Would genuinely like to know how the Ascona was marketed against the Cavalier - how did it actually work? Someone here will know.

I recall it as being that Opel marketing aimed at the private buyer, using the German-ness, TUV reliability, sporty sort of approach. Vauxhall was about fleets, discounts and value for money.

There was a difference in dealerships as well, for example in Cheltenham there was Haines & Strange (big, Vauxhall, fleet accounts) and Widdows (small, big on service, loyal customers, Opel - they even used an Opel van for parts). These two were about 1/4 mile apart in the centre of town. When GM withdrew Opel from UK these two dealerships coexisted for a few years as Vauxhall only.  The firm I worked for preferred to get all their Vauxhalls, (including the Cavalier they bought for me) from the ex-Opel dealership as their service was so much better than the big place.

ta, my grandad had a yellow cav like that well into the 80's, he was a value for money sort of person. Helpful insight. Is it just me or is the Ascona a lot prettier? the sad cute face that works ok on a Chevette and the Manta but doesn't do it for me with the 3 box saloon.

If this is as good as it looks and the advert makes it sound, it must be a brilliant buy for someone, despite the mileage.

Cheap D Series.

I'd love another one of these.  Unfortunately this one is a 10-tonner so only way I could drive it is on L plates with a qualified lorryist sat in the cab with me.

Badge engineering, Vx Cav, Opel Ascona. Different territories, but sometimes the lines got blurred

Can't you down rate them with different springs or something? If that doesn't work then just stick some chevrons on the bottom of the doors, cut the bottom half of your hair off and get some 'tree surgeons' stickers knocked up.

I mean they say they are taking the body off it so its just a chassis cab at that point, cant you then just get it down-plated to 7.5 tons? or just do an @JJ0063 and get yer lorry licence :) (bonus points if you use said 1973 D series for your actual test)

and if you find a rotten old Luton van to rob the box off the back of, to plonk onto said chassis cab, you might even have somewhere dry-ish to keep the innocenti :)

That ad is something else...

"Gemballa (Copy) GT 650"  So, it's not a real Gemballa then? The £5k price would never have tipped me off...

"New battery life time warranty"  Ok..?

"Rare body kit made for Gemballa, I have never seen another one anywhere, fully body kit was re fitted  before respray with new graphic set fitted only 4 weeks ago"  Shame about the overspray and bad wrap tho...

"Full Porsche service history"  Two Porsche stamps is a full service history? And why is there and 11 year gap between the second and third (third party) service?

"Well to be honest I do not want to sell her, but due to ill health she has to go to a new home, she is only every used for car shows and Sundays out, she is 100% perfect in all ways without any problems at all, has had all the normal upgrades, heater pipes, starter motor, oil pump, upgraded cut disks, has had the piston sleeves upgraded to Darnton steel sleeves, total engine rebuild by previous owner, has upgraded MD561 Stage 1 Hybrid Turbos that push the car in to the 650BHP, separate cold air intakeslarger injectors, new coil packs, car is always run on shell super, also has had new air bags on the front, air ride works as it should. New plugs."  If that was true and not just word salad, it would be worth more than £5k

"has a correct full carbon fibre bonnet"  If true, worth more than £5k on its own

"All tyres have 5 m plus on them"  Yes, I'm picking on him for a typo

"Gloss Stainless steel 3 inch pipes with no Cats"  So, won't pass another (legit) MOT then. I can see why there were no advisories on your last one...

"Has a box of old coil pack and bit and bobs, old Porsche carpets etc"  You want me to take your other rubbish away too?

"1 week old full qualitied cut to shape carpets with retainers"  That is one precocious child, to be a full qualitied carpet fitter at 1 week of age

"Sits a 68mph with a 29mpg, or 20mpg around town, don’t put yourself in the fun zone lol, 15mpg but worth every penny"  Yeah, nah, mate, think I'll pass
