Not enough swear words?

I like drums, they are easy enough to work on. Work well & give a decent handbrake.

Jag just passed it's MOT with just a bit of seat mount weldage and payment to some nice men to replace the subframe mounts.

Cost me a fair bit to get the mounts changed but to have a legal car for another year it was a bit of a Steel (drum)

Just had confirmation that the client want to extend my contract by another 6 months (and 2 weeks for some reason)

Might not still be grinning when they get word of the rate increase I’ve asked for and tell me to GTF

This evening I took the Stellar on my regular Friday 'trip into the nearest town for a takeaway', and received a double thumbs-up from a complete stranger, accompanied by a huge grin :-D

Mike Brewer just liked one of my tweets!

So that's him, Mark Hamill, and Mark King from Level 42 covered. Just need a like from Kim Jong-Un and that's me done!

Drum brakes aren't too bad if you think about things a bit , do one side at a time for a pattern and it's not Vito handbrake shoes

Or Fiat Uno

I have seen a friend destroy some brand new Uno brake shoes with a hammer. Awkward bastards

[anorak on]

Fiat used those same brake shoes for about 30 years.

127, Panda, Uno, various Yugos all the same with those odd circular spring thingies.

AP LS1290 from memory.

Replacing the Dolly's brake shoes was refreshingly easy compared to the last time I had to deal with drums on a knackered Mk3 Transit van...

They were friction self adjusters.

Stepdaughter's report card at Parents' Evening last night. She's doing entry level car mechanics. Very proud.

report card.jpg

Upper half is practical assessment (4 distinctions, 2 merits and 2 passes), bottom is the theory side. 2nd in the class overall with an average mark of 94% and is earmarked for an apprenticeship at the local VW dealer. I think she's going to make a bloody good mechanic when she's all growed up.

She's already said that drum brakes are "fucking awful fucking fuckers that can fuck off". Good girl!

EDIT - parents' evening was last week, we got the report card yesterday after she came home from college!

Well done to your daughter, I doubt she has discovered the joy of rebuilding calipers yet and the wonders of multiple sticking pistons

Woohoo, Camry went pretty much straight through its MoT (apart from a number plate bulb).

Looks like I've done almost 2,500 miles in it since resurrecting it last year after the accident damage and being written-off in late 2013. Perhaps I should celebrate by getting the tailgate painted and twin rear wipers working this year?......

On the train for a mammoth 520 mile round trip to collect a car I've never seen.

There is method in the madness though, incorporated it with a trip to visit my dear old mum.
