JeeExEll Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 I had this problem last year with my sons 206, it didn't look too bad with the holes the MOT tester put in the sill, but under the paint and stonechip material it was very rusty most of its length, I ended up welding in a new sill. I think the problem was blocked up drain holes, when I took the old sill off it was obvious that it had been full of water, check your drain holes and full length of the sill before patching, there may not be a lot to patch to! - topic here http://autoshite.com/topic/22258-why-bother-may-contain-pictures-of-rust/page-2Thanks, will have a more brutal poke about at the Puggett's sills before I do anything. Would like to save it. But I know from years of driving old Henrys that what can initially appear to be "minor rust" can soon turn out to be hidden evil crumbly stuff playing hide-and-seek and spreading and laughing it's fucking head off in that loud echoey voice as you discover more and more and yet more of it. Ford sliding sunroofs with blocked drainholes, aaaaaaarghhh!Been a few years since I challenged the rust bastard tho, and wasn't sure if seam welded overplating was still ok, where appropriate, for mot. Thanks for replies. Will have to do something soon though as wife starting a new job and wants her 2014 Soozy Alto 1.0 3-pot back. It has under 6k on the clock from new and I've somehow completely knackered the tread on all 4 of it's previously good tiny tyres over a very short time. What a great wee car to throw about, the road seems so wide!! Very basic spec car, none of the un-necessary shit you usually have to put up with. Excellent newish autoshite. Edit, have just read your welding post Mr Austin of Englandshire, good work there. Have you posted on here re your Austin resto? Due to circumstances my Puggett will be welded this time by someone else. In the fairly near future I will once again have a garage with a roof to work in. Will be looking for a mig of my own, is the Clarke 135 still the one to have? catsinthewelder 1

NorfolkNWeigh Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 What's causing my near side headlamp to be a different colour to the others?Only noticed when my daughter was following me when I picked the Audi 100 up, it goes from yellow to pink.Presume just a bulb, but as Europarts list them at £94 I don't want to get one if it's likely to be something else. The cars done 220,000 and I think the grille and offside headlamp have been replaced at sometime so that bulb is probably newer hence not both going pink. What do we think?

Kiltox Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 I assume it's HID at that money - they do go pink as the bulbs fail NorfolkNWeigh 1
barefoot Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 My headlining is sagging a bit in the Jaaaaag. What would happen if I attempted to iron it back into place?ie. Would it be likely to soften the original glue and stick it back up? Every car I've had before has had the perforated white vinyl n wire hoops!
Asimo Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 HID lamps colour shift with age: some makes get bluer, others pinker, actual colour something to do with the exact make up of the electrodes. NorfolkNWeigh 1
Richard Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 How do you know when a Transit DMF is about to let go and what happens when it does?

Kiltox Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 It's a generic picture. All their listings have the same image. I'd go for the 70odd quid one and fit it yourself. It's only nuts and bolts and it'll come with instructions like a flat-pack wardrobe. If you can change a wheel you can fit a towbar. Hard part is usually undoing the rusted fixings for the bumper, undertray of whatever you have to take off to fit it. Shouldn't be a problem if your Trafic's newish, mind. I imagine a van's more straightforward than a car generally as they'll be designed with towing more in mind from the outset.Ordered the £70 one the other day and fitted it this evening - I had to clean up the mounting holes with a tap but apart from that it was a piece of piss as you say It's chunky and the welds look good - no complaints so far. Need to fit the electrics but I think I'm going to fit proper dual electrics like fancier caravans use rather than the basic single 7 pin that came with it worldofceri and The Moog 2
cobblers Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 How do you know when a Transit DMF is about to let go and what happens when it does?My dad had a few that were quite knackered and ground against themselves filling the bellhousing with metal filings which knacker the starter motor, never had one let go though, or even start to make that strange banging noise on idle like VW ones do. sierraman Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 Avensis is a good car, unfortunately you might be buying into a taxi, even with the petrol as they were still fairly thrifty. If it's sold through the trade, have a look at the previous owner, might give a clue as to previous taxi usage. Still though they are tough cars. Wouldn't be looking at 80k cars though, I'd save £500 and look at 150k. Chances are that's what the 80k car has done.
sierraman Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 How do you know when a Transit DMF is about to let go and what happens when it does?Used to do 40-50k a year in these, went through a DMF probably every year. Mind you that was hard use. Noise is best indicator, rattle on start up that might go or come with clutch in or out. Then the starter fills full of fillings, then it can just go at any time. Having said that they'll go for some time before it becomes a problem. The ones I had took some serious cosh so I wouldn't worry unduly. Richard and warren t claim 2
Snipes Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 Kits to convert to conventional flywheel where popular back a few years ago. I knew a load who use to do loads.
twosmoke300 Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 Not all transits had the dmf . Iirc the 85hp ones were solid flywheel from factory . Ford used to list a " heavy duty " upgrade which was a smf kit .I've fitted loads of Valeo conversions and no issues . Some of the cheap kits use unbranded clutches which don't last 5 mins .The starter packing up is usually the first sign of dmf issues on a transit because the noise gets gradually worse so the driver doesn't notice it . FakeConcern Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 How do you remove the inside rear screen on an XM? I would look in the handbook, but I can't find it!
Dave_Q Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 Possibly a very stupid question this, but anyway. I live in what most of England would call "The North." However motorway signs say things like: A1(M) The NORTH, M6 The NORTH, I have been as far north as the Newcastle and I'm sure there were still signs for A1 The NORTH. My question is, when do the signs for The NORTH stop? Scotchland? the central belt? Inverness? John O'Groats? The Moog 1
catsinthewelder Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 Isn't Scotch Corner the last one on the eastern side? After that it's signs for different cities in the North before the Edinburgh signs start. I'm far from certain though and haven't driven north through the toon (I took the tunnel).

gm Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 I got a cheque from the dvla this morning for the remaining tax on the mx5 that I sorned last week, what is odd is that I only bought the car at the start of the month, surely the tax should be refunded to the previous owner ? The cheque is in my name so I won't make a fuss FakeConcern, trigger and Supernaut 3
sierraman Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 Protect the bonnet from stonechips, inflicting worse damage caused by dirt/debris underneath them Look like a right twatI thought that. Saw one this morning on a 52 plate Zafira. Stone chips were the least of his worries. It must hold on by magnet, so I can i can imagine the paint will chafe from this.

All-round just fucking stupid. So of course the pineapple crowd love them.
cort1977 Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 Agree that they cause more trouble than they are worth in European weather, in hot/desert areas like California they may make more sense. Like so much scene stuff it just looks stupid on the M4.
