I'm grinning, just a bit....

Spotted an ad on my local FB selling page that had just been posted saying 46" tv for free, sound not working, asked for it straight away and was collecting it 5 minutes later, got home and whipped the back off wiggled all the connections and did a factory reset and 5 minutes later the sound was back.

I've never had a very good one, but I've never had a really bad one either, but I'm happy with that for seven quid with a pint of something nice. I spend more than that at Macds!

That said Wetherspoons isn't a steak place though - go for something that doesn't rely on good quality ingredients to taste alright. Chilli hot dog is always an absolute winner at the one round the corner.

I got offered a free 42" HDTV 4 years on a freecycle page as the screen had a shadow in the top corner, I took it to work for our messroom and it's never been turned off since and it's still working perfectly!

Ive got a 27 inch  LCD which just went off a year ago, still there gathering dust. No power, no light , it is now an ornament :-)

I got a free 46" Smart Samsung because the screen was scratched - yeah, visible when it's off. As soon as the screen is on it vanishes unless you're watching pure white.

These new tangled TVs don't seem very sturdy bits of kit, a guy at work brought one in for me to look at (electronics aren't my strong point) sometimes it's fine, others it refuses to turn on but will then usually be on the next morning when you get in. It must be something simple but bugger me if I know what. When it works, bonus, when it doesn't, oh well nothing lost as it was free.

With all this talk of TVs, some months back I bought a "40 Sony Bravia flat screen, like new, fully working with remote for £15 from the local chairity shoppe.

Most of the cheaper stuff uses Vestel (Turkish made) electronics and panels and are pretty shit, the Hitachi I just got given has a Samsung screen but Vestel workings, I'm a bit of a TV snob and will only buy decent mid range Sony/LG/Samsung stuff, this free one will be sold on as although it's bigger than the Sony 40" in my front room the picture quality isn't comparable.

Phoned up the insurance company to change from a modern ish car to a 'classic' to be told that it would only be third party they would cover!

Why the grin?

I was then told obviously as we cannot transfer cover we will have to wave our cancellation fee!

Dud capacitor in the power supply - one or more of the can type (electrolytic) will be swollen and/or leaking. Best practice is to change all of them anyway because you already have the thing in bits and it's less than a fivers worth of parts.

Lol, you wanna see how cars are driven and parked here in Turkey.

Me and wife went last year, junctions are optional for stopping, overtake when you can even if it's on pavement and mental taxi drivers. Sound about right?

We did some work for vestel a few years ago- put our way by another customer, he turns up in person with a bag full of electronic bits wanting heavy metals testing for ROSCHE. They never paid- either us, or our other (uk) customer who were also doing some work. Con artists.
