Go to lock up for jack and other tools. After climbing over all the shit and selecting the regular not quite all the tools to carry out the job I decided the jack must be somewhere else. All the somewhere else's searched then back to lock up for the jack.

Though not the handle

Finally up in the air to see what awaits.

IMG_5581.jpeg.5162fd842d72d9563b2467889c15528f.jpeg

Quite apt that came out upside down as it helps the imagery of all that rusty shit falling in my face.

Verniers to check I had the right size to pipe before i got medieval on the old one were on the list of things left in the lock up down the road.

Whatever the fuck these are were on the dash and did the job with aplomb.

Bought new clamps as ive cried the tears of trying to reuse them before. So much easier to just chop everything off and not have an old clamp snap when you tighten it back up. Should of bought new rubbers too though didn't as there's Yorkshire in my blood.

Someone had clearly been here before.

IMG_5587.jpeg.5c4c7cfd4ff8ea577a891ca588f615bf.jpeg

And here. No clamp and spot welded on. Grind grind then then off to find BFH.

IMG_5588.jpeg.f68de29c46b39f9338a0fa73c884cf25.jpeg

Beat, twist yank then slide the new bits together with plenty paste.

Bosh, done did.

First time i've twiddled spanners on this one or indeed looked at it apart from checking the fluids after driving it home and giving it a very quick wash. Have definitely bought worse vehicles.

A few weeks back wired the standard radio to accept bluetooth. This has ingratiated it with the family massively and it's now a rolling singalong machine.

Best go drop it down to the mrs at work I suppose.

We had to pop in to town last night. Came back to the car to find another Up! parked in front of ours. A very early base (12 reg) with interesting* wing mirrors.

Not sure if they were funny, sad or classic giffer tat. I mean I smiled when I saw them but I don't know if that's a good thing or not.

Go on admit it, you're around like minded folk, no shame in it, you've ordered a set, haven't you? 🤣

@Dyslexic Viking & @Gaffer thanks for the insights into the newer style Expert/Dispatch etc. One thing concerns me about them and maybe you guys can shed some light on this. Every review I've read states that the seat, steering wheel and pedals are not in a natural line and you end up sitting pissed, which causes poor posture and backache. One review even said it was unbelievable in this day and age that such an issue is allowed to happen.

Thinking about this it might only apply to RHD models, so maybe DV won't have this issue. As I'm a 6'3 fat old knackered lump, comfort is at the top of the list for me.

I might have to collar the local Evri guy, he's recently upgraded from a Zafira to a 20 plate Dispatch. He'd been trying to buy the Caddy off me when I was laid up last year.

The servicing and cambelts don't worry me, its par for the course, I service the van every 10k miles, which is around every 2 months now I'm taking things a bit easier.

I doubt if your customers will be willing to pay you anything towards the Adblue system going wrong.

They won't, but they do pay me enough to cover the maintenance, with a little bit left over to put food on the table. Its a bit embarrassing really, some weeks I invoice out more than the vans value just for a few deliveries!

It's been over a year since I've driven it now but I don't remember noticing this problem when I have driven it. Dad hasn't said anything either.

So for us, it has been fine.

Fairly new "Bosch" glow plugs replaced as well, look out for fakes everyone. 5/5 were deid and it took a good 60s of cranking for it to build up enough heat to start.

It's a shiter of a job on these too as they are buried under the inlet manifold.

Just done a job for father in law. I asked if he had an extension lead. I was told in the cupboard and found this:

I have hidden it from him!

Sold the A4 last week, as you all probably know.

Still not replaced it. Enquired about 2 cars, no reply to either.

Nothing is bowling me over online, I saw a nice Giulia and considered it, but someone got there first. Probably for the best.

Seemingly torn between carrying on with low price 'bangers' or just committing actual money to something.

It's too hot today.

I've just spent at least five minutes looking for them on line before I got bored and found nothing. If you zoom in they look more like transfers or even printed. Anyway it's probably a good job I can't find any.

Local heritage park had a very small car show on Sunday, had booked in, but children movements meant I missed the time to get in by being at a kids party. Took a few pics of the cars on their way out.

The yellow thing ( I do know what it is but my brain is overheating ) was at my parents fete on Saturday at garden village in Wrexham. Dad didn’t take the x1/9 as he was making hospital appointments.

Can’t say I’ve noticed any misalignment but the seating position with a full metal bulkhead in is abysmal for anyone with legs. You can either be bolt upright and have a tiny tiny bit of legroom or the seat reclined slightly and be rubbing your knees on the dash with (what feels like) your feet tucked under you on the pedals.

Has a fascinating knack of feeling relatively ok when you first sit in until the second you start actually driving and moving about. Definitely get a drive in one first at 6’3! Mine is a 2017 so no idea if bulkheads have been revised since mind.

Other than that it’s a surprisingly pleasant thing to drive but doesn’t feel built as solid as others on the market - that said what vans available now do?!

What is petrol if it's not a fossil fuel?

Kuga auto I think will be a Powershift/Powershit high liability double clutch box that have a terrible reputation.

scrap that idea, i was dubious about the ad, turns out they want too be paid for the vehicle plus delivery, forget that

i found a nice honda crv automatic petrol... thinking again

Thanks for the info, I'll have to try one to see if I fit. I struggle in a lot of smaller vans with a dash mounted gear stick, it reduces the spreading room. I know Partner's and Berlingo's from 2009 on are no good for me, was hoping the slightly bigger stuff would give a bit more space.

Hottest day of the year so far - so the sensible thing to do is obviously escape work slightly early, do a mad rush home, run around like an idiot to do a quick turnaround and get back out the door to catch a train and go pick a car up. Because obviously one Audi A4 in my life just isn’t enough 😂

Some of you will recognise this one - my good friend Craig Cheetham whacked this on Facebook about a week ago, the good old Facebook algorithm decided to bring it to my attention virtually immediately and after some careful thought and negotiation (read that as - ‘I will buy it, just let me know when you’re free for me to collect') I committed to the deal.

This is a very early, June 1995, M reg. The B5 was launched in May 95, so this is probably one of the earliest survivors left on the road.

1.8 SE, 138k miles, ice cold air con and a comprehensive service history. Will grab some better pictures when it’s light, but for now, I’ve literally just got it home!

I don't think it had a plate on the back. But I also don't have any pictures of the back unfortunately, only the next bike along where I can't see a plate on the back.

Didn't get a lot of fettling done - I'd been planning on doing some cleaning of the fleet today but the water has been off most of the day due to a burst main which put paid to that idea.

Well the water is back on and back up to full pressure, but there are still several chuffing great holes in the road where they went in to repair the burst main, right on a busy junction.  So all the traffic is still being diverted past my house, including the Number 34 bus - and as those of you who have been to mine will attest, my road doesn't exactly make an ideal bus route...

There used to be a place in Sheffield, near Tingsley Viaduct, who dealt in these.

They had 2 in when I was considering buying one.

I don't know how well it was covered in foreign media. But a while ago here in Norway a newer Volvo drove through an external brick wall in a parking garage several floors up and a man in the car was killed. And his wife saw it all happen. Norwegian police and road authorities have taken the simplest possible approach as usual and blamed user error, but there has now been an expert who has been examining the car for several months.

And there was no one in the driver's seat, the man was found in the passenger seat. And it has now been concluded that no one pressed the accelerator pedal and something happened electronically that caused the car to go full throttle. And I don't know what set it in drive, but everything is electronic so who knows what's possible.

This is scary and on a car without a clutch and where everything is electronically controlled, I don't know if you can even put the car in neutral while it's moving, if you're fast enough to do so. Cars are becoming too complicated with clearly deadly consequences.

This is the link below to the latest article on this but is in Norwegian but with Chrome browsers one are able to roughly translate pages.
