Update on the flight of the Morris Commercial. Here we are on the return journey, stopping to top up with motor spirit at the Cambridge services.

I've never shagged a kangaroo, but reckon that with a decent load on the Morris gives a similar ride on our poxy roads. (It have no shock absorbers). Anyway, 300 miles in a weekend isn't bad for an 85 year old. Service intervals are 500 miles so another grease-up soon.

Will unload when it stops raining, but here's one of the many lovely things under the tarp:

I've heard the 'Teagle Jetcut' loses some of its allure if you have to spend all day strapped to one, (16:1 mix).

Cutting the hedge in the nude might not be adviseable with that unguarded drive-belt.

Two weddings in a week, Hastings and Edinburgh, 1259 miles without a hiccup.

The M6 can fuck off however.

There's always the alternatives

Thanks for that, I looked and guess what, you're right :) Fun in the rain can now commence :)

Seemed a bit lumpy to me.

at this point, even after tea and cake, we were pissin' wet through. so time for home.

a shame the weather was so poor, as usually this is a cracking show, but the wether, wind and constant rain maent that none of the autojumbleres had come, and that maybe a quarter of the cars that would usually come to show, had come to the show.

still, we got wet, and while we came away home early, the time that we had there was fun.

Oof that Fairlady though.

In other news, I suffered my first loss of traction event in the MX5 on Friday. Sharp left turn, slightly uphill so I was on the power, and the back slid out. Overcorrected slightly for a not at all elegant zig zag slide. Fucking terrifying. Glad there was nothing coming the other way or I'd have hit it.

Keep seeing adverts for www.driiveme.co.uk - one way car rental mostly with Hertz and mostly between airports for £1....

hey Slarti, I used to LOVE getting the arse out in the MX5, it was/is really controllable, you just need to get used to it/practice some as they really are chuckable little things and when they slide, it is really controllable... usually! However, the roads are extremely greasy at the moment after all this damn sunshine ( :)   ) so easy to get it wrong. Practice somewhere open and empty to get proper 'feel' for the car. I'm not suggesting you become a drift God, but if you know what it will do if the back steps out then you gives you lots more confidence in the wet or greasy/slippery conditions :)

Behold the B series bimble!

Watched a couple of your other videos mate - very good.

If an mx5 is sketchy in a slide, look at the tyres. Good tyres should be easily controllable even when traction has been lost.

The normal reason for a zig-zag path up the road when sideways is lifting off too much so the back snaps straight too quickly.

Have to agree, I had some absolute turds on the back of mine and it was distressingly tail happy in the wet with absolutely no progression. Replaced for decent boots and it was much more predictable.

doing this in a Volvo 240 thanks to a dumping of oil on the road was fun , the dam thing went sideways to sideways numerous times  whilst I fought the wheel ...

thankfully I was entering a 3 lane wide junction with no other traffic and large grassed kerbs  .... my arms ached afterwards from the effort   !!!  ,

I really thought I was going to lose the thing .......

I once ended up stationary in the outside lane of a dual cabbage way facing the oncoming traffic after being a twat on wet roads in a ovlov 340. Rather worrying when you can see the mongs steaming towards you without slowing as they just aren't looking.

Apologies if we've already been through this and I've missed it, but has anyone heard from tooSavvy recently?

Mazda 626. A few repairs, Fresh MOT and Giffer URBEX.

  • Headlight repair: Wire rotted through at a connector. Few skotchlocks and job was a goodun.

  • Developed a miss fire at idle and would run normally as revs increased. Pulled plug leads when engine was running and could hear pop, pop, pop on all plugs but engine was not affected when number 4 was pulled. Single carb, therefore, highly likely fuel going to all pots. Dad and I spent ages bodging up a makeshift HT lead to see if number 4 lead was duff. Cleaned distributor cap but no change. Both perplexed as to why it was lumpy on tick over only. If the culprit was a dodgy plug, lead or cap I would expect missfire throughout the rev range. We decided to check the compression. I was really shitting it hoping the devil didn't have significant engine wear. Compression was 125 rising to 140+, all good there. After a significant amount of time we realised I unplugged a vac pipe accidentally with all my excessive rooting under the bonnet. Pipe attached and the engine ran like a watch, although I felt slightly embarrassed.

  • Drivers Door Handle Fix. Dad managed to rivet broken door card bracket and fit door handle whilst I nipped to the loo to lay some cable.

  • Mazda Got a fresh MOT! Good condition underneath, tester found 1 uk spec headlight and 1 continental.

  • Jobs to do: rear break shoes and near side wheel cylinder, replace exhaust downpipes, make a polycarbonate window panel that is fully functional and find a continental to uk headlight conversion kit.

Little victories. My 405 now has Peugeot wheel trims all round - pound shop ones frisbie'd into the bin.

Courtesy of ebay, there is also on the way a new nearside mirror and front indicator to replace the rather beaten up / held on with masking tape ones on the car.

Next on the list is investigating the lack of front electric window operation. It's not the fuse, so I'll have to go looking for the relay.

Blimey.  Bit strong there mate!

Pleased for your Mazda.  That's some proper shite there with an MOT.  Long may it live!

Cheers bud. I always thought those 406's were great. I remember reading some motoring mag way back when and he said the ride quality put many more expensive cars to shame. Thought the chap was spot on with is his assessment.

Lol. I have a soft spot for them. In my eyes as a child I thought they were fantastic. A couple relatives and mates parents had them and I wanted one so badly that I swore when I turned 17 and got my license I would have one. If not one of them I would have a Reliant Scimitar. I was blissfully ignorant thinking it was possible for a 17 year old to insure one of those in the 1990's.

Bought this tonight for the wife, pick it up tomorrow

fc32d9cea2b35eb721b4265373a86dec.jpg

It was very cheap, it is one of those new fangled 1.4tdi units (so it'll probably explode on the way home) and it'll do millions of MPG.

It's not the quickest thing in the world but she drives everywhere at walking speed anyway.

The mileage she is currently doing means a car of any actual value would be worthless after a week. She's embraced her inner autoshiter with this one.

Bonus points in my eyes are the pope mobile styling and the totally buttery biscuit base spec level, you have to use an actual key in an actual lock to open and close it, no fancy remote central locking here. Hell it doesn't even have a lid for the glove box.

If she doesn't get on with it there's every chance I could be tempted to take it on as a daily.....

Those are fucking hideous and I mean that in the nicest way possible.

I really like them, much better value and more practical than the equivalent VW shitbox too. Well bought!

Reminds me of my old Berlingo just more rounded. I can't make up my mind if it's as ugly or more ugly than the Bingo. Are the sliding rear doors. Those are ace.
