Several weeks off the road for a wing and a bumper!

I well remember the French onion sellers coming around on their bikes in the fifties and early sixties.

Amusing now that I have immigrated to Geordiland.

It was a clip of an old BBC program about Tyneside onion sellers from France who spoke a mishmash of French and Geordy.

I've seen other similar postings disappear but this is the first time it has happened to one of mine.

Another try

I’ve seen  Land Rovers (armed forces)  being raced at the Jim Clark rally. Even they didn’t lean that much.

Went for a long delayed eye test and ordered new specs.  At least three years since last one and spent the last year procrastinating.

Pleased to find that I comply with the new DVLA regulations on eyesight even without long distance glasses.  Got some anyway; plus one pair for intermediate distance and a pair for close work.  £240  :)

That will make 11 pair I have, some in each room and in the car.

Had today off to work cos half term, so went down the woods, and found another load of old bottles! Most are still soaking to be cleaned but weve got 2 cleaned

There was another Vaseline jar a different size but it split into 3 when we tried to clean it, might try and glue it back together in a bit for our plan with them.

I like that green one.

Antique bottle collecting is a bit of thing, there was a big bottle fair every year near where I grew up and I think there’s a few all over the country.

We dont even mean to really, I think we just found a 1940's dump and keep finding them! Something to do ...

Charlie got some seeds when we went to sainsburys earlier, I got some compost out the garden

Then using the Banbury spoon

Put some seeds (3 per jar) in them, and hopefully they'll grow and a pretty flower will come out. I glued the cracked smaller Vaseline jar up, it split into 3 (although I cocked it up a bit but it's fine). Shame as the larger one did wash up nicely

The rest are drying on the radiator, probably the warmest they've been in many decades

I haven't checked yet... If it does should I be scared? Someone else I know said it was an ink pot

Yes that's an ink pot. There was an old dump where two railway lines connected for the colliery when I was a kid (late 70's/early 80's) As well bits of unidentifiable metal, ash & clinker and leather soles with rusty nails we used to find lots of bottles. The most sought after by us were the pop bottle ones with a marble in. Random internet pic:

Most had the the tops broken off, presumably by kids as soon as the pop had been drunk.

I've still got a number of them I dug up plus a few bought at collector fairs around the same time. I doubt I would spent anymore than 20p on an bottle!

Might be worth another trip down there especially if it's keeping the kids interested.

We go there fairly frequently. Annoyingly out local thames water pumping station put itself 5ft underwater last week and their running the outlets for the 8 diesel pumps out through the woods into the little sewer stream right down the bottom, so it was busier there than I like (usually it's just us who really ever go down there)

Will take another spade next time though, we found 3 key areas where they seem to be

Charlie just took that photo of them now their all washed and dried. They all look reasonably old

I've seen a couple of Cougar Couriers delivery vans up this way recently.

I can just imagine them being driven by sexually frustrated middle aged women seducing young guys when dropping off parcels. 😂😂

I’ve never been scared by an alien, but a couple of Alans I’ve known were a bit weird.

Maybe make a film on this story line? Back in the day they were popular.
