jakebullet Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 Idiot sister pissed me off to the point where I've decided she doesn't exist. Trying to run me over with a shitty kia does that to you. She was moaning to Ma on the telephonic device that said kia is going to have to go to the garage tomorrow. Deity* moves very quickly these days it seems.

Cavcraft Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 A trader mate of mine is selling a seriously cheap Merc C class thing. Plenty of pictures etc to add to the description and the first question he got asked was 'has it got back seats?' strangeangel 1
meggersdog Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 Although I've been paid out on the Discovery and the hire car has gone back I haven't fixed it yet. This morning I was offered a Volvo V40 diesel for £50.00 as it's got an oil leak.Be rude not to.It's done 190k but seems to drive ok.There is a faint turbo whistle but the pipe from the air filter to the turbo is split so that could be the noise.Anyway I've got it on the ramp looking for the oil leak when a guy comes in for an MOT.He looks around the car and asks if I'm selling it as his wife needs a dog walking car. It's a 190k mile diesel estate that's cost me 50 quid and his first question was "how much service history ?" FFS.Drove it home tonight and stuck at the railway crossing (as usual) opened the glovebox and, boom, a stack of bills and a service book stamped upto 170k. Was it the running over or the shitty Kia that offended you? Timewaster Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 Engineering Giants on BBC 4 now. Strip down of 747-400 CIVX I worked on that when it was brand new. 20 years ago. Nothing glamorous, mostly cabin light wiring. Urko and saucedoctor 2
jakebullet Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 Just overheard idiot sister phoning Ma. Garage have rung, and her car needs new points at a minimum. It's an 06 kia picanto. I can't possibly see how they could be taking her for a very long ride michael1703 and myglaren 2
fordperv Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 She has asked them for the optional death race pack. The points are for the front bumper for the next time she tries to run you over jakebullet 1
beko1987 Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 Amanda at work got quoted £160 to change the thermostat on her 2010 astra. When I asked if it was running cool/no heat/bag of shit she said no, they just said it needed doing... I laughed and went happily back to my world where that would cost £8 and a bit of coolant/30 mins work! myglaren and oldcars 2

jakebullet Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 Garage sound like they know exactly what they are doing. I'm impressed. Points on a 10 year old car I don't really blame them. They know it's going to come back at least a dozen times 'cos she paid for it fixing and it's broken again so fix it properly this time. She sounded proud that it's not had a service in 40,000 miles of ownership and there was less than half a pint of oil in it.
RobT Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 Got my 2300s converted to historic tax status after my second visit to the post office. The guy was all for fobbing me off again but I just stood my ground and politely insisted that he could do it. Amazingly he then worked it outalthough there was a rather large line of customers behind me when I left. All post offices that can tax a car can do this even if the vehicle is already taxed (which does seem to confuse them). Tell them the option to change it to historic tax is near the bottom of their screen and that even if it is already taxed the DVLAwill issue a refund once the logbook is changed to historic. Useful information, thanks. I take it you surrender the current V5 at the post office for them to send off to DVLA? I need to sort this for the Daimler which is going in for MoT next week (the fear is already building, but I sort of know what's coming).
Cavcraft Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 Going to work this morning 100 yards from the house I heard a sort of crunch noise. As I looked in my mirror I saw my n/s/f wheel trim roll round the back of my car, over the road and straight down someone's drive! I'm not arsed because it was the wrong one and didn't fit properly anyhow. Richard, rantingYoof and Lacquer Peel 3

JohnDeere Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 We all know how capable modern Renaults are, particularly when it comes to electrics. So I thought you'd enjoy this from a Facebook/Twitter friend: Jxxxxx Bxxxxx3 hrs · Twitter · Day three with the electric car @renault_uk and this charging doesn't seem as straightforward as people say! Or as fast.... Jxxxxxx Bxxxxx And the Birmingham car park took over three hours to charge this morning!!! I think Renault haven't fully activated it yet. I heard from a dealer that they can apparently clock the charge rate remotely - so if you don't pay your finance, etc... myglaren and strangeangel 2

I have hopes for later in the summer...
fordperv Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 I know that one too well my bike is sat under a cover where it's been for the last year unmoved, i have been lazy and tied up with work stuff to do my license though

xtriple Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 I have finally found a new stereo for the dollop. Yay! It is exactly the same (I think/hope) as the Rolls Royce one but branded as Alpine this time. I have no idea on the price and it's coming from an Alpine collector in the USA so not going to be cheap but it should slot straight in. Famous last words above! I know that most of you will be saying that I should just get a new head unit and be done with it, but it's not that simple (never is with the dollop...) as the wiring in the car is totally waffy and seems to confuse the hell out of every specialist audio person who has looked at it. Having a variety of amps in the boot and about 20 speakers seems to add to the confusion. The only way to get a modern unit in is to gut the car, rip out all the stereo wiring/amps/speakers and start from scratch. That, I fear would cost rather more than the new head unit! Also, got a touch up pen for the Mazda from the ex Mazda dealer, two stage and only £5.50 including VAT! It would be more expensive from Halfords (if Halfords did this colour). I was so impressed I have ordered a bit of trim for the door that is bubbling without asking the price. I are idiot! rrsix and richardmorris 2
Timewaster Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 I saw my n/s/f wheel trim roll round the back of my car, it was the wrong one and didn't fit properly. May I suggest that these two facts are not entirely unconnected. Cavcraft, The Moog and strangeangel 3
bramz7 Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 Passed my theory test today, for the second time. Wish I'd actually been so motivated back in 2010 when I did it first time though…. Now, hopefully my practical will go as well, in three months time. Bit gutted they got rid of the shite-o-rama hazard perception videos and replaced them with awful (and confusingly explained) CGI.
