My employer have stubbornly kept me on throughout this Coronavirus epidemic.

I feel extremely guilty taking a wage for very little exertion. Feeling guilty is to me, more draining than a good days work, without any of the fulfilment or satisfaction.

It's an absolute credit to you that you feel this way and I totally understand what you're saying.  Maybe look at it a different way though; you're being paid to be on standby, if something comes up then you will get right on it but in the meantime just get on with doing what you like around the house.  Maybe set an alarm every 30 minutes, check your messages and get back to it.

Let your employer make the decision about whether your wages are justified, if you're doing what's asked, i.e. be available then there's nothing to feel guilty about.

Can you set up your work email on your phone, so it pings straight away? I have mine set up in a work profile, so when it gets to 1600 the application is disabled until 0800 the next day.  Then you can get on with your life, on standby.

Oh yeah, the road tax is due next month as well, another £300 odd. Means I have had the car a whole year.  Where the fuck does the time go? seems like I only just got the sodding thing.

Pay it monthly

Got an e-mail from the AA for my car insurance, inviting me to renew. Could I open the attachments? Could I fuck!

Every time I tried it crashed my laptop or opened endless pages that I couldn't stop. I got a tad annoyed!

In high dudgeon, I phoned them and was getting more and more irate with every recorded message, just asked him to PLEASE tell me what my renewal is!

Last year was about £200 and this year £279. Not too bad I thought but have a try for a discount, got it down to £229 for the year fully com with protected no claims etc.

Happy with that so renewed there and then. Not worth the hassle of the Meerkats or the fat singer. so for another year, all my eggs are in the AA's basket - car insurance and breakdown cover.

what with paying out £156 to the vet the other day, spending another £40 on supplements for her legs and this, I am now skint and I still need to get the brakes done.

I've been with admiral for the last 3 years, they've been alright to be fair.

I did search around the last time and I thought I was going to change until I rang them saying I wanted to cancel the DD but they dropped their price.

Can't complain really.

Breakdown is with the AA. I pay for the garage parts and labour one with a discount through work, I think it works out as 16 per month.

It paid for itself when the C5 shat it's alternator and had to be towed to a garage. I think I only paid the excess for a new battery and an alternator and accessory belt fitted, about 50 quid or so. Good at the time cos it was a week after Christmas and I was skint.

Don't like paying the car tax monthly, just something else for me to worry about if I did. Pay the car tax and insurance yearly then I know it's been done.

I've always had a £40/50 buffer for car insurance renewals, any less and it's almost not worth the time to go elsewhere (unless they've fucked me off for some reason the previous year)

Although the last few years I've not had a car long enough to renew... Or I renew then change the car 2 months later so need a whole different price anyway

The annoyance of this is that nobody on furlough is required to take any of theirs, so will return with a full quota and my punishment for "working" through will be a depleted holiday balance.

This should not be the case.  Later guidance is that leave should be taken during furlough (at 100% salary while on leave), specifically to avoid this problem.

This is a mixed grumpy & happy thread, but mostly grumpy so I'll put it here.

Found a couple of partworns for the back of the Laguna which I got from @bramz7 at the weekend.

They were £25 posted, plus I had a voucher for £10 if I used the eBay app.

Ordered on Sunday,& they turned up yesterday which was a nice surprise.Plenty of tread too.

Took half a day off today, took the wheels off,& took them to be fitted.

The 1st tyre went on easily, probably too easily as my fitter had to double check.it was the right size.He inflated it though.

2nd tyre went on even easier, but wouldn't inflate, the sidewall just seemed really soft.

My fitter said that he he thought the bead was knackered on the 2nd tyre,& didn't recommend putting the 1st one either.

I managed to find another place locally that did partworns,he said he had a couple in the correct size.

Went over there,& ended up getting a couple of Toyos which looked hardly used for £70 fitted.

At this point I was quite happy,& went home in the sweltering heat to put them back on.

The 1st one was fine,so onto the 2nd one.

Put it on,lowered it to the ground,& went to tighten them up.

One nut seems to be taking a long time to tighten up,I'll check the others.

Another nut is the same, take it back out,& half of the thread from the hub comes with it.I'd only done it up with the short wheelbrace that came with the car.

At this point I got really fed up,threw everything back in the boot,& went back to my fitter/mechanic to see how much a new hub made out of cheese would be.

He says he can probably Helicoil it on Saturday & it shouldn't take too long so fingers crossed.

Currently at home thinking about how I'm going to feel tomorrow morning after drinking more than I do on a weekend night,at least I should sleep well ?

This gets better. The seller has agreed to a refund if I send the tyres back

He sent me a label to print out,it was for Royal Mail 48hour,0-2 kg.

I don't think it's going to end well ?

That's what my phone has been promising for a few days. Until this afternoon and now just more of the same tomorrow.

Currently making use of having a sprog so am sitting in the garden with my feet in their paddling pool. My only drinking on weekend hasn't survived the feeling of being done over having been promised a storm, but I'm not regretting this cold beer.

Send a picture of the tyres, eBay only check you have posted it. I found this out the hard way as a seller, one of the reasons I don’t use them anymore.

Similar feelings but towards the staff who are shielding/working at home, they may as well be furloughed as there is little they can do and it falls on the few staff in the workplace ( such as me) to do their practical work on top of my own, I get 2.5 days a week to work from home but am that fucked from the previous 2.5 days it's doing me in. I'm not sure what the score is with them and their leave balance when they return but if it's not balanced I'll be unhappy

Similarly it's starting to grate on me seeing all the garden transformations furloughed people are doing and how fucking wonderful it is, wonderful days in the park, picnics with their kids on the beach, sucking up all the bargains now shops are re-opening......I know I sound like a right miserable twat and  I know jobs are going to be lost for many, I feel bad for saying it but I've worked like a bastard right through this and been exposed to very high levels of C19 risk ( NHS ) I think I'm just getting a bit worn out to be honest.

I've re read this and now accept I sound a complete twat but if there can be a way of throwing some additional paid leave at all keyworkers when the dust settles it may benefit their wellbeing long term, I don't want extra cash as I chose my career and all that comes with it.

Fair play for giving a shit when loads of people don't.

I know it's about as much use as tits on a nun but you've got the rest of your life to work. Nothing wrong with enjoying a brief respite/quiet time.

What kind of IT work do you do? Have you got any side projects on the go?

I was furloghed because the company would have gone bust if they hadn't,and when the scheme ends,I likely won't have a job to go back to.equally I haven't been going out or to the beach or doing any garden work either :-)

Been working my arse off too since the Covid.

Had an R&D project close to FDA submission so have been using everything I can to keep it on track, as launching the new product is going to be really important to the company.

Covid has made life even more difficult as some tw@ts are ‘working’ from home with nothing better to do than create huge emails and hold Zoom meetings. Making the time for real work even harder.

Flying is difficult so have just driven 900+ miles each way (rental car thank goodness) to do some product testing at a specialist test facility this week, losing Sunday (Father’s Day) for me and driving for 30 hrs. Not to mention the stress of watching the testing and hoping nothing fails.

On the plus side, we are all being forced into vacation next week, which means that the bloody emails (from the US at least) should stop for a while.

Posted

Just the other day I parked my car outside of my flat for about an hour and a half while I was having dinner, and someone dinged the bloody bootlid. Still pissed off about it. Car lasts 25 years without body damage and then it gets dinged within a week of me buying it. No idea how that sort of damage could even occur either. Gonna have to paint the spoiler now. ?

PBIS... go fuck yourselves.  I have insured the TR7 engined Toledo with these cunts for about 3 years now, declaring the engine change. Now they decide that they don't want to provide cover at all. Go fuck yourselves. Been waiting since 9.30 to hear back.

I will never ever use these cunts again if they are the last insurance company in the universe.

I now have an uninsured car on the road, no room in the lock up as there is an engine hoist in there with the other Toledo engine swinging from it.

Anyone want a 4 door Toledo.

Am utterly sick of the whole fucking classic car bollocks.

Spent some time yesterday looking at my neighbour's Boxster.

It seems he forgot to pop the bonnet before it was laid up.

This wouldn't normally be an issue as it has the peg for attaching a jump lead to in order to unlock the car and pop the catch, only on this one the central locking is goosed so it refuses to open the bonnet still.

I also tried charging it though the 12v socket to no avail.

My next plan is to pull the carpet and firewall panel off and see if I can attach a trickle charger directly to the alternator.

There should be a wire cable tucked behind the front bumper you can pull to release the bonnet latch.

And so it begins.  I've been representing members (online) through redundancy consultation meetings every day for the past week, and they show no sign of letting up.

Disciplinaries?  They never stopped...

Getting fucked off with work the last week.  I'm still working full-time from home, doing my full job remotely and treating it like I'm in the office.  Taking breaks at the usual times and usual lengths and doing my usual workload.  Not so my immediate colleagues, it would seem.  I keep picking up the slack and sorting out their mistakes.  I made a couple of my own the other day because I was stressed out but I've got back on it.  My boss only points it out to me because it's unusual that I do.

Going back in next Tuesday and suddenly the rest of my team are going to have to pick it the fuck up when I'm not doing my 'usual' job for a bit.  A few of us are going back on site to get things ready for a full-time return and I won't be doing my normal job...

Took the modern to WBAC yesterday and moved it on for a decent enough price. So does all my paperwork and there is a couple of chaps my age waiting. They are getting rid of their recently deceased dads  almera. 1.5 petrol 51 plate. So gets chatting and it was owned by the dad since new , serviced and mot every year at same village garage. 45,000 miles. Usual giffer dints and scrapes but sounded fine and overall not bad at all. So quick plan in my head was to hang around see what they get offered and gazump dealer with better offer. So get that sell celica and have back up four door cheap motor for tip and general messing about with. Anyway dealer takes forever and I give chao my number has I have to go . I say I will give him £230.00 cos that's what was mentioned. So WBAC offer him £250.00 and his mum accepts because she didn't want any messing and car gone. Fair enough says I.  But kicking myself now that I should have offered £300.00 . Never mind. It will appear on a bomb site dealers soon for £995.00
