I have just been sent a picture from a friend to identify the car?

My first thought was Merc W123 but now I don't think it is that.

The door handles appear to be lift handles rather than buttons to prevent opening in a roll over.

I think the car behind it is a Viva HC?

I'm looking at ways to fix it.  Rebuild by a professional seems most wise, I don't want to venture back in on this one.  Rebuilt pumps seem to be in the £300-500 price range, with requirement that you send your old pump for rebuilding and that there may be an extra charge for any parts that need replacing.  While the throttle shaft is available (the bit on the right with the black sticky outy bits) for about £40, the rod that holds all the springs which is snapped on mine appears not to be.  So that might mean that my pump can't be rebuilt because the spares aren't available.  So that means getting another Bosch VE mechanical injection pump (the 1.9 pump is usually different to the 1.7 pump from what I've seen and the cable routing on the top doesn't match up) to replace this one and then send it off to be rebuilt.  The only source of second hand pumps I've thus far found is second hand cars, but I don't really want to be lumped with a whole car I probably can't then get rid of when all I need is this piddly little rod.  By the time I've bought a car and paid for a rebuild I've probably spent as much as a brand new pump anyway and by that point I've probably paid more than the car is actually worth.

Should have just sent it off to be rebuilt in the first place, but it was just one piddly little o-ring I was replacing.  This wasn't supposed to happen.

Is there not something else you could bodge in there in place of the snapped rod?

Countless times I've broken something on a car by accident and managed to find something roughly the right size and shape and modify it then bodge it back in.

Never seen that shape before. Doesn't look like any of the Cedric body styles of the '70s.

Actually those c pillar vents are partly hidden by the tree but they are there as is the double swage line when you really look. We have a winner!

I was aware of these but it is a long time since I looked at them at the Motor Show. My father nearly bought one as a company car, in the end he bought a second-hand Mercedes 220Sb.

A Suzuki oil filter has been located, so I’m actually going to do some car stuff at last! This is where I discover I need a special sump plug wrench as well.

I’ll do the Toyota tomorrow when teenager comes home from work.

Managed to acquire a second hand pump for the BX for £110.  Considering one part I need is £40 and the other seems to not be available, I'm hoping it's a sensible purchase.  Plan is to rob the bits out of the pump I've bought for my pump and then punt the remains on for whatever I can get for it.  Then save up and send my original pump plus parts off to be rebuilt professionally.  Princess as daily driver again in the meantime?  Probably have to.

As our garden waste bin was finally collected this week I was able to get this back to a vaguely reasonable state.

Just a little bit had to come off.

It was literally a case of mowing one strip, stopping, emptying the grass box, repeat 350 times...got old!

I have no issues with the green waste collection having been put on hold, just would have been nice if the fact it was happening had been broadcast.  Likewise that collections were resuming, I only found out because a friend had heard from someone who works on the run.

Need to chuck some grass seed down by the fence, hopefully now the bushes that were always shading that area are gone it might be able to actually fill in there.

Mower started playing up towards the end too, not sure if the primer bulb is leaking or if there's an issue with the fuel pickup in the tank.  It only seems to be picking up from the top 10% of the tank though.  Parts are cheap so I'll just get the likely candidates ordered then pull it apart.  The primer is looking quite crusty (I changed it about five years ago I think) so that's probably suspect number one.

It's a '98 1.8 Zetec Ghia. Just over 120k

The seats and wheels are from a '52 plate Zetec as the originals had 'gone off' 

 

It'll be on a Boris MOT from the end of the month.

It has a Class 26 running over it, so likely to be 1973 onwards, as BR engines started to carry their TOPs codes from then.
