The owner of the Vauxhall came ound today and brought the various bits of broken plastic that should cover the mirrors. I spent a happy 10 minutes glueing the bits back together and then thought I'd see how they actually fit to the car. The aswer is: Bloody easily! I was only going to look, but they clipped on with so little effort I'd done them both in the time it took Chester to pee on the drivers side wheels.

 

To say I have many and varied watches, assessing time passage by 'dog pissing length' is a new one, even for me!

Oh yes and in 'dollop' news, there isn't any! But I asked on the Ozzie forum and apparently, fuel injection prolems can do what the old heap is doing - either accumulator or something else (I've forgotten already!) can cause this problem. I like the sound of this as it will be rather a lot cheaper than what my mind is currently seeing as the probable cause (broken something, obviously expensive!).

That's handy. It hides the fact the previous owner of my TT only had it 3 months. Makes it a bit less weird that I've only owned it for a month too.

In other news: I stayed up all night watching 'Tabula Rasa' on 'All four'  and it was effin' good, possibly even great! More twists and trns than the Graveley interchange and several plot twists that I really did not see coming.  I thought it didn't matter as the dogs do not like the heat and everywhere is really busy here on a bank holiday, so staying up until 9:30 A.M. wasn't a problem. I took the dogs out at 8:00 A.M. and then watched the last episode then went to sleep! Woke up when Colin came round (Vauxhall owner) and then had a shower and took the dogs to the beach - I thought it would be quiet by 4:30 ish... I was wrong! Still packed but quietened down by 5:30 and Phoebe had a good swim around while Chester had a wonderful time annoying other dogs... of course he fel in love with a 'Chug' so had to be put back on his lead so they could leave the beach without a fat Basset going with them!

Went to Japfest Silverstone in my Impreza.

I've come the conclusion that I'll never be able to afford a Mazda RX-7 FD; furthermore, that last image isn't of a Lexus, million mile example or otherwise.

As the camera I gave back to work got lost or eaten or something, I had to fall back on back on my fall back (so I got into camouflage).
With cameras, it was my ambition to have ambition, so I decided to charge up the allegedly broken Sony Alpha 390 I was given in a box, cleaned the sensor up to stop it displaying a lens error, fitted an old M42 135mm lens given to me by Pete-M (with an adaptor), and snapped away until it overheated in the tandoori oven heat of Silverstone. 

It was nice to catch up with Hirst, bathe in the stench of weed and turquoise hair dye - and marvel at the Blues Brothers number of cops lining the A43. 
My Impreza still works, and I saw Partridge on the way home, too.

Ok, the DVLA won't hand over PO details to enthusiasts tracing the history of their car, but they're more than happy to pass on information to cowboy parking firms if they pay. This really annoys me - they can't have it both ways.

They can hardly be expected to sift through requests and judge the moral character of parking companies. There's no point holding a register of car owners if you can't use those details to uphold things like driving and parking penalties. Yes, it was nice when we could get other owners' details perhaps, but that's also a pretty serious privacy issue.

I don't think anyone objects to the government using it's database for Government fines and penalties.Many will feel differently about private companies being given the same information, especially as the DVLA won't give out the same information to injured parties in insurance cases.

And the Land Rover has died on the way to work, I am now pretty sure it is the condenser. It died once and restarted after a few minutes, but then died again a few hundred yards down the road. Fortunately the road is wide, now waiting for the RAC, who won't have a condenser and will then have another two hour wait for recovery. Slightly tempted to get a taxi and go to parts factors and see if they have any bits.

It's taken about 5 days (mostly my fault) to go and view a Galaxy diesel about 20 miles away. Found out it's had stupid amounts of money thrown at it, inc. recon box, DMF, cam belt kit etc. Whanged up this morning to view it, and it's shaking like a bastard at the front during medium-heavy acceleration. 

Waste of time/fuel really, but I did get manage to DLAC in the Puma and overtook everyone possible in some style.

Just had a message from a chap on the Ozzie forum about 'dolop': he posted a tech bulletin about the cold start injector failing on these cars, this injector has constant pressure and if it fails, 'can' fill cylinders with fuel. Sounds hopeful?

 

Also, my friend Betty has just rung me, says I can have her old Fiesta as soon as she moves. This has been on the cards for ages but the timing is good right now. It is a lovely little thing: she's had it since new, Ghia spec and in rust free condition and runs like a champ, always serviced and mot'd at the ssame place etc. Betty is 85 so she is of the generation that cared about stuff. it also has the best collection of parking scrapes I have ever seen! The front bumper is held on with screws and faith

 

I used to joke that I wanted it when she snuffed it and I would restore it in her honour, so now I'm going to have to! I bet the minute I start hunting for decent bits for an old Fiesta, Ford tax will kick in and prices for bits will rocket!
