Well that's less than ideal.

Went out in the Mondeo earlier and when I got back I noticed a substantial carbuncle in the nearside front sidewall.  So it's booked into the local tyre place on Friday to have a shiny new ditchfinder fitted, and I am once again astounded by my ability to lose money even on cars that are apparently ridiculously cheap to buy.

A budget tyre!!!!!! Are you mad! 😂

And my fucking cat has punctured the paddling pool & pissed in it.

I can top this.

My eldest had a baby tooth come out. It fell on the carpet.

We didn't get chance to recover it for the tooth fairy because our king charles ate it.

A sad sign of the austerity we are living under.

Does everyone get a BMW Mini/Fiat 500/Ford Fiesta with a personalised number plate for their 17th birthday these days?

My first car was my mum's old Metro, and I had to pay her for it and help her find a replacement.  If I'd asked for a car or anything to do with one for my 17th I'd have been told to fuck off and stop acting spoilt.

Posted

My sister offered her 17yo daughter her 58 plate Note for nothing, but daughter turned her nose up at it. Sisters's reaction? She can buy her own car, then.

That reminded me - when my dad's boss's son turned 17, he thought he was going to be given his mum's car for nothing, but because he hadn't gone out and got a job, his dad decided it wasn't happening.  So I bought the car!

Might make it more bearable till you can get to a dentist.

Mr Viking is not in the UK. Personally I use  clove oil. it looks like in Norwegian it is called Nellikolje.

Daughter's cat bit through the flexi hose for the outside tap.  It was fitted before the kitchen units and only a cat or rat can get in there.  An absolute bugger to turn it off, flooded the kitchen.

Impossible to get a new flexi fitted without tearing the sink unit to bits.

FFS, schools haven't even broken up yet, and already Lidl's got all their BACK TO SCHOOL!! advertising out.

I haven't been near Tesco or any other big-box retailer for a while, but I bet they're all the same. It's not new though, I know that.

Not much annoyed me more as a kid than having this guff shouted at me by every retailer all summer long.

I often wondered how much adults would fancy it if airport departure lounges and hotels kept playing BACK TO WORK!! announcements every three minutes over the summer, and trying to flog them ties and wrist supports and paperclips at every turn.

My guess was: not much.

I did not particularly enjoy school, and the summer break was one of the few times when I had the space to do the things I wanted to do for an extended period. Read, draw, watch films, listen to records in depth, go out on my bike all day and take photographs. Develop myself in the ways the narrowness of the school curriculum didn't.

All the big signs and TV ads shouting 'BACK TO SCHOOL!!' at seemingly every turn made it seem like there was no point doing anything as soon I'd be BACK TO SCHOOL!! It was like a cloud hanging over me the whole time, reminding me that bullying and homework and trying to keep up with the nonsensical demands of my peers over carrying my schoolbag 'the wrong way' and wearing my blazer 'the wrong way' were about to start up again all too soon.

Depressing as fuck.

It still brings me down, clearly.

Meh.

Minor moan. Took the Navara to a main dealer for a brake squeal issue for the second time.

I'm 90% confident it's the back brakes (stops when you pull up the handbrake slightly), and told them as such, but they diagnosed it needed new front disks and pads as they were "faulty" (they looked brand new as it's only 18 months old and done 7k) and that they did me a "favour" getting them replaced under goodwill (again....it has only done 7k) 🤣

It's still squealing like fuck (it would do when it's the back brakes!) and they managed to get copper grease on my seat/arm rest and mat. They also washed it...it's got copper grease finger prints on the bonnet and front wing.

Don't know why I fucking bothered. I would have been quicker stripping the rear brakes myself to clean them up (but I didn't want to as it's still under warranty) rather than walking the hour back from and to the dealer in the pissing rain.  Meh. It's a lease anyway so sod it, they can squeal till I hand it back.

Erm yea, nah its toast..

The bit that's got toasty is just a quarter inch male crimp connector; easy and cheap to replace, the round thing it attaches to is a high temperature cut-off sensor. Any other bits that have obviously had smoke trying to escape?

Definitely but don’t say the cat caused it! Just claim for an escape of water.

Not that I could see, shall take another look. I just saw that and thought it didn't look good, or at least above my limited skill level... 😅

🙂 I'm all for people staying in their comfort zone when dealing with mains voltage, only have a go if you feel safe doing so.

Nope.  I may get around to butchering the sink unit and repairing it, one day.

Did have to put a new floorcovering in for her, pulled the ruined 'hardwood' floor up and replaced with vinyl.

There has been a vacuum cleaner over £1000 for at least 20 years.
