Haven’t posted a lot recently, as I’ve been doing no AS activities. But I’ve been watching. Like this fella.

Backed into the garage. The cloth on the bonnet is in case it touches the garage door when it’s jacked up. Genuine BMW filter and Millers 10w40

Oil draining. Still nice and golden, given the mileage I’d expect so.

6.5l back in and at the correct level. Reset the service light too, from three green back to five.

Also seeing @sutty2006 collect a Disco and have a gala pie slice, I also went out and had a slice, since it’s been too long  bliss.

That reminds me, the second (emergency) gala pie is still around. Must take that to car show tomorrow.

If it's been around that long the emergency may occur after consumption, not before

From the moment I bought my 6 series, there has been one change I wanted to make and I finally managed to get hold of some sports seats in the correct Chateau red for a decent price.

There are very few reasonably priced, acceptable quality pubs/restaurants my way.

Wetherspoons, and Greene king, are the only places where I can go knowing there will be something I like and I'm not going to have to pay through the nose for it

I could go to McDonald's and spend a tenner on that crap or go to spoons and spend that tenner on a much nicer burger or even a steak and a pint.

Any time I've been to another pub or restaurant, it's ended up being nearly £30-40 a head so that means its special occasions only as it's unsustainable (for me) to go there regularly.

Wetherspoons will usually be at least half of that and I'll end up enjoying it more.

I went to the Harvester last year for the first time in a long time, used to be really nice, but it was £100 for 3x people and I didn't even enjoy any of it. Small portions and it all seemed microwaved or sitting under a heat lamp for hours, dried out.

None of the spoons I go to seem to suffer from the piss soaked atmosphere as described above. Maybe I just choose the right times!

Can't fault the breakfasts, I went to a small independent pub for a cooked breakfast and was served those 30% meat (if you're being generous) 70% bread sausages like supermarket value brand ones, and a "latte" served from a catering tub of Nescafé that wasn't fully dissolved 🤢 - rather than at least from a coffee machine. That was £9.50.. spoons would be much nicer with a proper coffee from a machine, less than a fiver? Can't argue.

No it's not spotlessly clean, and no it's not free from dubious characters but it's a chain pub so what do you expect?

I wouldn’t rank a Harvester any better than a Spoons.
Greggs do decent breakfast items.

Spent the last week trying to re-make and replaced these fuel pipes on the TT which were badly perished.

20230910_151719.thumb.jpg.774ee6a9ca3bc1a1e59c4eb6fe960dcc.jpg

The issue I had was 2-fold.

1) 2 other TTs in the breakers had the same issue with perished lines

2) New ones are unavailable

My first attempt was a bum steer as the fuel line was too thick. As you can see above they bend down low to clear the boost pipe which is above (removed in this picture) and I could t get the marine grade stuff to do that. My second attempt was with slightly thinner and more flexible hose. I lashed it down as much as I could and also made a spacer for the boost pipe so it sat a touch higher. This finally gave some clearance. When I started it I gave the garage and engine a shower in fuel as I hadn't tightened one of the hose clips enough. Interesting how much pressure it's under as it was fair skooshing out.

All seems OK for now but I need to take it on a drive to see if these lines and the trimmed back coolant hose all hold OK.

A rather damp cars n coffee meet this moninrg meant that quality was far more than quantity…

Firstly, fair play to the fella who told me his favourite car of the meet was “that old Saab 9000 over there” before he knew it was mine 😂

IMG_3159.jpeg

Car of the meet though…

Absolutely love a Prowler!!!

Close runner up though…

And bonus spottage on the way home… both a 2CV and a shiter!

The pedal extenders I bought are shonky as fuck and my wife doesn't feel confident with a block  cable tied to the pedal either. So she's getting the TT back, I just hope I have fixed it right. The fuel lines are fine but I'm still not convinced all is well with the cooling system as the auxiliary water pump is kicking in and out at weird times. Her works only a mile away so I can always rescue her if needed.

Ive also made it 75% faster because I moved the seat closer to the wheel so I can now press the pedal harder and it goes like fuck now.

Jeremy Hardy commented about them. On entering and being asked “have you been to a harvester before” , well I’m not going to make this mistake twice.

The headline was NSU show, I imagined a field of Prinzs, 1200s and Ro80s surrounded by dozens of Quickly mopeds. Well not really, but I was still a little disappointed that all we got was one Prinz and 8 NSU bikes. There were three Velocettes, one Yamaha RD250, two MGAs, a VW 412 @Slowsilver Maxi and the star of the show for me was a 1949 21 seater Guy coach. Oh yes I took my Rolls Royce.

It was held at the Caldecotte Miniature Railway, Milton Keynes which is a great venue for a smallish show it is just a shame it was not better promoted and one of the gate people didn’t realise the Maxi was a classic car!

There was a small derailment on the railway but only took a few minutes to lift the open passenger car back on the rails.

Still a good day out and next year as they were happy to lets the motorcycles perambulate around the field maybe I should try and take my VeloSolex along..

mate this is the rarest release of Chase HQ: the Esprit on stage 1 gets taken down by a pork pie. Very rare ROM, limited English release, worth at £420,000, retire on proceeds, respect

I was closing the bedroom curtains and this enormous bastard came out from one of the folds (not a euphemism):

Mother in law is visiting and she was a bit confused after seeing me go into the bedroom with a measuring jug shortly before hearing me scream ‘AAARGH YOU CUNT!’.

I fucking hate spiders. I know they’re good, and they eat other unpleasant things, but still. They make my skin crawl.

Mini has left the fleet.

Golf V6 exhumed from its five year slumber and about to be resurrected.

I've kept the big stereo from the Mini, and I've been collecting bits for the Golf for the last few years, so now it's the time to bring it back to life.

Much swearing about Haldex to follow..

What a shite turnout, only one Prinz & RR. MGA & VW type 3(?) don't get a mention? :)

Didn't get much done on the fleet this weekend, partly because I bought a motorbike which took up most of Saturday

20230916_165211.thumb.jpg.fb00c240c92fbe1a54e6657da89719d8.jpg

It's a cheap Chinese 125, appears to be a Honda CG125 copy engine in a marginally more modern looking frame.  Oddly the rear shocks have two concentric springs each.  My mate bought it off Gumtree not long ago, but he's now got another bike incoming so wanted rid, so he offered it to me at a price I couldn't refuse.  It needs some loving, mainly to the electrics - the clocks are missing (apparently when the chap my mate bought it from owned it it cut out in traffic once and he lost his temper with it and smashed the clocks), and most of the wiring seems to go through them.  He also yeeted the keys, but I found an old key in my extensive collection that would open the fuel tank with a bit of fiddling - I wasn't able to get it to work the ignition lock, but the ignition itself has been bypassed so the bike runs, it's just that none of the lights work.

I took it for a quick blezz round the block once I'd put it back together a bit so it looked a bit less like a field bike, and it actually rides OK.  Not quick and it vibrates a bit as they all do, but the engine sounds sweet and it's pretty light for a 125.  I've got to decide whether I like it enough to fork out 40 quid for a new ignition lock set, then see if I can find some second hand clocks from somewhere.

As the weather was nice on Saturday I also took the MG out for what will probably be its last top down drive, given that the MOT runs out on Friday and it's unlikely to pass another, in my ownership at least.

The beach was rammed, even at about 5pm - I dread to think what it would have been like earlier in the day.

Today I was hoping to have a look at the brakes on the R6 and the Visa, and have a go at making the Renault's cabin a bit more watertight.  The weather had other ideas though, although I did get the offside front wing off the Renault (to give me access to the hole in the scuttle panel behind the top edge of the wing), and I've chucked a cover over it so hopefully it'll eventually dry out in there even if it does keep raining.  One thing that continues to surprise me with this car is that I have yet to come across a seized bolt - which is pretty amazing on a rusty 51-year-old Renault.

I do actually have a NOS scuttle panel for the car, but that needs welding in by someone who can make it line up properly, and who can also get the windscreen in and out without breaking it - which isn't going to be cheap.  So it'll have to make do with wob for now...
