Camry taken for an MoT this morning:

image.thumb.png.9a2eaa916f0711b8bfb5f93167147b1a.png

Both the failure items as expected. Unfortunately I only found out about the headlight last night and it was too cold/dark to faff around changing it when I knew it would fail on the ABS light.

Pleased to find no rot/brake/suspension issues. Will get them to advise on what's up with the ABS and get it sorted. I have the spares car here if need be, although I do wonder if there's a bit of rodent damage.

I could do with getting it on the road again as I seem to be doing a lot of extra miles due to various dad's taxi duties, and it's not ideal to keep using the Sunny at this time of year.

Well that was an uneventful collection mission.  It's a modern* diesel Audi so as expected it got me home quickly, economically, safely and boringly.  The only thing that makes it vaguely interesting is that it's been remapped from the factory 130bhp to 162, according to the dyno printout, so it GLF when called upon - it'll easily light up the front tyres on the throttle in first.  I wouldn't call it a sleeper though as people expect diesel Audis to be going fast.

It's a base model so cloth seats, keep fit windows in the back and no cruise.  It's not in bad nick apart from the rear bumper needing realigning and some bizarre corrosion on the roof.

RobT and co are right though - London is still a fertile hunting ground for chod.  These were all taken within a few hundred yards of each other in Hackney this morning.

These two were on the south bank of the Thames - not exactly chod, but make a nice change from the usual butchered H van (of which there was also one).

Even Aldershot (where I picked the Audi up from) isn't entirely without interest when it comes to chod spotting.  These were all taken on the walk from the station to the seller's house.

Had to do a double take there!

you were very close to where I live LOL

those are the Morris minors I have talked about in my thread (cc @mrbenn  :) )  , and I remember spotting that pickup back in 2015 or so, I found it most interesting that it was a US truck but RHD :) (somewhere I might have a crappy photo I took of it back then)

(although I dont recall the blue moggie living so close to the green traveller maybe there are more moggies around here then I realise!)

Another outing for the VP1500 today to a small gathering at Cardington, Bedfordshire. The MG Midget 1500 following me on the way over remarked how well the VP went!

Only trouble is I have lost my tailpipe somewhere along the line.

Today I fitted an exhaust centre section to the Peugeot. It is now a lot quieter, and will hopefully stay that way this time.

I'm kinda unimpressed with how well it does an estate though, the tailgate aperture isn't big enough for what I mainly use it for, which is bikes.
I want another R8 - a mate of mine has pointed out a twincam Honda Concerto, and a plan might form there.

In other news, I'm very very broke and need to find a job I'm mentally capable of doing (bear in mind I'm looking into being diagnosed with ADHD, too). Whilst the bike shop is good for me, it's casual employment and whilst it's exactly what I want and need right now, it doesn't provide and my parents aren't helping. Life is a bit of a bastard.

I think I've decided that old cars are something for other people to enjoy. That is all.

Don't be daft.

Nobody enjoys old cars.

On a run to my local lidl to top up wine supplies last night i noticed at the dealership next door that a mate of mine runs he had taken a renault kangoo in as a trade in. Its 2006 test is out a few months and taxed till end of month. Was dark so couldnt see its condition but will pop by there again shortly. Its a 1.2 pez which will do fine.

3 things i know :

1. I will probably buy it if its available

2. I will probably get it for small money

3. My wife will probably divorce me. She has already said not to bring it home. I think i will have to hide it somewhere for a while

Hiding a car from a wife.  Would it be easier to have an affair ? At least you'd have a excuse to drive "Someone elses" car.

It doesn't work, she always knows the old Peugeot in the back lane or round the corner in the car park is mine.

Last time she said nothing until she suggested we used it for a trip out.

Good luck with the diagnosis stuff. If the bike shop is good for you, sounds like it's worth staying there in the short term (easy for me to say)

News? Hmmm.

Been to Halfords, bought a dehumidifier bag to try and dry out the interior and a bottle of concentrated screenwash. Fealt stupid using my trade card, but hey, 50pence is better in my pocket than their till. Only 50 p because both items were already on offer and heavily reduced.

Then drove to the park with mutts, beautiful day so roof off (I did dry it this time before putting it in the boot!) and so much effin' traffic all queing and being rater slow. There's a set of lights on the sea front which is two lanes straight on but everyone queues in the outside so 20 cars outside and one 125cc bike in the nearside.

Guess which lane I went in?

The I did a stupid: massive accelaration from the lights. blew the BMW on my outside and then overtook the 125 that was in front of me. There are childish fuckers and then there is me... But, it does go very well, it does sound really good when you boot it and even though advancing years and wrinkles should mean I know better, I really don't!  :)

Front speakers in the Jag sound absolutely bloody awful. Let's find out why.

Hmm...Where do I start with this?

IMG_20200119_161137.thumb.jpg.dff219e8605afb5bade147b72f68e9b8.jpg

Speaker not actually screwed to anything aside from floppy doorcard which they busted all the clips on when they fitted it.

Speaker cone actually touching the door card around the cutout for the old speaker.

Speaker utterly knackered because they didn't cover the back of it so it was full of water.

Why do I smell a Halfords installation here...

Oh yeah, when I went to the park, it was a tad busy - it always is whenever the sun makes an appearance, loads of gimmers sat in their cars with their flasks and cheese and pickle sarnies wrapped in greaseproof paper, why not get out of the car you twats and get some fresh air? Oh yes, it's cold... anyway, a guy in a blue Suzuki Swift is reversing out which is tres handy I thinks, so I left yards and yards of room behind him and waited patiently. He then drove it into the car parked alongside him!

Cue one old codger getting out of the silver Honda and a bloke so old he must have known Methusala getting out of the Suzuki and much ranting and raving. Forunately, someone else left so I parked, let the dogs out and was busily picking up the first of Chesters many poops when the old, OLD boy drove past all the windows up and he was still having a mammoth rant/argument with the other bloke even though the other bloke was still stood by his car inspecting the damage... there was no one else in the car either. I think he was arguing with the voices in his head.

I'd say it was amusing but that is to understate the point, it was hilarious! The combined ages of these two old guys must have been 190 years young and I genuinely thought they were going to have a punch up! As he drove past, I noticed he had a half chewed portion of cheese and pickle sarny sliding down his cardi...

That's just missing some British Steel signs and numbers, five people in it and going sideways down a mine track.

Obviously I wasn't* involved in anything like that back in the late 70's, early 80's.

Further to my post in Wednesday, my 172 now has a new subframe, bottom arms and a lower engine steady as well. A grand job done by our dome's friend Stuart with the former also venturing up on Saturday night and chipping in with assistance. Apparently Cooper the spaniel was unimpressed!

Photos are from dome, straight to my living room.

Unsurprisingly the old subframe was howling.

Unfortunately the rest of the structure of the car at the front is showing it's age as well somewhat although nothing out of the ordinary for a near 20 year old car. Power steering lines are also corroded although still fluid-tight.

After being advised of this on Saturday evening, I slept* on it (*lay awake all night anxiously mulling it over) and decided to just continue to drive it. Life is too short to worry what will happen next, car wise.

It drove home much better than before with no rattling bushes which helped with this decision.

The car thanked me for my perseverance by trying and partially failing to jettison it's middle exhaust heatshield which now clangs furiously at idle. Out with the hacksaw tomorrow night!

Thanks to dome also for a lift up to the farm today and a run in his Audi S4. "Its quite the way to travel the country" he said, couldn't agree more!

Audi door seal continues to leak as the so called rubber restorer had no effect. I've ordered some red rubber grease to fill the tiny gap that is letting in the drops. Should work I reckon!

Going to be collecting 2020’s first arrival tomorrow... Which means there might be a Saab 9000 up for grabs very soon. Question is do I fix the door first or just roffle as is...

Morning all,

Ex-roffle, ex Uncle-Fester Mazda 323 in for it's first MOT with us this morning...  fingers crossed.  Didn't need anything that I could see, so pretty hopeful.  Funny how much we've all grown to love this wee thing, felt bad leaving it at the garage last night... like leaving the dog at the vets!

You've no idea how much this dude loves this car!  It has been absolutely perfect for teaching him how to drive and maintain a vehicle.

UPDATE:  Failed on a perished ball joint rubber... nothing else to report, pick up on Wednesday!

FINAL UPDATE:  Done and home, my friendly mechanic removed the old rubber from the balljoint, and just replaced that... didn't even know that was a thing!  He's a good guy, as I pulled up tonight he was moving a 1953 Ford Anglia out of the workshop having just resurrected the ancient sidevalve donk and replaced the tyres... old school to say the least!

28 year old Mazdarati lives to fight another year!
