oman5
I'd run it. I've had a few tragically gutless diesels (sierra 2.3, ldv 200 perkins 2.0, fiesta courier van with retro fitted 1.6d engine, cavalier mk2 1.6d) so long as you don't mind changing down on hills and know what you're letting yourself in for they're fine. DodgyBastard
I'm definitely buying it! I already have this 2l petrol estate which I love! Cavcraft and ProgRocker
Cavcraft
Oh dear God, that is lush. Best colour they came in to, always thought they looked really posh.
ProgRocker
Suddenly remembered those rectangular badges on the bootlids of these. Silver and black reading 'Turbo Intercooler' I think they were on Astra mark 3s and late Cavaliers too. If that slow, I wonder if this Carlton 2.3 TD will have a similar 'sailing a boat' feel I experienced with my Escort n/a dizzler?
DodgyBastard
After a think about it over the weekend I've decided not to buy it, If anyone wants it for 300 I can pass the owners details on. Really I wanted the heater blower and some trim bits, if I could guarantee that I'd be able to sell it on I'd buy it and take the bits I need. Lacquer Peel
I like rubbish old diesels, but it's too grim even for me. dugong
willswitchengage
I'm puzzled, so is this a rare GM own brand diesel in there? The Frontera should have had an Isuzu engine and wiki doesn't say they got a 2.3D.

Luckythirteen
I was thinking Fronteras had a '2.8 TD' badge on the back, but LP has covered that.Is there a thread about your petrol estate one? The diesel one looks lovably grim, right enough!
rml2345
If that Carlton still has sills behind those covers I'd be mega surprised.
DodgyBastard
If that Carlton still has sills behind those covers I'd be mega surprised. It doesn't have much that hasn't been welded or isn't rusty but the appeal for me was the long mot and taking some trim off for mine... Mine is actually fairly rot free having spent most of its life in Oxford not being used.
Six-cylinder
Working as Sales Manager for a Vauxhall dealer, after a 2 Ltr petrol Carlton Estate I had a 2.3 Turbo diesel new in 93/94, what a disappointment the diesel was no better on fuel than the 2 Ltr petrol car and such a slow noisy car with an engine from a past era even then. Bearing in mind I only keep my cars max of six months it still seemed a long time and I persuaded my boss to let me swap it for a spare Calibra 16V we had. Horror of horrors my Calibra was sold before the Carton and I had to have the Carton TD back for a while until eventually it was sold. It was replaced by a Carton 2.0i GL Auto saloon in Frost blue, it was a car we had not been able to sell from the showroom but I liked it very much. brickwall and Cavcraft
