Can you not ask Panhard65 if he will do it?  He knows these cars and I'm willing to bet it won't cost as much as your specialist.

I would love to have a go but what with all the other work I have got on and a trip to France in June it would be July before I could even start on it. I am sure the guy up north would be a good bet as labour rates won't be as high as they are in the "rich" south

Indeed.

I don't think anyone objects to the government using it's database for Government fines and penalties. Many will feel differently about private companies being given the same information, especially as the DVLA won't give out the same information to injured parties in insurance cases.

Fair play to the RAC, the patrolman could not fix at the roadside and unsurprisingly the local motor factor did not have a spare condenser. Once cooled off it would restart and run for a bit so he kindly followed me to the garage and after three further stops it finally died in Cowbridge high street, he then hooked it on the back of his van and dragged it around to the garage. This may sound a pain, but was far quicker than him buggering off and booking a recovery truck. It's not back yet as the spares have not come in yet, fortunately there is a hire place next to work so I have booked their cheapest car to get home (it's actually cheaper than getting a taxi home and another to work tomorrow).

Fitted the LED headlight bulbs to The Volvo. They were like for like replacements, and as such, were installed without drama. Even during the day, the difference between LED bulbs and the old halogen bulbs is striking:

I'm going to keep the latter in the car just in case I run into practical or legal difficulties with the the LEDs, however.

Any extra space needed behind access covers etc.?

Has anyone here changed the spark plugs on a 1.6 Petrol Normally aspirated Nissan Juke ?

2 of the Spark plugs are hidden by the inlet manifold which is plastic and comes from the back of the engine, over the front of the engine. I managed to get all 7 bolts removed, disconnected all the hoses and cables which attach to it, and then it was loose. Only I couldn't remove it because the coolant reservoir appears to be part of the radiator, and I couldn't believe that I'd need to remove the radiator, fan and coolant reservoir just to change the spark plugs, so I put it back together again for a second time. I have looked on You Tube and it's full of dick head American's talking ballocks about the turbo version.

Amazingly the Oil change was the easiest I've done in a while.

At least it's pretty. I had a pretty mini, just like that. I had to take the engine out lots of times. I was very poor at the time so I sold it, I'd love another.

Just had a phone call from Specialist car. Not what I wanted/hoped for. Cylinder B4 is full of water. So it looks like head gasket after all. They can't start on it for a few weeks and are quoting £5 -6K!!!!!!! Fuck me, that sounds a tad expensive. :( 45 hours labour apparently. Anyone conversant with these things want to do it?

Well not like, obviously. But commiserate.

I’m sure you’ve got too much invested in it now to walk away. A Citroen mechanic friend switched to working at N sandell in isleworth the other year. I think he’s left again, but I can ask if he’s interested if you want? He is mobile and has quite a few high wealth clients.

Or even give them a call for an estimate and transport? It may be cheaper than your guys.

You're welcome to have a blast in it when it's fixed, if only to remind yourself that they are a pain in the ass! It is fun though, 1430 and a straight cut box make the loud pedal very addictive

If a cylinder is full of water, won't potentially bendy things happen internally in the engine?

Posted

I don’t think you’ll bend anything on the starter. It sounds like the cylinder filled up when it was parked .

Ace, mine was a 1380 with a cam and whatnot, Great fun on the test drive, it managed to get nearly all the way home before spinning a big end bearing, then wouldn't start back up because it wasn't charging. I managed to run over my own foot with it pushing it out of traffic and now my foot goes shit from time to time. I still want another one day, maybe not another A series though.

These

All of these. Please get some quotes before using these guys again.

Sounds about the level of gratitude I'm getting off this one for getting it back on the road   It only has 23K and 3 owners from new, I think it prefers being in the garage!

edited to add it was doing a bloody good job of keeping a zx10r at bay round the twisties before the clutch ruined the fun 8)

I'd forgotten the feeling of riding a skateboard from inside a washing machine

I have been to a local Classic car gathering this evening with mainly the usual suspects, but we did get a Renault van fitted with R5 Turbo engine. The owner tells me he wanted to keep it as standard as possible but had to revise the suspension after he had an off!

In case Bub reads this I included the Trike, the guy is over 80 has 3 bikes, but now finds them hard to ride so got the trike.

We've move both our main cars over to petrol chariots. They might cost a bit more at the pump but no OMGDMFDPFDEFTURBOINJECTORDIESELPUMP shite to worry about.

Modern dervs have become so bloody complicated and fragile now IMO they miss the point

That's exactly the rationale with Amy having a 30mpg 1.8 pez Zafira for her 20 miles a day, rather than a 50mpg 1.9 cdti which would shit itself in short order!

I do like reading about these projects that turn out to be a bit of a handful when completed.

I've also made a complete switch to petrol. My hands no longer stink after refuelling and, as you say, precious little simplicity in a modern diesel, which was always something I liked about old-school diesels.

Modern diesels can be a pain, but driven properly they’re not too bad.

This is only a 1.8 (VVTC) so doubt it’ll be a rocket ship somehow!

Am I the only person who uses those funny plastic gloves when filling up with diesel? I thought everyone did that :-S

17-Coffees' father has a vectra with the same engine. I can attest that he makes good use of the modest power available!

Think of the waste plastic! I decided it was easier to just use a more-polluting petrol instead.
