Since I was reminded of it today, I'm passing it on to all of you: Baby oil removes underseal from shoes, clothes, and skin.

I don't know why it works, it just does.

It’s also pretty good for polishing stainless steel.

After much welding, fettling, priming, rubbing and painting, the front end of this 15 is ready to go back to its owner.

Some of the car AIDS.

Everything had to come off.

Paper thin bits needed replacement steel.

Last pic refuses to lie the right way up.

Wow…and when I took the wing off this I thought to myself “jeez, that’s not too bad” ! 😭

As a regular traveller, but not there this weekend, traditional Bank Holiday mayhem at Dover Port. Not great in the temperatures atm. A lot of folk travel unprepared for a wait alas.

One to avoid if you can:

Shit is the same at a number of  airports too.

The Xsara Picasso decided to FTP for the first time in the 4 years I've had it. The crankshaft position sensor seems to have taken exception to this hot weather. After cooling down a bit it did make it home, but it doesn't like restarting when hot. Only £26 for a new sensor, cheap enough for me to parts cannon. Not bad :)

We've got this to come on Wednesday in Ljubljana.

I had to do all this when flying out of Prague last year and it all worked perfectly with no delays and took no longer than normal passport checks. I can see how it's causing chaos at Dover if you all have to get out of your cars and traipse over to some other place to do it but I don't see why an airport should be any worse than normal.

Which doesn't mean it won't be but it shouldn't be. I'm sure those Slovenians are a sensible bunch of lads.

Summer evenings with little traffic and nice weather are the perfect time to take a drive which I did today.

I purchased another display case for my old model car collection that has been packed away since a house move in 2002 for a modest £20 earlier.

I was 35 when I last had this motley collection on show.  Depressingly i'll be 60 next year...

The Singer Chamois bothering continues with new cylinders for the back brakes and a flush through the pipework with fresh fluid. With handbrake cable slackened right off and the shoes adjusted before resetting the cable again I have ended up with a decent pedal well until I disturb the front brakes anyway.

Both cylinders already on the car were semi seized and causing the brakes to drag.

IMG20260520172350.jpg.7d572a9a713fe97f9024d03cb1fe812c.jpg

The budget doesn't stretch to new shoes but to be fair when you only do a 1000 miles a year they're not going to wear out anytime soon.

IMG20260521135925.jpg.aa156e5bb9d8cc0c5679a127a7bf35a8.jpg

My cheap vacuum bleeder made pulling fresh fluid through dead easy with no fear of flipping the seals in the master cylinder with constant pumping up and down.

IMG20260523090951.jpg.7326c6985f1dffdef468f16fe9ddf5e8.jpg

A new vacuum advance unit has been fitted hopefully it will improve the cars modest performance.

The front is up in the air now as it's having new cylinders and a fluid flush/bleed/adjust along with new track rods, rack mounts and front shock absorbers. Actually there's some upgraded nylon lower arm bushes here too for it.

I have never paid these cars much attention before but to be fair when they came out they were really ahead of the game I reckon.

They were great cars the Imp - cruelly starved of  development in the Rootes/Chrysler mash-up. Had so much more potential.

Here's one currently for sale in Sunbeam Stiletto flavour:

Allowing for a minimum of 5% speedometer over reading I reckon you've got another 28k to do before reaching a genuine 500k.

Spotted near my sister’s home in Appleton yesterday. Early Renault 4 and a lancia fulvia parked on the road outside a house. There used to be a Volvo Amazon nearby too.

I had plans to go to the local 'cos they have a covers band on this afternoon but instead I pulled some more bits off the shammy.

It was all going well until one of the bottom arm to body bolts decided to be seized in its mounting bush meaning the rack had to come out so I could access a couple of hidden bolts and drop the mounting bracket as well

But on the bench some heat was applied and everything was good again.

Coil overs are going back on along with Fiesta based track rods.

Other than a job delivering a mattress to Gareth Bales gaff near Madrid a few years ago, I tend to politely decline foreign jobs these days, the British Isles are enough for me to cope with.
