I can see why people might find him annoying but I've always found him quite watchable. During lockdown he made a programme walking along the Itchen from Eastleigh to Winchester using nothing but his phone on a selfie stick and a few drone shots. 

It helped that it's a walk I'm quite familiar with but over the hour he went through dealing with autism, not fitting in at school and how much his dog meant to him amongst other things and by the end he had gone up considerably in my opinion. So good for him I say.

I don't really like his presenting style, but there's a great quote from him I read once which I thought was fantastic about how pandas are just the worst animals. Because they're cute and cuddly they get absolutely huge amounts of money spent on them, and their conservation is often at the expense of other species. He said something like "I'd eat the last panda if I could have all the money spent on their conservation back on the table to spend elsewhere".

I don't mind Packham, but if I'd tuned into a nature show and heard all that depressing stuff I think I would have flipped channels pretty quickly!

On a sort-of related note; the river Test. How beautiful is it?! I was in Stockbridge and astounded at how clear the water is and the abundance of fish leaping out of the water to catch flies. And to think I first went there to look at what was once a grotty old petrol station.

Only a frigging GMC Motorhome driving past us in GOLD.  One of my all time favourite campervans ever and never thought I'd see one in the wild, let alone at all in the UK.  Magnificent thing, looked like it had arrived from another planet.  No photo, sadly, but here's a similar one from the interwebs.

This is the same area I saw the six wheeled silver Citroen CX estate that I was also unable to get a pic of, I wouldn't be at all surprised if they're owned by the same person.

numpies on the motorway ... was ambling along the M58 and went to pass this red shittyron and it stayed there matching my speed ???

so I stayed put and the speed crept up , still he stayed there ....  I was in no rush , I could of stayed there all the way to end of the empty motorway ,,

so to test a hunch ,  I pulled into the inside lane ... and he braked !!!

so whipped back into the middle lane and went past him like he was stood still ..

You mean Stokes Garage in Stockbridge High Street? Many times I looked at that and thought what a perfect house it would make.

Just about enough living space upstairs with a nice balcony looking up the High Street with enough room for a little workshop downstairs and plenty of parking out the back . Plus it just looked cool. Also, can't quite see it here but the River Test splits into lots of rivulets through Stockbridge, one of which is the other side of that wall on the right. Very picturesque.

It got turned in to a restaurant which is a bit of a shame as I liked the run down garage look but it's not like I could ever have afforded it and they seem to have made a nice job of it and at least the building is still there.

 

I'd say both the Test and the Itchen have some lovely walks and the two finally meet here in Southampton to form (along with the Hamble) Southampton Water. I think the Test is one of those chalk streams the south of England is famous for. The water stays clear all the way down.

That's the place. I wrote quite a chunky amount about it for my book about old filling stations. As I recall there was a story about ladies of the night standing on the balcony attempting to catch the eye of passing aristocrats visiting the nearby horse races. 

Now it's somewhere for an overpriced coffee.
