But I guess @wuvvum probably has owned one of these too.

Nope.  Nearest I've owned was this.

Subaru 700 van.  Same basic underpinnings I think, but only 2wd and an even smaller engine stuffed behind the back bumper.

Has anyone had an Alfa Romeo Alfa 6? Or an Arna?

I went to a bombsite used car lot in Hull in about 1997 with the intention of getting a lovely* metallic green Arna for about £250 but decided to keep my Mk2 Escort instead

I think @Mine's a Leganza! might be able to help you here.  I drove one when they were launched, but that was 25 years ago.  It seemed perfectly acceptable when it was new.

I had my Leganza for 17 years and was reluctant to part with it as it had been in the family longer than the wife! It never answered back and never disagreed with my choice of music. I sold it on here via @rob88h and @erebus was  I hope very satisified winning it.

@Crackers works at RR, he may have had a ride in one at least.

Nope!

considering my Dad only had 4 cars when I was growing up (longest of which lasted 4 years, the shortest serving was just a fortnight) , unusually two of them were quite rare beasts

and Mazda Montrose (the one he kept a fortnight)

Mazda Montrose. I bet no-one on here has owned one.

Edit: @wesacosa posted a Montrose at the same time... What are the chances of that?!

I have purchased this Toyota Avanza for use in the Philippines. The jury is still out.

I think there will be someone here who has driven a Leyland EA when they were still new/new ish. I don't know for sure, but they built loads, as you say

That'll be me then. I worked as a diesel fitter for a Leyland truck and bus dealer in 1981 and we used to get those and FG's in for service etc .

well that was a spooky posting coincidence

I seem to remember someone on here bought a Monrose Coupe a couple of years ago but can't remember who

@Alan_Green The clue is the blue coupe in his avatar. Although in fairness to @Dick Longbridgei doubt it’s a TWR Turbo.

Re forgettable nineties and noughties Fiats, I rented a Marea estate once and it was rather good. Only just remembered that now it's come up!

Vauxhall Albany was a tarted up Midi, wasn't it? Never driven an Albany, but I've done mega miles in Midis.

I'd completely forgotten until I read that but I think I rode in one being used as a taxi in Newquay about Y2k.  It was definitely a Midi with seats, couldn't say for certain what it said on the back.

I had a Leganza for a while and since it's not been mentioned I also hired a Sao Penza as a holiday runabout on Cyprus many years ago. I remember nothing about the Penza other than I didn't manage to break it despite trying quite hard..

Anyone here had a Perodua Kembara?  My friend in Paphos has/had them on his hire fleet, and I think I got to drive all three on various occasions.  He preferred them over the Daihatsu Terios which shared the body.

I think (from memory) there was a Midi minibus available, but it was on the utilitarian side, and the Albany was pitched into the space the Transit Tourneo would come to dominate. Nicer seats, actual soundproofing and carpets, etc. More likely to be taxi material I'd think.

Pretty sure LDV tried it too, but that was an even bigger turkey than the Albany.

EDIT

I'd totally forgotten about that one. I reckon it was one of the cleanest examples remaining - I remember the ad photos and mot history was surprisingly good considering it's an early 80s Mazda.

I remember @antony denman sold it a couple of years back - I wonder what happened to it?

there definitely was a Midi minibus as I went to Flamingo land in one when I was in the cubs in about 1987

Daewoo Tacuma would have been a good contendor but I hold my hands up for one of those.. unless someone else has seriously owned/driven one in Daewoo flavour? :)

Sorry, no, only the Chevrolet, which went to @Bobthebeard but wasn't the only one here anyway.

Anyone had a Hyundai Lantra?

I've had an Elantra, does that count?

I've also driven a Daewoo Tacuma, although that wasn't mine.

Mazda Cosmo?

I'm really clutching at straws now by going for stuff that was fairly rare in its own market and not available here

Have we had a Perodua Kelisa on here? I have vague recollections of a Kenari and possibly even a Nippa, but not a Kelisa.

I think @sparky had the Daihatsu equivalent.

if I am allowed to say LOL, dont think anyone on here has ever owned or driven an AC Acedes or a Tippen Delta :)

(and there was recently an Acedes for sale, in fact might still be, has been for sale for a good year almost, poor chap gets all sorts of interest which then immediately all dies when they hear its not a Model 70...)

I should have bought one that was on eBay for 3500 euros years ago. I’d absolutely would nowadays.

what about a Eunos 300/Mazda Persona? Another obscure jdm special I’d instantly buy, there’s at least one in the uk.

And yes, an Isuzu Gemini made it over to the uk, even in super rare Irmscher spec.

Drove one for a couple of days as a pool car. Automatic 1.8 I think. Would have been mid 90s. Was ok as “an car” with quite a high spec compared to the usual. Aunt had one in Ireland, rotted out pretty quick.

Proton Perdana.

There were a handful of official imports. Last I saw for sale was in Northern Ireland during COVID from memory.

Likewise the Proton Preve, but I'm not sure any of those escaped Proton UK despite several being registered.
