Top tip - replace it with a length of 4x2 from local timber merchants, make a saving.

In all seriousness, what is the anti perforation warranty? On some Nissans I think it's 12 years.

If they are anything like Alfa Romeo they will say that it isn't covered  by the anti perf warrenty. I had an Alfa 159 with a rotten front subframe but as it is a bolt on component they said it wasn't covered. No surprise it rotted out really as the new one barely had any paint on it and no anti rust treatment at all.

I had mentioned on here that I was going to move on the ex Vantman Saab 900 which has been my daily for the past couple of months.

Replacement daily comes courtesy of Bramz.

He was coming down to Devon to collect another vehicle so we hatched a plan for him to deliver and I then delivered him to his new purchase.

It seems to drive very well, but the test is short so we'll have to see how that goes!

Oh, and Saab still available.

This, the front subframe also looks alarmingly orange.

It's an 07 with 165,000 miles so I'd say well beyond any corrosion warranty

One week after the CX battery had a full charge, followed by a rest in the shed:

post-23014-0-75402300-1532791350_thumb.jpg

That's 0.7v down with nothing connected. I'd say that was fecked.

Nothing for it now, except for a beer. Estrella. That will do me until I can find sixty-five quid for a new battery.

12.73v after a weeks rest is fine, presumably it was at 13.4v after being charged right up full? Anything over 13v on a resting lead acid is just the surface charge which drains away quickly.

That said, it could still be knackered - but you can't tell a lot about a battery with voltage alone.

As Cobbler says, that looks fine. Very rare for even a new battery to read much above 12.7v after standing.

If it was buggered, I’d expect to see under 12.5v

Can you load test it? My Citroen garage has a big metal clamp thing they put across the terminals. If it drops to 9v it’s definitely dead. Often you just loose one cell which would give you just over 10v on charge. Yours may be ok.

put a load on it , such as the 4 amps of a  head light bulb and see if the arse falls out of the voltage within minutes .......  if not , try it again in the car

Hmm... I don't have any specific test equipment at the moment, but I can probably buy a load tester thing from Amazon.

Only one way to find out....

Cats and myself headed along to Classic Nostalgia at Shelsley Walsh today. A half-arsed video will appear at some point, but until then...

We were guests of Stratstone UK - perhaps they're considering a Dacia franchise. Mr Cats enjoyed this McLaren thing. I enjoyed capturing video of its pantograph wiper. They were quite happy to entertain such oddity, as if I'd asked to hear the engine revved.

This Simca 1500 estate is surely the nicest car there. You don't see many of these! I do of another, and it's owned by an Autoshiter too...

This Chevrolet-powered Vauxhall Firenza was insane.

Though possibly not as insane as this mid-engined Austin Seven special, with chain drive.

Then a Big Healey got biffed. Ouch! Driver walked away, having learnt that if you lock the brakes, keeping your foot down isn't the solution...

It was hellishly greasy up the hill, so very entertaining to watch. I'm back there for the Retro-Rides Gathering on 19th August, and can wholeheartedly recommend it.

Some car park shenanigans to finish. I liked this 600, even if the passenger wiper blade is too short.

Rover in good company.

Don't know if it's going to be a grin or a grump yet.  My dashboard is currently sat under a load of books, two used Princess brake discs and a cast iron casserole pot in the hopes that's enough pressure to get the veneer to glue evenly.  Without drilling out a million rivets to strip all the fixings off the back of the dash insert, using a vacuum bag or clamps isn't really practical so this is the method I've used.  Hope it works!

Today I experienced something called rain, I vaguely remember it, unfortunately this meant the driver's side wiper blade fell apart. I popped into Halfords and was impressed that they actually had one, it was just like the old days.

Swapped the Marina over with the Rover today at the in-laws ready for a show next weekend (I need rear belts which the Marina hasn't got yet) took the opportunity to take a photo of the pair together.

Apart form the UPVC door that shot looks very mid 80s, both cars look fantastic.

Just think. The SD1 was launched while the Marina was only halfway through its career. It looks like there should be a much bigger gap between them!

Just goes to show how dated the Marina was and how futuristic the Rover must have been!

Nice plate on the bike

The father in law has just bought that, it's a CBR600FF Xray, apparently, looks quite snazzy in orange and grey.

In other news last night some woman got her Range Rover Sport stuck on Felixstowe beach during the storms while trying to retrieve a jet ski, after spending the night bobbing about in the sea some hobos turned up this afternoon to try and wince it out with a pair of Transits during the Felixstowe carnival whilst the whole of the town watched, obviously this all goes completely tits up for them, as you can see...

I've been following that (RR) tread, Trig. Unbelievable how daft some people are.

Fucking hell what a fiasco

My old next door neighbour leant his Toyota carina with a tow bar a mate to take his jet ski to the beach. He said you can borrow it But DO NOT take in the beach.

Clearly his mate took it ion the beach and promptly got it totally stuck as the tide came in.

He got the phone call and tried to tow it out with his 3.0 senator (fucking clearly a terrible tow vehicle on the sand ) and got that stuck too. The both of them ended up getting washed out sea and ended up in the daily record. Try filling that one out on your insurance claim .

Still, I bet he didn't owe as much in finance payments as the owner of that Range Rover probably did...

There’s an old series 3 Land Rover under Hayle beach, in Cornwall. I used to go there on holiday a lot and one year someone took the Landy down onto the sand to drag a jet ski back in but it got stuck. Tide came in and flipped it over. Once the tide went back out it was half buried but it had gone so far down the beach recovering it was pretty much not worth trying so it was left. The next year I went back there was a solitary tyre and wheel poking out of the sand covered in seaweed!

It’ll be long gone by now, probably buried some way down. It made the local papers at the time I seem to remember.

Talking of jet ski’s, a mate at work is into them. Years ago him and his mate used to take their ski’s down to Lee-on-Solent in the back of a Transit tipper, reverse the Transit down the slipway into the sea far enough to float the ski’s out of the back. Then do the same thing to get them out.

You can imagine what all the salt water did to the Transit! The chassis collapsed and it had to be scrapped after a few years of it!
