So I just won that Roadmaster on ebay. Naturally the owner is not the smartest type and already sold the car. Despite over 1000 reviews on ebay he didn't have a clue how to end the auction. I  won't be a dick about it but I don't think he is aware that winning the auction is a legally binding contract that a winning bidder can sue compensation for (not just the equivalent of the winning bid but actually the value of the car).

Had a similar story winning a Cadillac Fleetwood before. Why are most people owning these cars this way?

He managed to figure out how to make it a private listing though...

Sorry you got dicked around mate, it's gutting when you miss out on something that way. I'm sill sore about a fucker who agreed a sale on a Hilux Surf then went back on the deal because I wouldn't pay him an extra £50 after someone offered him slightly more but couldn't collect for a month. Only fucking wankers operate like that.

The wheels can get in the sea, where I would put them as I'm 100 yards from the sea.

Holy Crap! That green Cavalier is already well-travelled to end up in Stroud. I used to notice it being daily-driven in Exeter around 3 maybe 4 years ago. It was very shiny although obviously resprayed. It still had those shit alloys on it back then. It also had a removable Playstation-style suede steering wheel. And I've just noticed the clocks are wrong. Early ones like this should have yellow needle gauges, not white, which came in on B reg.

He knows. Like you, I'd decide that it's not worth the hassle and just forget it. Really, dickheads like this deserve to be sued because otherwise they just keep doing it.

I think he had an offer elsewhere for the car and wanted to see whether the auction went higher than the offer. Either that or the auction didn't go as high as he wanted.

Would genuinely like to know how the Ascona was marketed against the Cavalier - how did it actually work? Someone here will know.

I recall it as being that Opel marketing aimed at the private buyer, using the German-ness, TUV reliability, sporty sort of approach. Vauxhall was about fleets, discounts and value for money.

There was a difference in dealerships as well, for example in Cheltenham there was Haines & Strange (big, Vauxhall, fleet accounts) and Widdows (small, big on service, loyal customers, Opel - they even used an Opel van for parts). These two were about 1/4 mile apart in the centre of town. When GM withdrew Opel from UK these two dealerships coexisted for a few years as Vauxhall only.  The firm I worked for preferred to get all their Vauxhalls, (including the Cavalier they bought for me) from the ex-Opel dealership as their service was so much better than the big place.

ta, my grandad had a yellow cav like that well into the 80's, he was a value for money sort of person. Helpful insight. Is it just me or is the Ascona a lot prettier? the sad cute face that works ok on a Chevette and the Manta but doesn't do it for me with the 3 box saloon.
