Tamworth: you're alright now though, I trust?  I swear, most drivers aren't even aware bikers are a thing until they hit them and let's not even get started on the drivers that think cyclists shouldn't be given any space at all when overtaking them, or that horses are completely fine to drive past at a zillion miles an hour because nothing spooks horses, right?  There's only two things horses are actually afraid of: things that move, and things that don't.

Essex is a shit show when it comes to driving. I've learned to be neither offensive or defensive when on the roads, more 'expect the worst and people will still surprise and dismay you'

Yeah some if the driving isn't great, but it isn't a patch on what goes on inside the M25. Try driving around Hounslow, Heston, Southall etc....full of absolutely piss poor driving by "communal family licence" types.

The house move saga continues.  The house my other half is currently renting and which I'd started to move my stuff into is now, presumably, being sold by the landlord so it needs to be vacated by the end of August.  Super!  That means faffing about trying to find another rental property suitable at short notice and a hit to the savings for both of us when we could do without it.

We're trying to be positive about it and hoping we can find somewhere at least with flatter off-road parking and maybe even a bit more internal space.

If he's selling it, has he found a buyer? If not he may be prepared to be flexible on the leave date.  If he has found a buyer, is the S21 legally correct? Even if it's correct you don't actually have to leave without a court order. And the wait is months.  If not correct wait until the date on it and refuse. Not a thing he can do.......

Note I am a landlord and aware of the risks of renting out a property.

Up here it's the farmers you've got to watch. I nearly went into the back of some tosser in Land Rover Defender towing a massive trailer with some kind of generator on. Just pulled out right in front of me at a roundabout when I had right of way, so i had to brake sharply to accommodate him.

Then later in the week, I witnessed a tractor, towing a trailer load of straw, pull out of a side road directly onto an NSL road into the path of oncoming traffic. 5+ cars had to slam on because of this knobhead.

Then, I got stuck behind a couple of Lycra warriors riding two abreast who refused to move over (single track road). Now fortunately, you don't see so many of these idiots up here (Essex is infested with them). But why is it always geezers I get stuck behind? I wouldn't mind so much if it was nice bouncy girly bums in Lycra I have to look at but its always bloody men. One of these twats had the words 'Stow' and 'market' printed on his cheeks as he's up on the pedals and desperately trying to go at car speed. Maybe that's where he left his sense that morning. Cockwomble.

^^^ This. I live not far from part of the Tour de France route that took place in Essex. My trusted garage is in Finchingfield, and I just know that every time I go there I will encounter some cockwombles on bikes. Must say that I am impressed with the pace some of the non- cockwombles keep.

Still, I saw something about Box Hill and cyclists the other day on TV, so now count my blessings!

Not very recent. Allegedly stolen back in March 2018, but clearly still doing the rounds. No details back then or now about identifying marks, VIN numbers, etc.?

NewPOD: I appreciate the info but honestly, we can't be doing with the faff of all that.  The landlord has been grumbling about selling the place for a while, we knew it was coming, but we should have had a house bought by now.  Because of Reasons, that hasn't happened.  The house is less than ideal anyway, it's slightly too small for both of us, there isn't enough parking, and it's not the best location.  It could take a few more years until we get a proper house of our own because of Reasons, so we'd both rather just be somewhere better and not have to faff about with sitting in a house and forcing the landlord to let us stay and all that.

Reminds me its about this time in July when that London to Southend bike ride takes place, 1000's of them riding 2, 3 or 4 abreast and literally everywhere, so you get past one pack to be greeted by another, its not really worth going out or heading that way but I usually forget.  Its either today or next Sunday. ffs was heading to Thorpe Bay later too.

Some people are truly scary, my last motorbike accident happened when a woman who looked straight at me pulled out anyway. I hit the back of her car leaving a nice helmet print on the back window. When the police asked her if she had seen me she said yes, when they asked why she had pulled out if she had seen me she apparently replied ‘I don’t know’. How can you defend against drivers like that?

I had a similar one several year ago where I saw the person look both ways, then look at me and pull out anyway; however I came off best as I was in a Range Rover and just had a small mark in the dirt on the bumper.

Some silly bint pulled straight out on me yesterday as I was on the moped thing. Even worse as I screamed at her to speed up, she actually slowed down. Lord knows how I didn't hit her car, her smug grin evaporated though when I drew level and a volley of expletives were levelled at her.

I need to weld all along the O/S inner sill on the Jag. Plus the foot well. N/S doesn't look as bad but I've not poked around yet.

Not sure if I've got it in me. Few years ago I'd be happy scrambling under a rusty old car but instead I just feel like crying. :(

I did the same repair to the Volksy/Barefoot one a few years ago but have just been staring at this for hours with occasional flurries of grinding then depression.

I know I'd forever regret it if I scrapped it but don't know what to do. I've not got the time to do it or the physical or mental strength.

Not sure if I should store it. Is it worth it? Its pretty fucked. Think I might bung it in the car park of a flat we've got in Bingley until I'm in a better place.

It's always heartbreaking when I have to drop the littlun back at his mum's, but today was worse as he suddenly went from happy and chatty, to quiet and sullen, then floods of tears and wouldn't let go. In the end I had to leave him in a crumpled heap on the doorstep with his mum consoling him.

Cried a river myself on the way home. ?

Who said this gets easier? ?

I'm crying again now, ffs

Fuse went bang on the way to the yard this morning, followed by acrid smell of burning and cloud of smoke.

Fuse easily fixed with new fuse.

Not so easily fixed is CX's HVAC blower motor, which turned out to be source of the burning. Will need a new one.....

There's a new simplified* online registration proceces here.

I've been on line all afternon.

Go to new ANTS site, can't log in, have to go France Connect first. Go there and have to set up an account. Fair enough.

Start the 4 simple steps, which involves digging out tax I'ID and social security ID which of course reduces my office to looking like a paper recycling center on a windy day.

Next was to download an app which obviously means finding more bits of paper to scan in.

Then the app wants to take a pic to compare with my passport.

Ok that seems simple.

Holds phone for a selfy, message comes up that I can't read, puts glasses on ,backgrounds not good, phone takes picture, gets another message saying take pic without glasses, try again, anothr message, put glasses back on, apparently my eyes were closed, takes picture, messaged again about glasses. Repeat sequence for half an hour....

Eventually log back into ANTS and get going up loading the necessary documents, seems to be going well, click submit and get an error message "phone us on 12456678"

Well that's not happening in France on a Sunday particularly as it's Bastille day, so spend more time googling possible why's.

Most likely is file size of documents. So I rescanned everything again in lower resolution.

I think I've cracked it. ANTS have send me a provisional document so I can legally drive the Buick now.

I think I've earned an extra beer tonight.

Simplified my arse.

I've a mate who does that on Facebook endlessly. F1, footie, cricket you name it, there's a post within minutes of the end of the race/match from him giving the game away.

He's an actual pal in real life rather than just a FB acquaintance but I know not to go near my feed if I'm waiting to watch a recording of something sporty.

Anyhow, the main reason I've come on here is that i just tried repairing the hole in the floor of the Jag and I've got nothing to weld to. :(

Think its time for car takeback unless anyone feels braver than I?

tyres

they help with directional stability, act as part of the suspension and assist with braking so fairly important then.

If I advise a tyre and chalk the deep cracks in the sidewall I don't expect to see the same chalk marks a year later. Some people....
