Last night I came back from the stables to see an unmarked fuel tanker being followed by a small number of cars on the southbound M1 from Jcn.6, whilst almost everyone else was driving really slowly.

Are you sure it wasn't a mortar tanker?

Definitely fuel, with all those hazard signs on it.

Can you please ask them to justify the £422 per year they charged to a 76 year old man for his car recovery!!!! New member maybe...

No, 56 fkin years and they would still be skinning him now. Exploiting the elderly.... He didn't even drive for the last four years!!! 😠😠😠😠

Anyone know the email address of the bloke who does all the AA tv interviews 😠😠😠

Turns out he was 82 when last turned over for £422.... a bargain really because the previous year it was £426....😠😠😠😠

I simply can not get fuel. My son’s birthday today and a day out necessitates the use of the Caravelle. 1/4 tank - no worries. On the way home I start to look for options, casually like so as not to cause concern, and nothing. Every fuel station I passed from MK to St Neots had no diesel. And I mean - not one. Tonight I dropped my son at his mates and thought I’d go on the prowl, there is none. I tried 7 stations around Cambridge and in Cambridge - I repeat: there is none. I called my friend who is a DI at Cambridge Constabulary. “any intel?”. “There is none”.

It backs up this story on BBC a news (OMG MSM RIGHT WING LEFT WING ETC Blah)

Petrol deliveries: Supply remains critical in south-east England, say retailers https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/58772169

People will say on here that the media are fuelling this (pun intended). They are not. There is very very little fuel and none of it easily accessible.

Please. For the love of fucking Christ, buy what you need. Tell your family to buy what they need. Post on your Facebook telling people to buy what they need. But the only way out of this, right now, is if people take a bit of fucking responsibility. I wanted to stick in just £20 so I could take a load of my sons mates to football tomorrow rather than 6 cars doing a 60 mile round trip. I couldn’t do that. Yet, my need is trivial.

Mark my words, we are on the edge of fucking disaster. Not Brexit. Not MSM. Not Ir35. Because people are thick. They’re selfish, they’re worried (understandably) and they’re thick.

I appreciate my mood has changed from my last post on the topic; I had hoped people would have come to their senses by now. But it’s a problem being driven by people. Not supply (there was no issue until that leaked Memo) not government not anything. People.

I do not blame the government. The politicians. The media.

The great British public own this one.

I'm biased but love these vans. Keep the photos coming, grey rainy Scotland on a housing estate doesn't do this little charmer justice

Had to run a couple of errands here today.  Zero fuel at any of the stations I passed.  I'd kind of expected this to have sorted itself out by now.

I'm quite likely going to need to make a run up north at short notice soon as the father of a very good friend passed away a couple of days ago.  Having to miss the funeral "because I can't get fuel" would feel awful.

Dang all this talk of mk being out of fuel, I'm going to my dad's next weekend, was hoping to find some between Aylesbury and Peterborough!

Dad said he got some fine the other day by him so that's a plan I guess.

Equally I've not gone into the office on purpose to save fuel for the trip just in case. Got to go in next week though at least once, and I'm not stopping for a topup at over 3/4 a tank...

Honestly I think some of the farmland, avenues of trees and forests between Stirling and Airth look a bit like France.

It really is a thing of wonder. The whole way home that exhaust just oozed a smell like fresh baguettes.

Filled up the BGT earlier. Nearest petrol station that no one ever uses was out. Next nearest is Esso and out too. These are the next village along and on a main road so unsurprising.

In the nearest town the Esso only had diesel and E10 petrol. The Tesco had premium and super unleaded but no diesel!

I always wonder how people are supposed to fill up a BGT. The filler is right down low on the bumper and the auto cutoff never works properly. So I end up crouching at the rear end with the nozzle half in as I watch it fill up. Once I see petrol at the top of the filler neck I know it's full.

Must be an easier way of doing it. I find the auto stop doesn't stop on it, so I have to watch.

kerry has shagged the brakes on the Toyota,

seems we have lost one of the friction pad things.

Euro Car Parts apparently have some in stock, so has gone to pick them up.

i'm expecting them to give us a clutch kit for a Hillman Imp or some other random part instead......

Just in, this lovely little book published by APC Motor Oil in 1928. Tells a lot about the required maintenance of the era (oil changes every 1500 kms,  greasing, decoking), excellent artwork, and a comprehensive list showing what type of oil even the more obscure brands require.

Olly the orange car needs new boots. I thought I'd buy another set of winter tyres to stop me bogging down occasionally on the odd camping field. There is no choice left anymore! Places like tyreleader have some Hankook iCept's in 185X14 with a gorgeous tread pattern, but they're away on the continent & are likely to drop off my tyres with a huge extra bill. Where do folk buy their's from now Britain has become global?

They say all taxes are included in the £ amount. They are probably like AutoDoc where they are a VAT registered EU company and the customer doesn't pay anything on arrival.

well, we have had a 50% success with the Toyota's brakes.

Captains side, no bother at all, calliper off, worn pads out and all back together.

Drinkers side, not so good..... some loon has been in there at some point and rounded off the bolts holding the calliper to the carrier.

great.

so, kerry put the wheel back on, and we'll get George in town to look at it as he will have the tools and knowledge to be able to get it apart.

and the issue with the brakes is i think that the drinkers side is seized and not working correctly, so it'll most likely end up getting either new sliders or a new calliper.

don't you just love old cars.

Well, if you'd filled half a dozen jerry cans like the smart* people you'd be fine.

It is actually a cruel irony that the fuck nuggets hoarding fuel are now the people who actually have some and the people filling up as normal are now fucked.

A collection retrospective. I didn't really plan to document this, so not many pictures I'm afraid.

On Monday evening last week I drank quite a few cans and browsed Gumtree in a slightly inebriated state. I spied a cheap, but oh so very crusty car in the place what cars go to rust, Inverness. A message was deployed and on Tuesday morning the chap called back and offered to hold onto the car until Friday and even knocked £100 off the already reasonable asking price. A deal was made.

A collection plan was hatched for early Friday morning.

Leg one got underway at 6:20am and was completed by glamorous red Saab convertible courtesy of @SRi05 - Top man.

I was accompanied on the trip by @davidfowler2000 and as a perk of his employ, he bagged me a £6 train fare. We met at Glasgow Queen Street for the 0700 Inverness Service.

IMG20211001064316.thumb.jpg.f679c163f845ef97bde52703f0ee2034.jpg\

Disappointingly this service was being operated by a Class 170 DMU, not an HST as we'd hoped. Furthering the disappointment, there was no trolley service on board.

NO LOITERING, by order.

We arrived in Inverness and spied our first scrap of the trip, a Volvo 940 estate, also a remarkably rust free 02 plate Pisshat. We were met by the seller at the station who kindly gave us a lift out to his house about a mile away.

Monies were exchanged and the crispy car collected.  On the road to the petrol station we spied an Austin Maxi (!!!). We sloshed in some fuel at Tesco and got a quick bite to eat.

IMG20211001112256.thumb.jpg.49fa2bd6603a555d87b7892f913d4764.jpg

A real 40 footer this one, but oh so very cheap and with plenty good bits to plunder. It is really incredibly crusty and the exhaust is bursted to all fuck, but engine and box seem bob on, there are some natty seats and some other good bits.

IMG20211001124029.thumb.jpg.14ab6f5c80d78b0bb02f3036c74388f5.jpg

We took the back road down towards Fort Augustus which was entertaining. Here is the MX-5 with Fowler having a pish in the background.

Fort William was achieved and a pub lunch taken. The Fort as fucking dismal as always.

IMG20211001135556.thumb.jpg.902d01523e4fa7ec2af1db8831c10f02.jpg

Despite the gloomy skies we managed to keep the roof down from Fort William to Ardlui. The road home was a real rich seam of scrap. We spied @Tommyboy12 and @sharley17194 heading North on their heroic trip. Scrap count that we can remember;

02 plate Passat estate NOT ROTTEN IN INVERNESS!!!
Austin Maxi
Montego Estate
Citroen AX
2 x Citroen Xsaras and a third on 4 axle stands
Triumph TR6
Vauxhall (Carlton we think) Hearse "decorated" for some gumball rally that's going on up there this week
DeLorean
Reliant Fox camper (pictures earlier)
E reg Ducato camper
Smiley Transit Camper
Volvo 940 Estate
MG B GT
Saab 900 Convertible

Home was achieved almost exactly 12 hours from initial departure;
