You can put a boat on a ship but you can’t put a ship on a boat.

Exception: Submarines are boats even when they are 20 000 Tonnes.

The Americans tried it

Went to visit friends over in Saltburn-by-the-Sea for the weekend.

I thought I'd brave the drive over rather than dealing with the Trans Pennine Express. The Merc performed faultlessly and returned 26mpg, which I don't think is half bad for a big eighties 3.0 saloon. Seems the new ECU has done the trick!

My Friends moved to Saltburn about ten years ago, to escape the increasing hoards of tourists overrunning their home town of Whitby. It's also a better place to bring up little ones.

Saltburn has had a bit of a renaissance over the last decade, loads of independent shops/bars/restaurants have popped up, giving the place a really nice feel. Prices aren't insane and there are plenty of places to park.

The restored funicular looks great, and they have revamped the promenade at the bottom. Certainly would recommend a visit!

Set off back early on Sunday Morning, which meant a deserted A19/A1, mobile speed cameras everywhere, I spotted at least four on the return run. Luckily the old Benz's cruising happy spot is an indicated 76mph - which translates to a GPS figure of 71mph, so hopefully no brown envelopes to come through the post.

Would have been nicer if it wasn't raining all the time but I've done my 4th cambelt change now and the engine seems to still run fine!

That old belt looked like it could of gone at any time!

Yep! Especially as I'm fairly confident now it was the original 150k mile belt/waterpump setup 😂 (or it got done at a dealer once which I highly doubt...)

Do you like your friend or not? 😁

@Volksy Sorry if I offended you, I was trying to poke some fun at the idea that your friend retreated from the tourist hordes somewhere where you're advocating visiting.

Bought a 10 litre tub of brown messy fence paint yesterday.

Took it too the shop counter to pay for it

Cashier saw the bar code on top of the lid.

And turned the tube on its side to try and scan the barcode by  moving the tub around  ...

One of those times you take a step back !!!!

Re Merc E-Class - try changing the filters on a C-Class with the same engine and even less space in the engine bay.  Daft bit of design.

bmwr1150 - lift the rear of the tank and its right there

most unfaired hondas - take off side panel remove snorkel itll be right there

current nc750x - take lid off fake tank take all the plastic off behind the handlebars unslot filter

stupidest place ever - clips made of cheese and no guarantee all the plastics will go back on straight/properly/unbroken

I had a BMW 320d with the M47 and recall the air filter being really easy. The oil filter location was fantastic too

I believe it's in the front bumper on my current Saab 95 and you can only do it from below. I haven't investigated. That's a job for an evening in spring

I remember one being "Which of these musicians was in 1970s supergroup Emerson, Lake and Palmer?"

Contestant reckoned it wasn't Greg Lake and went for Elton John

It's behind the corner of the bumper in a 6n polo too, certainly it is on the diesel.

It got quite difficult to change once the sills went too frilly to jack the car up.

I'm sure there may be another mature* individual who recalls a clip from It'll be alright on the night where a woman is aksed to name famous boxers.

She was apologetic in her response as she only knew the names of two boxers.

Cassius Clay ......

..

.

... and Muhammad Ali🤦
