A bloke from openreach or whatever came to our house at 8am to fiddle with the phone socket to make the internet work. According to my wife who was home at the time, he was a very pleasant bloke apart from the fact that he stank to high heaven and then asked to use our downstairs loo and left our house smelling like unwashed genitals.

ten hours later, I've just walked through the door and our house still stinks like pickled testicles. It's fuckin lousy!

Had exactly the same with Openreach just last week! Nice bloke but crikey, the smell…

Recently I was being constantly tailgated in the Jazz by a bloke in (inevitably) an Audi, so when we came up to a junction and it was clear ahead I got fed up, booted it and left him quite a way behind.  I think he was very surprised at how quickly the Jazz took off!

my crewmate did this to a bwm in his Jizz sport (the 1.5 130bhp one) his new hybrid one can do similar if needed😁

Clearly I must have the exception to the rule with my Evri driver, as the lass who delivers round my way appears to be driving a fairly smart looking and apparently completely legal newer Meriva.

Ours has been the same for a couple of years now . Same woman , newish van . Before that it was a variety of people in private cars, including a 17 year old ( friend of my son), in his mum’s car.

Imagine that, waiting in all day and Dirty Dick not even turning up!

On the subject of courier insurance, I think a lot of self employed, zero hour contract workers using their own car, or whatever category they fall under, will come unstuck one day as they believe they are insured when they may not be

I believe evri offer "bolt on" insurance but a lot of the time this is contents insurance only for the parcels! So if they have an accident and they have a normal SDCP policy then they are snookered

I think in those cases, tax/MOT is the least of their worries :(

I'm more on about the people doing it as a sideline using their own car. Those who have a car/van dedicated to it with it being more or less their full time income probably have it all above board

You'd be surprised, the two companies I do the bulk of my work for are really on the ball, they both email me for an update of my insurance policies every year when they are due for renewal. No probs my end, just email them the PDF back.

I was talking to the transport manager at one of the firms earlier this year and was very surprised to hear that a few subbys didn't have the correct type of insurance, they had been altering SD&P policies with PDF editors. It had got so bad that they were forwarding the insurance details to there own insurers who looked into how correct the policies are. The sharp compliance checking all came about due to £250k of computer equipment being delivered that disappeared and a mis-placed £900k airplane door! The door was found but the computer equipment was never found to my knowledge.

It makes you wonder why the Police don’t come down hard on these people. It’s an easy arrest surely waiting outside McDonalds at pretty much any given time and pull all these doing the deliveries to check the insurance.

TLDR; PRINTERS ARE FUCKING SHIT!! I've got 5, none of them worked properly to start with, I've got two working for now but three destined for the skip 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

I have a Canon Printer that I bought 13 years ago. Works fine but I have keep my old very slow Windows 10 PC because it's not compatible with the current PC that run Windows 11.

I could buy a new printer that is compatible with 11 but I use the printer so infrequently these days that it seems like a waste of money and effort. Might be better to send whatever attachment I need to print off to my work email and print it off there. I have an issue with clutter at home so I don't want 2 printers, never mind 5 of them!

Make a windows 7/10 vm just for your printer?

I had a beautiful huge old hp office laser jet, the big tall multifunction units. Was utterly amazing (and free with many toners) but firmly in the windows 2000 era.

Once I'd got a vm up, got into it'd web portal and set it up to read from a shared folder it was amazing, drag, drop, printer wakes up!

Same with scanning (why I got it, was the cheapest way to get an a3 scanner) I could jsut sit there turning pages and it filled up said folder.

Was a shame when I ran out of space to keep it 😢

Does it not work with generic windows drivers? I've got an early 2000s flatbed a3 scanner now (£140 flipping quid used) and it won't install its drivers in 11 but windows fax and scan works fine with it. Generic pcl print drivers not do the trick?

It's possible to get around any checks at all for the food delivery services (deliveroo etc) by signing up as a bicycle and driving your fucked old jazz anyway.

I need to investigate this further. I did consider having the old HP Windows 10 PC set up in my spare bedroom once I can acquire an extra monitor.

I asked that question in the site help topic and was suggested to clear cookies. Didn't work, still does it. Quite annoying given the length of some of the pages on here and the time it takes to scroll up to the top of a pic heavy post, even on a fast fibre connection.

Cookies cleared when browser is closed, when OS is closed and also wiped daily with BleachBit.

Can't be that.

Had something sell on ebay the other week. Did the postage and off it went. Was quite rare and fragile (old Hoover)

Message earlier "it's not turned up"... OK check the tracking and jesus, 4 missed deliveries 1 refused, it was in London now it's in aldershot... Fuck.

Turns out twattage here put the wrong address in... Last update was the 15th, I've fired a pleading email off to parcel monkey in the hope they can have it flicked back to me, most of me hopes it's already on the way back with the return address but fuck.

A refund on that is going to hurt, hoping to fuck it turns back up here safe and sound and I can send it back out correctly again

Feckin' grumpy....
Wife has her insurance on a Bini - fully comp policy was £160
Looking to transfer it to another (identical) Bini just one year younger - £77 extra on the policy plus £20 admin fee?

The £20 I get but £77? Eh?

"Ah, well, it's newer, isn't it - so it's worth more in the event of a claim."

Actual quote from the Admiral customer service rep when queried about the extra £80 added, after I rang up to transfer the insurance from my 1996 Renault Laguna 1.8 over to my 1998 Renault Laguna 1.8.

They just pull it out of their arse...

I've had a cold/cough/snots for nearly 4 weeks now. Got antibiotics in the end, just getting to the end, feeling a bit better - just normal-time-of-year snottyness, only one proper coughing fir in the last 24 hours.

Tidying my desk tonight, I've found peanuts.

Yeah, that was a good idea, I'm on the sofa tonight again then.

Twat.

Ah the quality VW infotainment and heater controls, just how shit is it long term? I thought it was a terrible GUI on the hire cars I've had.

Things were very difficult at first but I adapted soon enough. It’s like when Hovis brought out a white sliced loaf, folk soon got to grips

Bloody Parcel Force.

Got a parcel coming internationally with a bunch of car parts, and there's a customs charge to pay.  That's no surprise, I was fully expecting it.

What's fscking annoying is that I now need to wait for a physical letter to arrive from them with a reference number on, which is posted second class based on last time I went through this, before I can pay the charges online and have my parcel (which is sitting in a depot less than a mile away) released.

Why can't they just use the same reference number used to track the thing, or even better send me the info through by email...they already have my email address as they merrily sent me an email to tell me the parcel was in the country.

So close to making that progress simple and efficient...yet so far.

I'm going to run by the depot later today and see if they can do anything based on the tracking number but I'm not holding my breath.  Just would be really nice to not have to wait until January for this.

You may remember that I bought an exhaust from Powerflow the other day. I was chatting and grumbled that many parts for Rover 75 were all but extinct and he told me that a local Nissan DEALER had brought them a 2016 plate Micra - a six year old car - as they couldn't get a back box for it from Nissan. I suspect that it was down to supply chain issues, but it's still a bit shit isn't it.

Dickheads on illegal electric bikes

Some knobhead riding an electric bike on a shared path with families on it, I was doing 30 and this cunt was faster than me, not pedalling

I've no idea why they don't get confiscated, 35 in a 30 in a car and they'll have you but riding uninsured on the path at 35mph, cart on

One of the younger engineers where I work is on the Electric Truck project and comes to work on an electric bike. I've suggested his career should not move into Homologation, where confirming the design meets legislation is the main objective. Get it wrong and fines are high.

He's modified his bike, which is bloody obvious because I followed him out of work once, and down a road with a 40 mph speed limit. I could not keep up.

I feel the stupidity of youth has overwhelmed his massive brain. No helmet, no insurance, not road legal in so many ways.

Still he has lights.
