The only things I ever seem to take to the tip are bags full of festering garden waste, which stinks the car out for weeks afterward! Or used engine oil/filters.

Our local tip is very good at sorting the waste though, so I live in hope they find any old toys and stuff that’s too good to chuck away and sell them on. They even take all the old books out of the bin bags that get thrown in the skips and put them in big ‘book bank’ crates for re-use.

Ours does that but I’ve a feeling quite a lot of it falls in the boot of their car. I wouldn’t mind we’re it not for that there’s usually loads of debris and nails/screws etc left all over the show. Clearing that up so I don’t get a nail in the tyre should be their prime concern.

Last time I went I took some really old battery cables from the Mercury. I literally picked them up out the car boot to take them to the metal skip and one of the lads there offered to take them away for me separately…

Being copper I’m not surprised! I wonder where all that goes!

.  I've never owned many Spot-on diecasts. The Humber estate fell apart decades ago, though I still have its plastic luggage rack

And here's me restoring my childhood Humber estate, from which the rack has long vanished! :)

Bristol missing its windows

The Bristol 406 is the main one missing from my collection back here ...if you wanted to part with it?

Because the glazing piece is available: 115 Bristol clear plastic window unit £2.80

...and I wanted to restore a rough one into the 'Rich Marone' colour they offered, as worn by the Inspector Linley 410.   Many of the few colours Spot-on used such as the bright yellow and red just don't fit the car, making my teeth itch.

Unlikely to part with it yet.  Mine was originally a metallic pale green but was repainted blue by my inexpert self when I was about 12 and had some Humbrol knocking about.

I'll take a photo of the luggage rack and, if it is the correct one/will fit your restoration, you can have it FOC.  I'm about to go out so it will be later today.

Very kind of you Ray, thank you!

This 1968 Quattroporte fire engine is my favourite.

Of course, it’s been modelled .

Interesting.  So now a Maserati Dueporte!

Apparently 5 were built out of 1966-69 Quattroportes in April 1973 for use on racing circuits such as Monza and Imola.  Holding back a bit with only 4 downdraft Weber carburettors this time!

For 1967, there were these Alfa Romeo 2600 Berlinas.  There was no estate in the range, so they cut-down saloons as well.  The far more plentiful and less expensive FIAT 2300 had an estate body in the range and was only 15bhp down on the Alfa 2600...   but Italians and their 'bella figura', eh!

Modelled by Gulp in resin at 1:43

There is also a Gulp model of a 2600 Sprint body conversion!  That's a shorter wheelbase coupe body....

Not found any t'interweb photos of the real thing, if it existed, but that as standard did have 150bhp.  A far cry from the 290bhp in the Dueporte though

Because we're completely gutting the new house, it feels like I'm up at the dump about twice a day - carloads of broken plasterboard, torn up floor tiles, broken-down kitchen cabinets, water-damaged insulation, concrete rubble from the crumbling patio, rotten wood from down the side of the garage, roots from dead trees, endless conifer clippings from the out-of-control hedges, and cardboard packaging from the new kitchen components and flooring... luckily it's only a mile or so up the road.

I always have to check the recycling skips whenever I'm up there, for fear someone's thrown a load of diecast in (not that I'd be able to do very much about it). Thankfully though, I never have - I did encounter a large quantity of Superquick model buildings chucked into the cardboard recycling once, but they were sun-bleached and quite damaged; it looked like they'd been glued down to a railway layout baseboard.

I've related this before, but when I was very young (like four or five) I had a number of vivid dreams concerning huge skips full of diecast up at the dump, and my frantic efforts to try to 'rescue' as many as possible.

In one such dream - where some workmen were burying a large crate of diecast beneath the swings at Ward Park - I managed to grab a cream-coloured Corgi Juniors Volvo 245 and a yellow Matchbox Datsun 126X from the crate and make off across the park with them. When I woke up, I could still feel them in my hands... and for a brief second thought I'd actually managed to bring them out of the dream with me. But then the sensation faded, and even though I searched the whole bed, there were no cars...

It was kind of my very own 'Snowman' moment...

Death and The Snowman | These Widow's Shoes

I didn't even have a cream-coloured Volvo or yellow Datsun at the time - though I do now.

I can also remember going up to the dump with my father once, and someone handing me a roughly 1/24 scale plastic orange car with rubber tyres out of a skip - no idea what became of it after that, though. It wasn't a General Lee replica, though - some light internet detective work suggests it was possibly a Buddy L 'Rev Em Up' Racer?

Image result for toy car 1980s buddy l trans-am

When I was about seven or eight I also managed to find a great big stack of Broons and Oor Wullie annuals thrown into an overflowing skip, and sneaked them all back to the car.

However, on returning home triumphantly with my 'treasure', my mother noticed that there were little specks all over the pages... little moving specks.

Paper mites! Absolutely crawling with them.

They all went straight back up to the dump again.

Can confirm that the fellas who work up at the dump do tend to have a sixth sense... they're super-helpful and suddenly at my elbow whenever I've some lengths of redundant copper pipe to chuck, more than happy to save me the trip over to the metals skip; yet weirdly less so whenever I'm trying to grapple 50kg of muddy tree root out of the car and over the rail into the garden waste skip...

The Spot-On 1100 is here!

So, what do we reckon for a total of £9.75 (posted)? Did I get a bit of a bargain or a bit a turd?

If I’m honest… I like it! I think that’s got to be worth just under a tenner all day long.
There’s no casting damage. Glazing is all there and has only the tiniest bit of red paint on which should come off. All wheels & tyres are good. Bonnet present, secure and working. Flexomatic suspension works. It’s good really.
On the negative side, both bumpers are broken and headlights are missing. Roof rack missing. Paint work is even more breathtaking in real life I can assure you! Little Johnny really worked his masterpiece right here!

Anyone know of or have any better bumpers and headlights…?

Colour suggestions??

I've just had a little look on ebay for you.  The grille, front bumper and headlights are one unit, and I haven't found one for sale (yet), repro or otherwise.  What I have found is that you got a good deal!  The cheapest examples online are a tenner plus post.

With that white (ish) interior, perhaps dark green would work?

I've been after the MG 110 but it's hopeless, always outbid near £20 for wrecks.  Then they reappear weeks later at £40+ untouched

I like the MG one too, the little Matchbox one is also nice. Must be that big fancy grill that does it!

Good shout! A nice dark green, possibly non metallic as it’s a lowly Morris! 2 tone would have been nice but weren’t the Morris ones only single colour?

I'd be in two minds whether to restore that or not. On one hand, it's a Stevie Wonder paintjob. On the other, it's unique and it would make me smile because it's so bizarre. The paintwork tells a story too.

I feel similarly with the VeeDub bus I had from you a while back. It would look lovely in shiny, immaculate paint but the patina, although quite extreme, draws me to it even more. It's been a loved toy, probably a long time ago. I'm not sure I can bring myself to pull it apart!

Pretty much, yes.  Connaught is the green you're looking for if you want the authentic shade, but Humbrol has a green that's close enough.

I remember that one! I nearly kept it tbh!
Agree with you on the worn look. I do like them like that, looking like a much loved and played with toy. The only thing it probably do with that VW is find a way to replace the centre screen pillar. Did it already have tyres on it when I sold it? I don’t remember!

I’ve probably got some Humbrol dark green that’d work. Maybe a coat of satin varnish after to give it a subtle shine.

You do have the opportunity now though to do what you want.  Take a look the Riley brochures

Riley Kestrel had window-up second colour

Or the MG, as the colour splits from front to rear at mid-height and does not have the front kick back kink like the similar Wolseley
