Good call on ditching the wheels. Without coming over all Troy Queef for me my old mx5 was all about the feel of driving and having huge alloys just blunts the feel for me. My old mx5 had fat jdm wheels which sold well and I chucked a set of standard rims and tyres on. So much more fun.

Mind you it's one of the few cars I've lost control of exiting a roundabout, probably because it seemed to make me drive that sort of way. In the end I sold it for my own/ other people's safety.

I don't think I should get my cars out of the garage, last time I got the Mazda out, two days later, it snowed and it disappeared for three days.

Two days ago I got the dollop out of the garage, guess what... it's snowing!

I hired one to move house. Uncomfy as fuck to drive 10miles in, I've no idea how it was ever approved.

It only gets really bad for me after a few hundred miles - agreed the seats are shit though

Are these the same fitment as a VW?

MX-5s use 4x100.

4-stud VWs also use 4x100, as do E30 BMW 3 series, first-gen BINIs, and also lots of other 4-stud JDM cars. You're quids in with those wheels.

Mrs fp has agreed for me to be stripping down her rs turdbo so I can sort any bits of rust that is hiding (im under no impression that there wont be any as its an 80s ford) so that it can have a new paint job etc without worrying that work will need to be done afterwards, I have now moved it to my working area so i can make a start stripping it down and at the end of the month when the tax is up it will be sorned, who knows I may even start a project thread for it

Had a phone call from the insurance assessors. Looks like it's touch and go if it's a write-off. Boot floor is straight but the crash beam has hit the back of the body and bent it. He reckons that these Civics are a pain to try and get realigned all again.

Needs to be confirmed by their engineer and then the insurance company will be in contact for settlement values if written off.

Ohhhhh that's pleasing to hear! If I can get the other wheels for around £100-120 I should be in profit then.

2 days!

If you can get a fresh MOT without too much work there's some profit in that, especially with summer nearly here (apparently).

Because I'm nice, I've lent my motorbike boots to a colleague. I don't ride very often so thought I could do him a good turn.

Because I'm an idiot, the very next day I get a reminder that all the paperwork is due on the bike... So I fact I do need to ride it, to get it to the garage for an MoT. Plonker.

I've got it home, I don't really know what to think, it drives well enough and is certainly quick! But it has its issues which im not sure I can be arsed with, the ABS light is on, it doesn't start every well but I think it's in desperate need of a service, there not much history with it and worse is the rust around the arches, being yellow the paint has faded too so painting it would be a nightmare to match.

I'm half tempted just to punt it back on for £600 and get my money back on it, especially as the wheels are meant to be worth £300+ on their own?

Doing a tip run in the Cav earlier I wasn't far from a local landmark, so I took the opportunity for a pic.

205 home and being got ready for its first mot for 7 years. Apart from general filth the bodywork looks good as does the paint. No evidence of bashes so far .

The car appears to have been seldom occupied by more than one person, but unfortunately she always sat in the same seat, hence the drivers perch no longer matches the others.

Oils have been drained and the original plug-leads and distributor cap will be getting changed. I can't wait to re-fill the gearbox down the dipstip tube, the official method. One of the tyres looks original, all need replacing. That's my weekend bolloxed but in a good way.

I have a big aversion to things hung under the wheel arch. Rover P4s had a reservoir for the brake servo there and, predictably, they rot away in the first week and after plugging up the pipe you manage without like every other car.

I'm sure someone here knows what this cylindrical tank does, hope its not full of piss.

I wish the car was a manual but in keeping with it being a watered down Gti these were hip-replacement spec only in the UK.

As mentioned previously I was having problems with the Cortina overheating while trying to bleed the cooling system. I ordered a new stat, radiator cap, fan belt and on advice from here bought a re-built original cast impeller water pump.

Pretty good for 20 quid and probably twice as heavy as the chineseium one on it.

s-l1600.jpg

The old one looked okay other than it having a pressed rather cast fan. There was no play in it or resistance to it spinning but it didn't exactly look quality.

I also flushed the coolant through a few times (I now have about 10 litres of manky coolant to get rid of). I also took the radiator and heater matrix out and back flushed them.

I did a rough flow test on the radiator, which I also though was suspect by plugging the bottom hole, filling it with water then unplugging the end. It seemed to dump it all out almost instantly, which makes me think it's not horribly choked,

Over a few nights I put it back together again. After swapping the insurance from the Maestro onto this and spending a few hours trying to find the v5 so I could tax it it was good to go. I went down late afternoon to bleed it through and after running for about 2 minutes it ran out of petrol. After a quick trip to the petrol station it bled through okay so I took it out for a drive.

NICE AND STEADY. Phew

So this is the first drive in probably 3 years on the public highway.

The brakes are pretty horribly as there's a stuck bleed nipple so I can fully bleed it. Other than that it drove pretty well and  nothing boiled over or fell off.

The last time it was on the road it had old Ghia seats in it with burst springs that tried to do horrible things to your bum cheeks.

It's a bit snug with the seatbelt on cause I'm fat. It seems to have a second seatbelt mounting point a few inches forwards so I might move it to them to accommodate for my fatness.

I guess I need to drive it now,

Aren't motorbike boots a bit overkill on a Honda Vision?

They are scooter ones, not full-on solid ski-style ones, but hopefully enough to avoid a broken ankle at 30mph! I'll probably chance it in normal shoes.

At least I didn't lend him my helmet...

Other than the brakes only two minor issues.

1: The steering wheel isn't on straight

2: When I turned on the heater  clouds came out. Not steam but clouds. No rain tho.

Up early today to take the CRV to have a new windscreen fitted. It's been cracked since last July but since it's not due an MOT till June this year I'm counting this as being massively proactive. Fitted a new set of Bosch wipers all round just to celebrate. I'm now actually motivated to clean the thing inside and out for the first time in about a year (once the weather improves naturally).

Took the GPz1100 for an MOT in the afternoon and f**k me was that a cold wind. Snowing intermittently too, not enough to lie but enough to stop me being arsed to take photo's for your viewing pleasure...soz about that.

Booked my XR650 in for an MOT nest weekend, it's not even been started in the 18 months since I dropped it on myself and broke my leg so I've got a few nights of prep ahead of me this coming week.

Fleet management is going well this year (for a change) even though it feels like I'm actually working 2 full-time jobs some weeks.

Went to British Rallycross at Silverstone today, absolutely brilliant racing and some racing chod in the retro rallycross. Bloody freezing though.
