The sun is shining and I have had mrs fp's mums corsa c to repair for m.o.t, nice easy work 2 broken front springs, cv boots inner and outer and handbrake low efficiency, even though every bolt I came to was seized, I enjoyed not having a care in the world

I could do with some of that luck, all I ever seem to get are surprise letters from the tax man, informing me he has somehow calculated I've underpaid yet again, despite the fact I am PAYE and have no extra taxable benefits.

I had a letter from HMRC telling me I owed xxx from last year due to taking a second full time job............that lead to an interesting phone call ............

I never had a problem until I had a company car in 2012, ever since then it seems to be a never ending cycle of you've underpaid, you've overpaid so we'll give you some back, oh now you've underpaid again...I haven't even had the car since 2014.

Back end of last year I suddenly got charged about £500 extra tax in November (cheers, great timing) rang them up to ask wtf...and in their defence, after an exceedingly long time on hold, they rectified it and I got refunded in January, great, must be all square now surely, they've tallied it all up and given me a refund...no taxable benefits to confuse matters, just straight basic rate PAYE

Letter through in March "we have calculated that you have underpaid by xxx"

I haz survived national express holiday. Bit of a wibble when I made kinky girl cry for an hour or two. I got put into an anxiety off the scale situation for 2 hours, and told her to leave me alone when she was going on about it afterwards. This of course means that its all over for some women logic reason.  Plus bonus bout of shitting for England all Saturday night.

Blists hill museum they took us to was amazeballs. There is serious machine porn there, well worth a visit. It feels like Beamish, but with less gouging and the people staffing it feel to have more interest rather than it being a job.

Just been reunited with my intact wallet after clearly leaving it on the roof of my car after filling up with fuel - the person who found it rang my work number from the business cards I keep in there

I got a spare set of wheels for my dolomite for when I am refurbing my set. One has a decent tyre that I will use as a spare, I noticed today it was made in Argentina (known hot bed of tyre technology?) but rather ominously called 'fate', so I wonder if the insurance company would accept 'it was fate' in the event of an accident?

Still watching wheeler dealers 3 hours after it started due to short attention span.....keep getting sidetracked by threads on here and forgetting its on....

I shouldn't bother, I've just watched it and its gone even shitter now, it's all American and they gloss over everything, Edd seems to be in a bad mood too, probably sick of Mike chasing for the money over in the USA.

Can I modernise an old dyanamo front light? Yes, even if it is a bit Heath Robinson.

Had to drill a hole in the back of the shell to get to the on/off/different mode switch (will need an Allen key or something to operate that) and an extra one underneath to mount the light unit itself to the shell. It's really a bigger bodge than it looks as had to stuff a rag inside to keep it central and the lens cutting was awful. It works though and should look better when fitted, plus it's only the 'Mk1' version.

Bit sad this one.... but I LURVE my new telly!

When I was at home, we had a big old CRT thing that we bought new even though flat screen things were about. My wife did research and they were not reliable so we got the 'old' tech. Then, when the 'new' tech was established, we waited for the CRT to die but the sod just soldiered on....

Then I got the boot and ended up here with another ancient CRT which also worked superbly and I would still be using it but a mate gave me his plasma thing that was huge and had a motorised base (cool as poo as I could rotate the thing from the comfort of my chair!) and this is the bugger that died the other day. I could have gone back tot he CRT but....

So this thing is 49" 'smart' telly with 4K and loads of other stuff, including an infra red 'mouse' that you use when on the internet! Why did I not know I could get internet on a TV before? High def porn is the way forward! I shall try it later and report back.... :)

Also, the shop I bought it from (sticking to my 'use the local shops whenever possible' theme) is brilliant and have been out twice so far, first to lend me a couple of stands for it and then to replace them with the big sod off stand I had to buy ('cos the feet/legs are in the wrong place for my old stand) and swapped it all over for me FOC.

Bugger me, is it bright and clear! Wasn't even that expensive (£560 compared to the thousands my mate spent on one that has a curved screen). Only thing is: the new tv and stand shows up just how shabby and knackered the rest of my flat is!

Always a down side.... :)

Sorted out the saggy section of the Renault headlining by moving one of the wires/bows/supports forwards into the correct holes.  No sewing required, minimal effort.  Top stuff.  I'll do an update in a bit, there's been a few little jobs done.

I just did my periodic trawl of the 'Trending' list in the Google app store to see if there's anything remotely useful there. There was (as usual) nowt, but this raised a grin:

Today I removed a locking wheel nut. 5 garages including halfords and kwikfit had already had a go so there wasn't a lot left to hammer a socket over.

Take a 7/8" socket and cut the cup off. Weld the inside to the remains of the locking nut, then weld a smaller socket into it. Brutal but effective.

The Ordnance Survey Story on BBC 4 just now. I love their maps.

On Saturday I discovered the Jag's battery was flat.  It's been showing signs of losing charge when parked up for a few days, it was only used a week ago but I suspect that it had been run flat a lot by the previous owner due to lack of use and a knackered alternator and it never really recovered.

Why a grin?  Well, it was a Halfords battery with '3yr Warranty' written on it.  In amongst the car's paperwork was a receipt showing it was purchased in 2013...but then replaced in 2014, probably the same issue.  I hoiked it out, took it in to my local Halfords who tested it and confirmed it was knackered (100 amps instead of 650) and furnished me with a brand spanking new replacement.

Boshed it in, it fired up faster than ever and then of course I had to take it for an hour-long back road cruisehoon to make thoroughly sure it worked properly.

Yes, it's a word.

Posted

I did exactly the same with the 850's battery last month. I was hoping to do it every two years and ten months forever, but the warranty only runs from the original purchase date.

Excellent! As you can probably guess, all that hair on the brush roll is not mine but the females of the house...
