What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

Day off yesterday, so my brain's just gone through that argument with myself about what day it is. Turns out its Saturday, so I have one more weekend day than I though when I got up.

Sold both my bikes today. The Tatran went for £800 and the Vespino for £325.  I actually made a profit on both of them so time to hit ebay to see whats about.

An old neighbour popped round last night to see whether we wanted a couple of tons of free firewood. That's worth a grin in itself, but this is what he dropped it off with this morning!

I went gardening again today with my mate. We're a right pair of knobheads at the best of times and had a great laugh, whilst still managing to do a good job. I bet the bloke's neighbours were really impressed* as a shitty pair of step ladders were lent against a BFO hedge and I was sort of half hanging on, half lopping away, then drove off in a 406 estate full of grass and hedge clippings and veg oil smoking it's bollocks off.

Well thats been an interesting week.

To start with, my cousin confirms date of her recently announced wedding in New York, asks ickle Seth if she'd like to be bridesmaid.  Stars align in such a way that school are willing to sign her off that week (coincided with a residential trip with her class so missing barely any lessons), accomodation has been arranged with friends, resaonably priced flights found and booked. It'll be ickle_Seth's first time on a plane and my first since 2004.

I Googled on Thursday to see if there was anything horological of interest/museum/collections etc to see while there and found the existence of the New York Horological Society. As a result, after a couple of emails it would seem that they are now going to arrange a meeting around the dates of our trip and I'm going to be giving the lecture....

Went to Beamish with my beloved Kinky girl. Very nice watching stuff drive endlessly round, but the bloody place was heaving. They're also rather good at gouging the fuck out of you for anything. V expensive day of queueing.

Yes, this sounds grumpy, but there was a fun highlight. Ticket desk girl wants names for passes. Kinky girl's has somehow come out with Martha on it. Slightly* wrong.

Now you have your ticket, find a day that's not in the school holidays and come back with a packed lunch.  I don't begrudge them taking money, but they equally don't begrudge you not spending it.  The place is worth spending your time on a quieter day.

But then I can say that, cause it's only 10 minutes away :)

You would think a 90 minute queue to clear customs in Morocco in steaming heat surrounded by stinking travellers would be a grump, but not when your resort looks like this...

Is she called Arthur?

We decided not to go - I checked the ticket prices and it was going to cost about £50 just to get in so we went plant shopping and paid the rent on the allotment instead. Sun is out today so back to it!

Cathy. Not much difference to Martha. If you had the typical 2.2 kids, and you indulged them I could see an easy spend of a couple of hundred quid.

I've also got thundering wild shits today which could be their fault or burger king at the services.

It's only just up the road from me, about 8 miles.

We used to go frequently years ago (1980s) but it has become increasingly expensive.  Haven't bee in donkeys now though, may have to give it a shot.

The granny of my youngest grandson works there and he and my daughter are often there - she drives down here and they cycle there along the old railway track, she has a season ticket which is reasonably economical for them.
