The vectra was overdue an air filter.

The BMW had it's MOT - it dipped it but only on a split boot on a drop link. I am waiting for the part to come in.

Got a doorbell camera so when the TV licence inspector comes I don't even have to open the door to tell him to clear off. Nice.

No, on my phone! Even when I'm not at home.

He called round the other week. Very bloody cheeky. Kept asking for the previous owner of the address.  Then who I was. Had to ask him 3 times who he was until he said "I'm your local TV licence inspector". I said "no thanks"  and locked the door. He must get that a lot.

They're so bloody pushy. I must fill out that online "I don't need one" but I loath to give them any details. Or I should just buy one. I dunno.

I’ve used that stuff back in the day and it is very good.

These days I’m not into ‘detailing’ and more just cost effective ways of making things look less shit.

Read on forums over the years about Cherry Blossom liquid shoe wax and how people have done their bumpers and years later it looks exactly the same with no fading.. I did the Transit months ago, posted pics in that thread and it still looks exactly the same now. For £1 a bottle it’s bloody amazing

Any link for the cherry blossom? I can only see it at £5 or £6 ish.

Boiled linseed oil is another cheap alternative that lasts ages and smells nice.

+1 on this, a 500ml bottle lasts ages and it does really work. About £3 a go, but it has been about 5 years since I bought some.

It's a little bit self-ignitey on rags, so if you apply it, use kitchen roll and burn it after use, or if you use an old rag, just don't leave it in direct sunlight. I've never had any issues, but apparently it is a 'thing'

Also good for rust proofing as per @loserone post

Please don't!

The more people that tell them to get lost, the less likely it is they may think their harassing attitude is working.

One can hope anyway..

Yes! And mixed with some white spirit, you have patina juice, should you want to preserve a rusting panel that looks nice without it actually blowing through.

A rag isn't a rag unless it has a flashpoint.

When I was a kid I used a magnifying glass with a boiled Linseed rag. I'd remembered Father Spurious telling me about it being rather flammable.

It literally started smoking a minute or two later after focusing the sun and poof, up it went.

Right little arsonist I was.

Odd that Welsh is second on that sign.

Because only about 57 people in the whole of Wales actually speak Welsh, so on an important road sign, it makes sense to put English first.

57 ?  I think it's probably more. I say this because my English sister got a job at Bangor university, and had to learn Welsh within 3 years, and has to make sure all meeting minutes are available in Welsh and English.  My parents invited 60 people to their 60th Wedding Anniversary and at least 30 of them were Welsh speakers.  Including my parents. (Both born and raised in Lancashire)

Finally got this piss bag sorted thanks to Pete-M and his friend, Paul.

I haz agreed to do a buy!

In typical autoshite fashion, £600, moon miles, retail silver with rust bless, no MoT, not seen it running and won't run unless it's started on easy start and I've not really got anywhere to store it.

😂

Update...

So having agreed to purchase I set about getting this thing running, out of MOT in January, not been opened since... buying from BIL and he's read that fault can be caused by ignition switch module failing.  Went out to it today armed with a new switch block, connected up Aldi jump pack and started first flick of the key... Result!!

So just need to get a couple of tyres and get it booked in for an MOT and conversion into a day van can commence!  Ideally could of been a bit bigger but for £600 I'll make it work...

Bil has owned it from almost new, used every day for work, put over 200k on it, retired it and decided to create a camper, put the side windows in then lost interest when it dawned on him he had driven it 200k and the last thing he wanted to do was drive it any further when on holiday, couldn't be arsed dealing with Joe public and wanted it gone..

The plate must be worth more than £600 to V TULLY if they're handy with the screwcaps?

I think about this old Hector daily.  Had I known then what I know now, I probably wouldn't have sold it - but I'm glad it's gone to such a great home and has had such care lavished on it already.  What a brilliant thing it is.

Keep us updated!

We'll make sure you have first refusal if//when it ever becomes surplus to requirements. All being well, current thinking is that Miss SL will take it over as her car when the Yaris is passed onto Master SL as his first car later this year. That'll mean they're both using cars older than they are, something I've not yet managed.

In an ideal world I'd have kept the Camry long enough and they could have used that, but at the time they hadn't signed up.

Anyway, update time. A couple of the other aforementioned entries:

They followed the Panda up the Stelvio Pass yesterday. Apparently it needed a jump start at one point, but it made it. The Avensis did just fine, indeed they appear so relaxed driving that in one of the videos we saw Miss SL's BF nocholantly eating crisps as he negotiated one of the bends. Despite having never driven on a UK motorway (we don't have many of them here in East Anglia) Miss SL had a go on the autobahn.

DTD2.thumb.jpg.f6fcf1de55539c7560310e0d511852ae.jpg

And a couple of glamour shots from the top.

They're staying up there like @Ian_Fearn reported in his fantastic thread here:

Need a towbar for the Volvo 740 saloon.

They are rare apparently, but I see 940 estate tow bars. Does anyone know if they'll fit?

I was reliably informed recently (possibly by @bub2006?) that Autogreens use an old Toyo tread pattern. I've no idea how the actual rubber compares, but apparently they're not a bad steer.

Thats what I was informed too.  They have gone up in price now too so the focus is now wearing Avon zt7 on the front and the autogreens on the rear.

I have looked a bit and few sell new towbars for Volvo 740 and 940 now but the only place I found one is the same towbar listed on both 740 and 940. But that can be wrong.

I've put a deposit down on the most expensive car I've ever bought.

I was invited by a friend to go to a big VW rally. Supposedly it is open to all VAG group cars, not just VWs and my green Favorit is a mk2 so post VW takeover. And of course it has a Polo GTI engine. Still didn't think it would attract any other Škodas and I was very nearly right but it was a cheap day out so why not.

I decided my challenge would be to find original standard cars. Seeing as I turned up in a lowered, stiffened Favorit with a Polo engine and big black shiny wheels this was more than a bit hypocritical but hey ho. Obviously the Dub Scene is renowned for doing stupid things so original cars were very thin on the ground. Here's a few.

Okay, so the wheels aren't standard but I don't ever remember seeing one of these before and it was very nice

This was our little corner, the Audi 80 and Up! belong to friends of mine. The Up! is standard and the Audi is almost but not quite.

This would have been nice but for the bloody surfboard. Nobody needs a surfboard in Oxfordshire. But at least there was no Yo Stance going on.

IMG_20220626_134557.thumb.jpg.bcdec4a6500df65ab25ae7f0ea489002.jpg

Again not quite standard but I still liked it.

Proper original this one.

Beige and standard apart from the wheels.

And in the car park, at last another Škoda. Fabia Scout!

IMG_20220626_120646.thumb.jpg.fbeba694980e2cf454878222df30f39e.jpg

And this to me was car of the show. Absolutely mint, original Lupo GTI.

IMG_20220626_114115.thumb.jpg.de88a464de8c2dacd74b030de28a08a9.jpg

There were a few hundred cars and vans there and this was the best I could come up with. The rest were all ridiculous. This Variant sums it up as he crawled along at about 3mph trying to avoid the bigger blades of grass.

It was a very nice setting though, Stonor Park, Oxfordshire. Still a nice day out despite most of it really not being my thing.

Any more of that Type 2 - can't quite make out if the reg starts LJK or not? 3 parents of friends had locally registered T2's when I was in my early teens so I might have been in that one back in the day.
