Please forgive me, for this morning I have drivv like a twat.

There's a bloke in the next village who is a bit of an arse, as I was leaving his very village I heard the rumble of a V-8 Jaguar through my open window. He was righ t up my arse, so rather than accelerate a little at the end of the village, I continued at 30 mph right to the NSL signs, where I let the old Scirocco pick up a little bit of speed before coming to a major roundabout. Circumstances and some particularly accurate gear changing meant that I was in second gear and at maximum torks when a gap in the traffic was spotted. 'Down' I instructed John the dog in the back, and 'Wheyhey!' For an old car weighing less than a tonne and in the correct gear doth accelerate much, much faster than nearly two tonnes of slushbox Jag, when said motor has autochanged up into about sixth! This time I belatedly heard the roar of a V-8, but it never came anywhere near catching up with me before the next 30 stretch. I'll bet he was livid.

Flip side it's funny when Mr Man in his brand new turbocharged $67,000 RST sports pickup truck is trying to get away from a 25 year old $800 Jag and he cannot.

MK1 son has a '64 landy s2a with a V8 in.

I had an 850 Turbo that looked  nothing special, but went very quickly when you put your foot down. Used to love it when much more modern stuff used to charge right up to my tailgate, and then try bullying their way past.

Good of Audi to provide two self filling compost bins.

It is basically a MK4 Golf or MK1 Octavia with a fancy badge but you can appreciate little things that make it an Audi such as the stainless steel trim securing screws that don't snap and actually unwind.

Pulled this out. Also look at the state of my drive. It's getting bad enough that Mrs SiC is passing comment.

And pull that out. Two of British Leylands finest* products.

Spitty oil level was a tad on the low side. Not long did a change either! (I think?)

Put the VP away. The drive over reminds me how much fun the jolly little thing is. There does sound to be a bit of a wheel bearing rubbing noise going on? Need to remember to investigate that when it's back.

Then a lovely blast home. While the weather is so nice at the moment, it makes sense to have it back out for a bit! I forget how much fun these old turds are.

Ha it was only a joke. Although it's frightening how dependent I am on the Beige Teat.

A load of MOT welding repairs are lined up for the next couple of weeks before my next long term job arrives.

Got the aircon regassed again on the Rover today.  Garage reckoned it was holding pressure so I can't have fucked up the new condenser installation too badly.  Obviously now I've had that done the temperature is set to drop by 10 degrees tomorrow, but hey ho.

Rained this morning. Now the car looks like I’ve parked in the desert.

I’ve been using the new A4 for work over the last couple of days and I’m really happy with it. It’s in great shape for its age and mileage with just some minor body imperfections and a bit of bolster wear on the drivers seat being the key points to note.

I still find it extremely hard to believe this is a 30 year old car. I’m still in the mindset of 30 year old cars being late 70s/early 80s stuff.

Ive had a load of these B5s over the years (and also the Passat equivalents) starting with an S reg Avant back in 2007 which, I still considered a fairly new and up to date car back then. This is the first petrol one I’ve had though, so not having the diesel chug is taking some getting used to.

Incidentally, the B7 Convertible I bought from davehedgehog back in April is still going strong and I’m really impressed with how competent that is as a daily. Been an absolute god send in the recent weather too. However, the oil leak is starting to get a bit more progressive (you’ll see the stains on the road in front of the green one) so I really do need to get on and sort that, especially now I’m not having to particularly rely on it as a sole daily driver now.

In the spirit of keeping things rolling, I may or may not be eyeing up a T plate Avant that’s come on the radar today. Watch this space….

The new pylons to serve Hinckley Point. Personally I think they're more visually intrusive than the old steel design.

At least there are far less warning lights on this thing than many of my other cars.

B5s on an M plate have become ridiculously scarce. Haven't seen one for years!

Those pylons look great to me

The Child Bride's SLK had a teeny, tiny, wibble wobble in the steering. Jack it up, slight play in both wheel bearings. Sort those out. Lovely.
Happy Days?
Nope - there's still play on the O/S wheel - inner tie rod has some movement. I thought £30 in parts and 30 minutes.
Nope - turns out what I'm fondling is not an inner tie rod - these things have a full width, side to side, drag link affair that I've not seen before.
Every day is a school day.
Looks like £150 and 150 minutes.
Balls.

They used to do the destructive load testing of the old style pylons in the quarry at Cheddar.

Those new ones are popping up everywhere. Apparently they're stronger than the old open lattice style and less resistance to wind.

I discovered some shortsightedness by Vauxhall/Opel designers. Tried to set the clock in my mum's Astra - all good until you try and put the year in, counts up from '92

And gets to '20 before going back to '92 again

Why they didn't predict a 1993 family hatchback would still be trundling about 32 years later, I don't know.

Also just realised it's now July 🤣

This was on the M25 this evening, from the A1 junction 23 to M11 junction 27. Thankfully I never saw the oncoming vehicle, but there are a lot of speed cameras on this section, hardly anyone was sticking to the 20 mph speed limit, the cameras were flashing them all, stupid buggers.

You cannot have more than 5 bits for the year! Who do you think you are? Oliver Twist?

Just set it to 95 then stick a comical 2 sticker over the 9?
