I have been driving the Jag regularly over the last week after its month in the sin bin.

I had been concidering shifting it along scince the hose fiasco started, I was looking at Volvo and Merc estates as possible replacements. Somthing more modern and reliable. But this last week has reignited the fire, I have never been so happy with it.

"If you love em', let em' go, and if they come back it was ment to be."

I can see myself owning it for many years to come.

Battery cap removal tool arrived this morning. Hopefully I can now unscrew the battery cell caps without ruining the heads on 'em.....

Alternatively....

s-l500.jpg

Or the denomination of choice that fits the slot on the caps.

Never worked for me - all it did was ruin the caps. Currency devalued.

Its all we ever used in the garage.

Obviously I had to drill a hole through the middle and tie it to the wall with a bit of string to stop it wandering into someones pocket.

Made a useful little modification to the bx today. Two washer jets for a fiver delivered and a couple of quid for enough new pipe to do 3 cars. Got rid of the useless spray bar that kept blocking up and was falling to bits. New jets work well and after a bit of adjustment to the direction of the nozzles cleans the screen great.

Works for me, well 5 eurocent does.

I've just seen someone on Twitter post that they were bravely going to trust a 1997 Mondeo for a 200-mile trip, because their 08 plate Vectra had a steering fault. Followed up by them taking the Vectra anyway because they 'bottled' it. FFS!

Hold on there with the criticism folks.

There’s quite a few on here (myself included) who wouldn’t want to do 2 miles, let alone 200, in a Vauxhall Vectra.

That chap is probably so hardcore that he could do a 10 stretch in Guantanamo bay standing on his head.

I assume you are talking about Tyron bands? the two-part metal thing that fills the wheel well to prevent a flat tyre coming off the rim? If so, go to a caravan workshop - they sell them and will know what they are doing.

Otherwise, just get a garage to break the front bead and push the tyre down far enough to grind/dremmel off the allen bolts, then bin the fucking things. The principal of them is sound, but they are really meant for trailers and caravans where it is possible to not realise the tyre has punctured and keep driving. It stops the flat tyre coming off the rim and fucking shit up. They are a bit pointless on a car though as you will notice a flat tyre straight away.

Hey, someone that knows about them!

They are indeed - no idea why this giffer put them on his 740.

Yep, doing that tomorrow.

The tyre place looked at it and said that the powdercoaters fucked the sidewall/bead up and I'll have to buy a new tyre.

FFS.

Holy shit I just bought a flat (subject to contract)

Hello 40 years of debt

40?

Take it back and get a refund/replacement; blatantly not fit for use and presumably a manufacturing defect.

Or they may say you hit a kerb hard in a big heavy Volvo which caused the wall to rupture.

Ah, that sucks balls, man.

Sadly, I doubt the powder coaters will be in a hurry to pay out for replacement either and life is too short to spend a fortnight going back n forth playing the blame game.

Been using the BGD again today, even did some work on it! Well, I say 'work' what I mean is: took spash shields out of the wheelarches (what a faff - degree in engineering required) so I could spray waxoyl all inside the front wings. To be honest, they didn't need doing but it's been on my mind... which is fatal.

Then prised rubber seals out of the way and sprayed - you know what- under them as well. Also attacked the blister in the drivers door (just under the window seal where the painter scratched it putting trims on) with a blade then fine sandpaper and etch primed it. Was already to touch in the top coat when I discovered etch primer needs 24 hours to dry. Bugger...

I am back in love (touch wood... just did) as it is fabulous to drive and currently (touch wood even more, whistle and stroke the dog... or something) all is performing as it should, even the rev counter (tachometer) is behaving precisely. But, it does get a LOT of attention! People look at it all the time, some are amused with a slobbery dogs head hanging out of the back window (both sides) but some just glare like I'm rich or posh or a twat (so partly right) and I'm not that keen on the attention to be honest. It is also a car with a reputation for serene progress, so when I behave like a hooligan (I can't resist sometimes... I'm only nearly human) and out accelerate an Audi from the traffic lights without really flexing my big toe overly hard I tend to get glared at even more. Worse, I feel a twat for showing off. There is just no answer for my endless 1st world problems :)

Apologies if I've missed anything, been away in Germany and I'm just catching up.

Bini should go next week, the £10 instrument pack worked and the high level brake lamp has been replaced, as has the windscreen. So, looking for a cheap runner that would be suitable for youngest to learn in, i found this in MOT History;

Whilst it appears funny, on the face of it, I think I'd be a bit narked if I was on the receiving end. After all, the MOT is an important part of a cars history, or am I being too sensitive after a long week?

I remember one of the resident MOT testers here saying that the DVSA take a very dim view of things like that. I guess if you're particularly annoyed you probably could contact them to review and revise it.

Even better, maybe pop the reg on the Matters of Testing blog. I bet that would get a few MOT testers on there feathers fluffing.

Of course the only thing would be is that reporting it could make the tester loose his job and tester licence. If he's not already... To be honest if a tester is prepared to do that, I'd question his/her professionalty and confidence in their ability to do their job properly.

I have noticed more ‘arse covering’ with advisories these days. The Bini had the rear pads advised as wearing thin, when they are only half worn.

I picked this Billy wagon up earlier, Great Uncle Norm has hung up his driving gloves.. its got the quietest X12XE ive ever heard in it, my old one sounded like a skeleton wanking in a biscuit tin even after a new chain. Not sure of plans for it yet, i might run it for work or flog it on. Fitting number plate too ????

Well at the moment I’m heading off in the 33yr old 2cv for a 500mile round trip for a funeral because the 24yr old Mercedes is having a hypochondriac attack.
