Question re.  Honda Generator - GX240, 242cc : Carburettor / Float / Needle valve

attachicon.gifP1300435 Honda Generator.jpg

This Honda generator of mine leaks petrol from its carburettor. The carburettor is overflowing.

Suspecting a bit of grit under the needle valve I took the carb off and found the needle valve seating well (there is no adjustment). But the petrol leaks from between the (fleshy coloured) plastic valve seat and the diecast aluminium.

attachicon.gifP1300434s.jpg

The aluminium housing has dovetails to locate and hold the plastic valve seat, so I suspect the assembly will not come apart without breaking the plastic. So my question is :  Is there any chemical I might paint into the joint between the two parts that will seal it, and which will also withstand constant petrol saturation. ?

My thinking is that only epoxy resin might possibly do this.  But I thought I'd ask the forum to see if there was a better solution.

Thanks, Bfg.

P.S.  Anyone know what this generator is worth on the open market.??  It's rated at 3.5 Kw., and supplies 220v/ 15.9 amp or 110v / 31.8 amp, so it ought to be good for use with on-site power tools &/or for market traders, etc.  The motor sounds in great condition. It has electric or hand start (12v battery not included when I sell it)..  I bought it for my boat, but it's rather too heavy for a small sailing catamaran.  I've owned it about seven or eight years and barely been used it.  Last time was power outage to run lighting and the TV for a couple of hours one evening.  Before that it was lent to the local nursing home when they had a black-out for a couple of days.  Cheers.

Sorted  (..I hope !)

I've found another possibility as I was sorting through what I had on the shelf, that being POR-15 petrol tank sealer.

It's painted on now and sitting on a radiator to harden.

I don't know whether it will work, because the tin I have of it was bought in the States, and I came back from there in 1999. I'd probably bought it for one of the cars I had at that time .. the MGA or the Jag XK150s ..mind you it might have been for the BSA Thunderbird.  As the tin was never opened I'm hoping it'll be fine, after all what's a little 20-25 year shelf-life between friends.!

Surely it would earth by the others if they were ok?

I have just buzzed it out , the mounting points are just that , nothing else ...  pheww !!

the whole thing contains 2 sets of coils

the primaries share a common earth ( middle pin ) and the outer pins are each primary ,

the secondary's have a terminal to each plug ( so a wasted spark system )

Bet Egg could get a Reg No. off that chassis number ;)

Has anyone got any experience of SEPA payments? How can you do it from the Uk? I have found a throttle body for the Pug in the Netherlands for sensible money but the want paying by SEPA if possible.

SEPA. Yeah dead easy. PM me if you want it doing for you.

I have replied to your message, just awaiting confirmation form the selller and will be in touch. Thanks mate.

Transferwise has worked ok for me re: overseas payments.

Question - a shiter always needs a big supply of microfibre cloths - I tend to buy piecemeal and overpay as a result. Where's the best place to bulk buy at a reasonable cost/quality point? Ta.

What’s the best/cheapest breakdown cover out there - preferably to cover me as opposed to a specific car? Used to be with autoaid but they seem to have gone up in price recently? Or maybe that’s the going rate?

Does best= cheapest?

I think autoaid is highly recommended here. Do you have any with your bank account??

Autoaid is less than £50 a year and have been excellent when I used them and couldn't have been better when Chuck needed recovered.

As my Haynes book of mechanical falsehoods is packed, bottom ball joints on bugeye Corolla - are they individual units or does whole wishbone need replacing?

Bit late - missed this - sorry

Single European Payment Authority/ization… etc....

ibancalculator.com - enter your account number and sort code...…. it'll give you the IBAN and BIC - copy them and make your payment for EU - or any international actually.

I've linked a few of the vendors on here to it as I've had to calculate the IBAN and BIC so I could purchase the quality rammel on offer here.

If you need any other help or pointers - message me fella.

I have used Start rescue for the last couple of years. I've only used them once when the 944 broke down the other week but they were really good. I reported it on my app, they got my location, rang me up and someone was with me within 20 minutes. They kept me informed all the time and rang up to check that I was happy with everything once I'd been picked up.

Dudes:

I saw a tiny car from afar.

It was from maybe the late 50’s early 60’s, styled a bit like a tiny Yank in two tone black and white with a spare tire mounted vertically on the back. It was deffo tiny and not just far away.

What was it?

I think you just push down through the slot and slide off.

This sort of idea:

Cheers, but it was different to that one.

I ended up having a rajjy at it and destroying it.

I nearly did the same to that one, but once I'd fathomed out the release mechanism, I managed to get it out in one piece.

Now I've had time, (horse bolted, but for reference like) your one looked like Huron like pinch type like this. You need to pinch it from both sides I think:

Dear Miriam,

Recently I've been getting the serious horn for a 206cc; do I have a problem?

Dear RobinMasters

No.

Deirdre (Miriam is off today)

:-D

In all honesty I don't mind the looks of the 206CC. The hatchbacks are half decent little motors, probably the last of the decent puglets IMHO, definitely in old banger shite territory, and still quite popular. Well there are quite a few in my locality.

Just have a look at a few for sale, drive them, see what you think.

Cheers for that. It was the heron type, but even after I hacked it off, the metal pipe had corroded itself into the clip and wasn't for shifting. It was leaking at the clip and I ended up dropping the tank and putting a new section of pipe on.
