I was talking about manuals but yes my Dad had a couple of automatic Cortinas and a Granada between 79-85 and they were definitely 3 speed.

ah yes sorry I was half asleep when I read that.No idea why I mentioned autos !

Ford 4 speed automatics first appeared in the Sierra in 1984, they weren't put in the Granada until the Mark 3 was launched in 1985.

Yes, Dad’s Granada was a late Mk2 2.3 GL estate. Definitely 3 speed auto .

I can’t quite see much that would prevent that from being roadworthy, sills looks good, frilly door bottoms isn’t much of a big deal really as long as tyres/brakes etc are all good. I suspect that this is another click bait wales online article (they are particularly bad for it)

We can't see the underside which could have a few holes in. That doesn't make good photos for the general public though.

As the ‘motor trade’ thread here backs up, I’ve never had much faith in the ‘general publics’ opinion on what may or may not be roadworthy. But point taken on what may or may not also be wrong with it.
I’ve known a few of the high vis types in the pictures be somewhat (or completely)  wrong on what constitutes ‘unroadworthy’ over the years as well though

Someone points out elsewhere that it's missing an exhaust and a wiper.  Door bottoms are going to attract attention certainly.

Fair enough, as per my proviso above, bits you can’t readily see in the pic thats posted

Zut alors, grand succès!

The tester evidently used to work on C15's at a Citroen dealers in the Eighties and was very complimentary of @dean36014's welding - he even asked for first refusal should I ever want to sell her.

Must be the day for it.  My C15 in for MOT too.  And a result that I consider a pass.

That test result is racist against C15s.

It's been a balmy 12 degrees down in Kent today so I ventured outside to fit my £12 Autojumble find carb to the Minor.

IMG20240125151755.thumb.jpg.32a9fa8b9032b34f0a86453c2914580f.jpg

I also bought a can of fuel to top the tank up with something fresher and also to give the little HS4 a damn good wash off and flush out before fitting it. Everything checked out well enough (its got a waxstat main jet that can be troublesome) but once the carb was fitted the engine genuinely jumped into life first attempt (with me holding the choke mechanism over) to a smooth fast idle and equally nice idle with the choke off it even revs cleanly now too.

It's almost like it was already set up for a 1275 midget engine of unknown spec. Tomorrow I will take him out for a run to see if its improved the bogging down problems once I get above 30 mph.

That can be deleted with a penny coin. @captain_70s has a post on his thread on how he did it to his.

Really. Despite my advancing years I didn't know that. I shall investigate.

Also @N Dentressangle did a post with photos that seems to come to the top of that search too. I think the car in question he did it to is the Spitfire that I now own. The mod has been faultless for me too since.

Edit, I knew captain did a post. 2018!

This is NDs post here:

Plenty of info on t'intermet - I found them way back when I had the BGT.

As SiC says - fit n forget... Worked great in mine too and very simple to do.

Great news on the replacement carb working..... Massive mojo boost I'm sure.

Good news for those of us fed up of being dazzled by modern headlights

This is meant to be tongue in cheek, just in case anyone thinks I condone any crime that targets cars

Not going to click any link to The S*n.

In a nutshell, what's going on? Tin opener on the body to steal the lights? What's the cannabliss link - revenge thing?

Apparently those headlights can be used to provide light to grow cannabis

I have a Porsche with xenon headlights and the unit pops out with just a 90 degree turn of a key

Also there's a Mercedes logo stamped on everything related to the xenon part, so I would guess it's just a Mercedes system on that particular model

The phenomenon might be 12 years old but the Taycan in those pictures could only be 3 years old at the most.

The amount of fucking about it would take to get those headlights to even power up when not attached to the car is quite significant. You'd need a CANbus emulator and a significant amount of programming knowledge. back when that story was new, the equipment would have cost at least a grand, which is a lot more money than an equivalent powered actual grow light setup.

Nobody is stealing LED headlights to grow weed with.

It might come as a shock to some people on here, but it appears that the sun is publishing a load of bollocks again

I think we know it'll just be that they're getting stolen because they're a valuable spare part, but that doesn't get attention like mentioning drugs!

I had a crap morning at work and since fixing things makes me feel happy I thought I'd take a look at the 75s bonnet switch on my lunch break. After the storms it thinks the bonnet is open and as a result the car beeps when it locks and the alarm goes off a short time later.

I took the switch apart:

This bit was wet and corrosion had occurred:

These prongs:

..go in these slots which were completely full of water

20240126_123158.thumb.jpg.7ae3afc222b064db95cbd5723488a909.jpg

I wicked it out with some paper towel, sprayed WD40 and I now have one fully functioning alarm again.

I could have saved £20 and not bought a new one however I don't think this will be fixed forever and replacements are surprisingly scarce. So it will be handy to have down the line.

Work has really been getting me down recently but these small wins are like therapy :)

Hmm...Yes, more than half of the bolts that are meant to be holding the fan cowling on the engine in the Trabant having vacated the premises would definitely account for the thing rattling so much!

You know when things start bad, you work hard to correct, recover and then things just get worse. Well here is a tale just like that.

Recently picked up a 09 Saab TTiD to replace the Citroen C5 as a family wagon. Really nice, clean car with big service history. Drives lovely and does dog transport duties well. Picked up, drove back great. Really quick and comfy car with added boost gauge goodness. Problem no. 1 ah the starter motor is buggered. Oh well, there is always something. Replacing it was much harder than anticipated, but it got done. Nice. Up and runing again. Now I have to travel abroad, but I think it will be plain sailing from here. Next problem. Low oil pressure warning. At this point I'm starting to wonder how the seller hid these problems so well. I had a good poke around, but all the trouble is happening after the deal. Ok, turns out it's a known TTiD foible. Mildly irritating, not terminal and fixable. Ok, I'll fix that in the summer. I'm aborad now anyway. Next comes a phone call in a panic. The alarm keeps going off. Dogs are setting it off. The ultrasonics are too sensitive. Ok, there is a fix for that in the car settings. Aand relax. Another phone call. The key disintegrated, can't get it. Panic. Ok, the spare at least is kind of ok (they had to walk home). I will reshell the key. Annd relax. Then one more phone call this evening. I was told to sit down. The car is broken I'm told.

So it turns out our "friend" was really having a bad time and stalled several times, apparently in 5th gear. Now the car is making a banging at idle. Also for shits and giggles it's apparently trying to drive forward in neutral and with the clutch fully depressed, it is also trying to drive.

My mood. As such. It is currently low. I spent the whole Christmas fixing many things and sorting many more out becuase I knew I would have to spend a lot of time travelling this year. Now it seems everything is fucked. I can't outrun the nonsense. I like to think I can and pat myself on the back for it, but there is always a new and interesting fuckup to trump the previous one.
