How would he know? He can’t have it. Anyway, butter is the Devils semen, according to that famed literary tome, “How to be a complete Bastard” by Adrian Edmonson from the 1980s, iirc🙂

If they advertise butter and don't deliver, I'll want my pound back #stickler

A few days ago I was scrabbling around in a little-used kitchen drawer and right at the back were two ancient and long-forgotten Siemens phones.

To my astonishment, the blue one switched on when I pressed the button - it immediately gave a low battery warning, but still bloody impressive that it'd turn on at all after being untouched for at least 10 years.  The yellow one was dead so I bought a cheapo charger (the original having long since disappeared), and after charging for a bit it switched on.

This was my "daily" phone 20-odd years ago and I used it for quite a while, but there were a couple of little features that I'd completely forgotten about.  I bought the phone off a colleague who'd upgraded, and when he sold it to me he made a modification to the customisable welcome screen.

I'd also completely forgotten that the phone allows you to compose your own ring tones, and when I stuck a SIM card in it and rang it it started playing Turkey in the Straw, which I'd programmed in one evening when I was bored on a night shift having just watched this Simpsons episode.

Anyway, it brought back some enjoyable memories.

Pressed the clutch on the brake pedal then?

My wife did that about a mile after we picked up a new car, went to change gear, foot hard down on the brake as if it was the clutch. Dead stop from 30mph. Luckily  the car behind wasn’t too close.

I don’t know why she did it because we always have automatic hire cars when on holiday.

I remember that blue Siemens model being really popular, I used to see tons when they were current! Always were fantastically tiny things.

Watching the Lord Mayor’s parade on TV. Sally Army band comes into view. Women out front with their tambourines , all sweetness and light.

Followed by the band. Right in the middle big guy with the bass drum, really giving it some welly. By the look on his face he was having some particularly unchristian thoughts.

I had the S35, which I think was just the "grey office drone" version of your yellow one. I remember it being a really well built phone, beautifully ergonomic. I loved playing with the ringtone composer. Did yours have the 3D maze game?

It was the first phone I ever used mobile internet on - for just £10,000 of credit it would download the top five news headlines from the BBC in no more time than it took to boil the kettle seven or eight times, very futuristic.

That made me spit my tea out more than the cost of the Royal Scotsman land tour.

How on earth does it cost 61 quid to travel that tiny distance now?

We were going to be £126 for 2 returns from Perth to Aviemore in Aug 22. Citylink was £22 return for the 2 of us.

Funny thing is that fare to Arisaig involves an hour and a half on a rail replacement bus 😄

Decided to take disco out that's not moved since August. Flat battery. Arse.

I've got one of those fag packet jump packs that's been sat unused for 2 years. Surely it's not going to work? Rapid whirring, brum! Colour me stunned.

Mind, still see a visit to tayna in the near future, battery is 12 years old.

Popped down the grandparents today

managed to find my car battery charger I bought 2 years ago and never used

just as well as their battery is completely dead, and I’ve brought it home to charge for them

IMG_5596.thumb.jpeg.56518f6b0d5a4a4fe5a903a846176af8.jpeg

IMG_5595.thumb.jpeg.2d8b0ce0ac196db5c9e017297dc4c995.jpeg

now if I’ve read the date code correctly, it’s a 2009 battery so original to the car

probably why it died after an hour with the hazards on, let alone a life of town driving

still, what’s the bet it’ll take a charge and work as it did before?

You have all read about the devastating floods in parts of Spain. Most of the news here is very sad. Political infighting, folks  loosing homes, no water or electricity etc.

But this one is a bit of good news and is car related. Left submerged in an underground car park, covered in mud and water for days. This old girl still works.

Would not want to clean the upholstery afterwords would you?
