The grumpy thread

Jut back from 9 days in Spain.

Taxi driver says you were lucky there, missed all the rain.

Get home, ceiling papers hanging off, my roof leaks, I had put a blue sheet down in the loft but it overflowed.

My builder friend* promised to do a re roof  months ago.

When I went up in the loft of my first house I discovered that it leaked along the valley where the rear extension joined. The previous owners had an ingenious system of plastic guttering slung to catch the drips and direct it back out under the eaves. So much for the survey which hadn't spotted it. I did know that the roof would need work and had a new lead valley installed when I had the rest of it fixed.

Our uncles flat roof extension currently has drain tarps hanging from it with the hoses poking out the windows. Put in 'temporarily' since last year awaiting new roof.
Look similar to this:

Just had a seriously eventful drive home.

Lorry nearly took the front of the car off cutting me up on a roundabout, I beeped and flashed to tell them I was there. They went mental! Almost forced me to stop in the middle of a road, so I had to undertake and shoot past, whilst they still flashed and beeped at me almost constantly. Fucking nut case.

Then the 309 throttle sticks open! FFS. Nearly crashed into the hedge in the car park. Hoping it's just a snagged cable.

My mate who's still living in the mid 1990s owned my VW T5 before me, and DIY fitted a fucking sunroof because he thinks they are great.

Obviously it absolutely PISSES water in every time it rains hard. Today I've got to drive 250 miles on a soaking wet seat with water pouring on my head every time I turn left.

I've got the van running in outside my unit with the heaters on full, and a big industrial fan blowing at the drivers seat to try and dry it out a bit, but it's like someone poured a bucket of water over the fucking thing.

Get a dehumidifier in there if poss, great for drying out an interior

edit - more of an overnight thing mind

I'm off to Download festival in a few minutes...

It's barely tinkling with rain at the mo.

Rules say you can take a rucksack no bigger than an A4 envelope!

So I'll have to wear all of the clothes I'm wearing and carry my chair, just while I pass security.

Then I'll put it all into the carrier bags that I have stuffed in my pockets.

And the Scirocco won't start, the ignition leads are well & truly fucked.

Long live financially illogical decisions about rubbish old cars! He's bought it back as salvage and it got dropped off at the (good, expensive) bodyshop to get fixed today.

Obviously on the way back he twatted his Avensis into a kerb and needs a new tyre. Come on dad, you're only 62.

Edit - hadn't read to the end of the thread, and this now feels a bit insensitive. Sorry for your loss DD.

Only just seen this angle, no worries and no offence taken.

Both, if the beer is in a can, the can can be used to repair exhaust

One of the main reasons for buying parts from a dealer is that they have the parts lookup system so you get the right bits.  Especially when there are a zillion different configurations of your vehicle.

Yeah...about that.

Glad I checked before I actually took it off.

It can keep squeaking for now then.  Well outside the return period for the belt too annoyingly as it was bought with a batch of (about £350 worth) of parts before the MOT last month.

8.45am.  Frantic banging on the door, and upon opening it my neighbour Helen reported:

”Someone’s just hit your car!  She tried driving off but we stopped her!”

Basically a silly mare in a totally shagged Yaris drove too close to mine and went down the side, gouging up the door and crumpling the wing.  Fucksticks.  Luckily she is insured although when I asked her for her details she was a bit reluctant.  Got them anyway and yes for once she is taxed, insured and MOT’d.

She wants me to get a quote from a body shop rather than go through insurance but I suspect a new Seat door and wing, plus labour to fit, plus spraying a metallic and blending it all in will be a very expensive little mistake to make.  Similar damage to Mrs P Fiat a few years ago was £1500 and that wasn’t a metallic finish.

Insurance will write the car off for sure.  I doubt if she is going to pay as she didn’t look as if she had the money but I don’t think it’s fair my property gets damaged by other people especially when it’s insured for that very purpose.

Prepare for ongoing insurance debacle, I can feel it in my water.....

Oh yes the good old insurance where you pay roughly the same as someone with a new car but when you come to claim as you’ve got an old car you get treated like a second class citizen.

bad news about your car but your neighbour Helen deserves a bunch of flowers for that :)

Can't you cut it down and superglue it back together?

Gave up waiting on the recovery services after 4 hours. limped the bike along for a few miles until it lunched its other coil. Pushed it another mile to a petrol station and gave up.

The mud was astonishing, despite hundreds of tons of straw spread over the grass.

My feet didn't leak even a teeny tiny bit...  We're back there again later this afternoon to watch Die Antwoord & the Slipknots

Not fit for purpose surely? As it is likely to have been recommended to you by the dealer, it should be their responsibility to sort and there is no maximum returns period.

Agree with you entirely, but given they're already "doing me a favour" by supplying me parts at all, I suspect by kicking up a fuss I'll just wind up burning what has so far been quite a useful bridge.

In case you wondered about my previous comment - their head office has decreed that their dealer network aren't allowed to provide parts for any of their commercial vehicles, instead being referred to an external company - who don't deal with non-trade customers so are as much use as a chocolate teapot to me.
