I think every second counts for the likes of these delivery drivers, probs to the extent that 40 seconds to walk down a path and back, is 40 seconds wasted. Faking signatures is an old trick, it's amazing how easy it is to get away with in certain circumstances! It doesn't excuse drivers lobbing parcels over walls, leaving on door steps for everyone to see etc of course, but I expect they've decided that one or two official complaints aren't too much trouble for them, compared to running late or missing deliveries.

Minor irritant compared to some on here, but the motor on my lathe went up in smoke this morning.

Motors are expensive and can be difficult to wire for idiots like me it seems.

I'll take it off some day and read the label.

No they've been a pound for at least a year if not a bit longer. No special offer type promo.

It will be to put them at a higher price for 30 days so they can then reduce them and claim it is a special offer I reckon.

As anyone who has ever done delivery work will tell you, this is largely the case. You're targeted for an often unachievable number of drops per hour and one traffic snarl-up can totally fuck up your entire day.

Also, how many of these deliveries are actually paid for? I'm sure most of us will always seek out the 'free delivery' option when we're buying online but that Transit van isn't free and the poor sod driving it will be wanting some kind of remuneration at the end of their stressed 10 hour shift so it's no wonder the actual service is often shite.

Even if I do go for free delivery I always try to ensure it's Royal Mail so there is at least SOME chance it'll get here in one piece and if I'm not in  it'll just get sent back to the local depot two streets away instead of some warehouse 30 miles out out of town in some scabby industrial estate.

The V70 D5 has an injector rattle under load, during acceleration. I've been swapping No4 injector as it seems to be this one that's making the noise. The last injector I fitted made no difference but had a very low leak back test so I've decided to leave it in. Unfortunately I've installed it incorrectly as it's now getting slight blow-by meaning the copper sealing washer is leaking. No problem, i'll just replace it and reseat it. Can I get the two small T30 bolts out? Can I BOLLOCKS.  I don't remember over tightening them, but I must've as they're now stuck tight.

OBV I've buggered about with them to the extent that both heads are nicely chewed up and I've now got zero hope of getting them out. The leak is slight and the car is still perfectly driveable so i'll just forget about it until I can bring myself to weld a nut onto the top of each of the stuck bolts and get them out that way.

Turns out lots of D5 engines make this weird rattle under load and it's seen as  just one of those things. They'll happily run for years with noisy injectors and most owners just put up with it, meaning the whole escapade was totally pointless anyway.

One time we had an amazon package placed in the recycling bin... unfortunately it was recycling day and it was taken away with the rest of the cardboard!!

Thankfully we got our money back for that one!

Stents are wonderful;  I had mine done about 18 years ago and the next morning I felt supercharged and raring to go but was told you have a fortnight off work, SAD.  I think the insertion of the stents is easier than it was those years ago, and for me it was no worse than a trip to the dentist. The stents lasted me until about two years ago when further furring up slowed me down again;  I had a further angiogram two months back and was a bit set back by being told it was surgery not more stents and it would be sometime between September 2019 and September 2020 for the operations, bypasses and valve replacement.  Good news received yesterday  - rather than a long wait to be done in Plymouth I'm lined up for 4th October in a private hospital in Cheam - (Mrs K may be boarding out in Railway Cutting).

Hopefully Mrs T will have as good an experience with stents as I had, and if not she will soon be referred on by the overstretched NHS to a private hospital to be bypassed.

Expand

She was told today that she will be going to St Barts tomorrow for the angiogram. She'll be gone all day. It'll seem strange not to be doing my usual two runs to the hospital

That's not good, Steve!  But hopefully far enough away from the sidewall to be repairable?

And now, over to our medical correspondent, who reports that kidney stone #3 is making itself known at Chaseracer Towers.  OUCH.

Applying for jobs.

I really should apply directly, instead of through agencies, but it seems like a lot of companies are using agencies. The joy* of this is that you see a listing on s1jobs and it's just the agency name, not the actual company who are looking for somebody.

I applied for 4 jobs advertised by the same agency this afternoon, and the representative got back to me pretty quickly as they're somebody I've dealt with before.

2 of them were positions I interviewed for roughly this time last year and didn't get, and one was a position I interviewed for only in July! I still remember that one, and I thought the guy interviewing me was a bit odd, he'd only been with the company 9 months and seemed to want somebody who would do pretty much everything, at any hour. Seems like he's having a lot of luck finding somebody, eh?

The mind boggles.

You have my deepest sympathy. I've now got a collection of five of those little bastards in a pot. Only about 7mm but shaped like mini-fucking-meteorites with tiny little jagged edges.

0 star rating, do not recommend, would not use again.

In an attempt to fix our partially broken telephone and Internet, I made this!

Since the voice line extension was fucked I left it out of the socket. This works and hopefully won't be needed tomorrow when the filter faceplate comes in the mail.

I don't know why anybody, business or individual specs a new vehicle without A/C today

Whatever it costs will be recovered in the resale value , I wouldn't buy a used car without it unless it was a classic or convertible.

A mate of mine bought a base spec dacia sandero without it for his wife , I think he said the one with a/c  was £500 more

I know what would've been said in our house if I'd made that decision :D

Expand

me mam has done that TWICE! on each of the nissan micra's she has bought new, she has specifically omitted the a/c "cos its just something else to go wrong"

and it saved a few hundred quid on the car. another reason why both were in cheapest solid white, the only colours that they came in that didn't cost any more.

mother couldn't give a toss about climate change, the bottom line on the road price of the car was more important.

plus as mother will keep the current one until she gives up driving (she is now 70) so resale value will not be an issue. the last one covered  18000 miles in 7 years.......

I was asked to do 10 minutes talk at an awards ceremony last night about my achievements. Being it is my new employer I said yes and wished I hadn't.

It was free bar with free food. I was at the end of the session when I stood between them and the free bar. About 200 people there who were either employers or parents of the winners - so had no interest in my achievements.

Wasn't my finest 10 minutes as I hate talking about myself and the jokes in it didn't go down well. Nothing quite like 200 people just staring at you silently.

Oh well ... Next time (not that I am invited back) will be a no I think .

Applying for jobs is fucking grim.  I haven't used my brain in five years and I'm looking for something that might stretch me a bit... narrowed it down.

I got offered a job a few months ago but turned it down because I would have been worse off, even though the base pay was higher I was travelling three times as far.  Feeling like I should have just taken the fucker anyway...

Posted

I wasn't partaking of free bar cause a) I wasn't told in advance so drove and 2) was presenting and thought I might end up making an idiot of myself ( which with hindsight probably was best plan!)

Telly adverts.  Some are positive gems (Talk to me, Katowski!) but most are just shit.  And has it now become illegal to cast a family for an advert who are all of the same racial origin?

There... that's both sides of the topic covered.

Royal fucking mail! Waiting for a tracked parcel to arrive, it seems to be being shunted back & forth between sorting offices for 2 days now. It was only 4 miles from my house yesterday, now it's at North Tyneside!

Underground engineer came round to fix our telephone problem. No, couldn't do it because it's under a manhole... in the middle of the fecking road. At least TalkTalk has now set all calls to the house to divert to a mobile phone.

At what point do you give up on a purchase...

Car was advertised as having a full MoT , however it has a fail in August with no retest. Not to worry the seller said, it was in the garage being finished off...

An agreement was made to view on Thursday however the car was still showing as not MoTd... nope the garage haven’t finished it she says. It’ll be done by close. Not willing to travel without it being done we agreed to go today. In the meantime a late test appears with another fail. I message the seller. They’ve put it through and it’s failed she explains. They’re getting the parts and doing it today. But the bill looks like it’s going to be as much as I’m asking for the car!

Today comes and nope still no MoT showing. This time “the garage ordered the wrong brake shoes so haven’t been able to complete it...”

It seems as if this garage are properly giving her the run around...

We’re wondering whether to wait for it or not... I’m getting the feeling she’s becoming reluctant to sell having spent nearly the asking on repairs.

Could be a good deal, but worrying if it's the same garage who did the test, did the repairs and then fail it again! Probably depends how how easy it is to find another..

That’s the thing... it could be in our favour that a few bits have been done, I sadly fear that the garage have seen a girl and ripped her off a bit...

Unless it's some weapons grade that you really want, it doesn't sound worth bothering with tbh.

Well, it's finally happened. Got given my marching orders at work. So need to be applying for jobs again.

Reasons are of performance at work and apparently being frequently away from my desk which is a lie. Regarding my "performance" at work; I was given no pointers, help or even an idea of what they meant by "performance" with regards to this.

My manager left himself as he was tired of being bullied by cunting boss twat.

I won't let this one lie.

However, on a happier note, my wife passed her English test so hopefully I can get the visa done and sent before the end of the month.

I bought an Impreza under similar circumstances a few years ago.  The seller stumped up nearly the asking price on welding repairs and was a bit upset about it, but stayed still on price and I didn't gloat.  It was a good purchase as a result.  I'd stick it out and not add a messing around buyer to her problems.

i was talking to my joiner/plasterer mate yesterday. He's quite a car nut. He's pcp'd cars for a few years now and after handing a couple back, swapping them and other bad decisions he's now paying £400 a month for a 2013 gashqai. It's the old shape as well. Just under 3 years to go as well although he can hand it back half way through with more penalties....

Fuck that for a laugh.
