not the complete solution. The radiator didn’t feel like it was getting evenly hot, suggesting impeded flow so citric acid was introduced to the coolant and left to work it’s magic. After a week in the system, the radiator was now warming evenly so the citric-coolant-cocktail was drained and the system flushed and refilled. The cause of the radiator clogging was diagnosed as a leaky transmission oil cooler, which passes through the radiator, so bypassing it was the preferred/cost effective option. Since the bypass, radiator clogging has reduced wholesale and transmission expiration has yet to manifest. A filter and oil change are in the immediate future of the gearbox as a reward for its compliance. Not all of the improvements* have been mechanical ones, the o/s/r door had two holes drilled in it and it’s handle had been forced, these issues were resolved with silicon, a 2p piece and a 10€ cent. The reinstatement of the wooden trim from the front of the ashtray was not as easy as I assumed but with an assistant, anything is possible... Also on the list of repairs was to put an end to the petrol smell that would infrequently overwhelm the cabin, the seals around the fuel gauge sender were found to be harder than Fedor Emelianenko, swapping those for some freshies banished the stink. And that is where we are up to in the story so far, tune in some other time folks.
  8. Cheers, there won’t be much to report from me about them though as it seems they’ve already found a new home and I think there’s more chance of a free Palestine than of old computers or lightbulbs figuring in their future.
  9. Ta very much. I haven’t got to worry about storing them for a while as the person I bought them from has allowed me to keep them in situ, just trying to figure out whether to put one on the road for a while, sell them on or invest in a top hat...
  10. What do you do when you receive news that the entire department you work in will be made redundant in the forthcoming months? Saving these from a potential ovalling has lifted the spirits (no pun intended), now what to do with them?
  11. Good job you posted this, I hadn’t realised today was my brother’s 8th birthday again.
  12. It really did look several million Deutschmarks rolling past me, I think you sold it to the right fellow. As for the 140, it has already exceeded my enjoyment expectations, it’s usable without being precious about and yet it makes me feel like I’m aboard something special. 70s Fords and w210 Mercedes aren’t an obvious combination of desires but I rate them, it is encouraging to know there’s a couple more on here that feel the same too.
  13. As seen in the news 24 thread, it was I that relieved @HMC of his W140 and goddamn am I glad I did. The collection was a fair test of any car (340ish miles from there to here) but for an ageing behemoth with a known cooling fan deficiency and all the traffic woe associated with Glastonbury weekend, it could have gone bandy. There was no need to get the fear though, it behaved impeccably, the a/c temperature sensor in the thermostat housing was disconnected and permanent auxiliary fans were activated, cool. ish. All that was left to do was point it in the direction of home and bask in the ambiance for 7.5 hours. Highlights of the trip back were being overtaken by the ex @NorfolkNWeigh R reg E240 on the M5 and being waved at by several auld boys in large modern Mercs. Now back in the land of sugar beet, plans are to fix the viscous fan and the transmission rear oil seal, attend to the cosmetic challenges and enjoy my time aboard it. In the words of Buddy Holly, Oh DOY!

  15. I’m chuffed that this is still treating you right, there’s just something about it that is so effortlessly cool, Vive the vessel.

  18. After the departure of the GXL I was hoping to find a low-temperature groove to settle into vehicularly. Yeah right... en root home from Strawberry fair, a juvenile rabbit did amble out onto the A14 & into my n/s foglight. An horrific experience for all parties involved, if you look really closely you can just about make out a tuft of fluff (sounds like a fair review of my hairline) caught in the now freshly cracked bumper, no other sign of rabbit or foglight were detected. A replacement light has been reserved from the stocks of a racer friend, choice. In other news, the rear discs and pads of Mrs Semi’s Corolla were replaced, marvellous!

  20. Yesterday was the last day that the GXL was in my possession, it was bought by a right nice fella and will be going to live with his other Mk3 Cortina, a Mk4 Cortina and a Mk1 Capri. Can’t say that I am not feeling a little bit sad about it’s departure (evident from the lack of final photo...) but I won’t be without a road going Mk3 for long.
