Is this the right place to ask for HELP ! re. selling a motorcycle and getting paid via Paypal ?

 

I have my bike on ebay. I have my email address on that ad, and this morning I received a query 'was it still for sale ?'

 

I thought to myself "well it's on ebay isn't it ?" but still I politely replied "it is presently still available" along with my home and mbl telephone numbers.

Unfortunately, i would not be able to come personally to collect but would send my courier agent to collect after you have fully received your money, i work offshore so i don't have time at all, but like i said i am 100% OK with the advert.

However, I will pay you via PayPal once you are ready and send my courier agent after you have received your money as that is the only means of payment available to me at the moment. I would also appreciate if you could remove the advert asap.

It seems odd to me. Had I been in that situation then I would simply have said, "Great, Thanks, Yes I'd like to buy it. I'm offshore at the moment so if it's OK then I'll pay via Paypal, and let that clear before having the bike collected from you. I will of course pay any Paypal fees. Is that OK with you "

 

..but if it is a scam then I don't know how it works.

 

Can the Paypal payment be taken back or otherwise cause me a lot of grief ? If I move the bike to another location (like the marina where my boat is) for pick-up then surely that would protect my home and other vehicles from the unscrupulous.

 

Aside from someone having to pay the Paypal fees, what do you street-wiser Autoshiters think or might advise ?

Paypal can be snatched back by spurious means.

As POD says deposit that is sufficent to seal the deal, but that if the sh*t hits the fan you could afford to lose, major balance in cash on collection.

It is however unlikely that a 'Courier Agent' would pay you cash, unless its a mate of his.

In which case he would say my mates picking it up.

 

On balance I'd be dubious.

MOT tester question does a flashing DPF warning light on a Mazda 6 fail the mot. It is basically a service light and my code reader shows no faults. The garage have failed it but it would be nice to get a second opinion.

Well this has got interesting. According to my tester as it is emmisions related it is a fail. Anyway the car went into Mazda and they have told my customer that it is a worn timing chain. This didn't really make any sense until I googled it. Mazda have had a problem with the chains for a few years and done a sneaky recall in service to set a warning when the chain gets to 10.5 degrees of wear. They didn't tell the customers this though and some have read the manual and assumed it needs an Italian tune up to regen the DPF. Not a good idea with a worn cam chain. Mazda are quoting a grand which too be honest isn't a bad price but these modern diesels are a ticking time bomb.

Picture the scene, I'm filling up my washer bottle with a winter mix and then.... Shock, a puddle seems to be emerging underneath the car

 

As I look down I can see that it's coming from this 'nipple' that sits to the rear of the washer bottle directly in between the small filter on the left and the electrical connection on the right....

 

 

Surely that's mean to to have a pipe or hose connected to it? If so, where should it lead to?

 

I shall award no less than 1000 internet to anyone who can help me to untangle this riddle and assist me in my quest

Not 100% sure (long time since I had my 760) but I think there is normally a tube that just tucks up inside the wing area, I don’t remember it attaching anywhere, I think it was just to allow air in as the fluid is pumped out.

I have no experience of these Volvo ..the last one I had was a 144 estate, but often such water bottle vents have a push on but slightly loose fitting plastic cap over them rather than a pipe.  The 'loose' fit allows venting but refrains grit from dropping into the water bottle.  This solution is neater and cheaper than the car-maker fitting and securing a pipe.   By the clean-whiteness of your (bottle's !) vent hole it looks to me as its cap spigot (even if it was a pipe) has been broken off.

Quick question, how do you use one of those snow foam wash thingies. I have the attachment for the jetwash, and a bottle of fluid but no idea how you make it all work. Is it another snake oil thing?

My friends dad called by earlier in a flap. The sons Ford Fusion needed a tyre and he had only left the spare key. It opened the door but set the alarm off. We tried all sorts and it did shut up but the hazards kept going. I've left it with the battery disconnected until he gets back with the usual key. Anybody know if the spare key can be made to work without a garage visit?

I tried it out in the week, bought some good quality liquid and gave it a go. Had that many bubbles it was worse than the time i accidentally added bubble bath to a Jacuzzi! Left it to soak onSssure washed it off, and car was still bloody filthy. Five minutes with a bucket and sponge and it looked lovely.

Is the spare just a standard key and the main one a remote? Quite common.

 

Normally the alarm will STFU after the engine is started. If it won’t start the engine the spare doesn’t have a transponder in. That’s not usually the case unless a previous owner has lost a key and got a spare on the cheap though.

I reconcile the Ford Transponder Chip keys 'in my head' as follows

Stage 1 = Key Blade Cut to code or profile = manually unlock door and steering lock, no interface with immobiliser

Stage 2 = Transponder Chip tuned to Central locking system, you can do this if you have one original key = remotely unlock car, disable alarm and disable steering lock, no interface with immobiliser.

Stage 3 = Transponder Chip tuned to immobiliser. You need two full stage 3 tuned keys to be able to tune a third. Without two full stage 3 keys you need a diagnostics interface 'bit of kit'

 

A lot of people (me included) when they have bought a Ford with one key will prepare a Second key to stage 2 so that when you loose your only stage 3 tuned key you are only ' a third fookt ' in that you can disarm the alarm, open the doors and disable the steering lock in order to tow the car to a locksmith or garage with the correct diagnostic stuff.

 

If the key is only prepared to stage 1 you are 'two thirds fookt' in that you can open doors and bonnet to disconnect battery and any remote siren and disable the steering lock.

This key opens the doors and starts the engine, it just doesn't switch off the alarm. Fortunately the usual key isn't lost, it just went to London for the day with the owner.

And there is more.

 

You can mimic stage 3 by 'gaffer-tape-ing' a stage 3 tuned key or chip near the steering lock.

 

Then any stage 1 key will start the car

 

It could be that your mates car has had the gaffer tape fix and a stage 2 key with a flat remote battery. Fooke knows how that little lot interfaces with the 'alarm' side of things.

 

The risk of this is that any shoddy Ford key in a worn lock will get the car started and then you are really fooked because now you haven't got a car........but then agin you haven't got the problem of being locked out

It shuts up completely when turning any moderate right (e.g. roundabout).

 

Is it likely to be driveshaft/CV related instead?

Would this damage the gun?

Are they not set up with some degree of precision?

Would it still shoot straight?

Or would it jam & require overhaul or setting up again?

Would chap be inclined to place it gently on the floor?

I'm leaving my current job, my notice period is meant to be 3 months, however when i submitted notice i asked if i could leave in 5 weeks, which tied up with the end of the calendar month Nov.

They're happy with this as when other people have left, they've had 3 months gardening leave.

 

I've had a expense claim in for a few weeks for my own out of pocket expenses, which add up to £776 quid, what can i do apart from continually call and email them (Evidence trail) ?
