This particular example is 13 large for a rubber bumper MGB, but it’s only done 16k. Fair enough.

But for crying out loud, this trader wants £13k and he’s put a set of bloody Woosung tyres on it. Seriously, £13k and you won’t even stump for a set of Uniroyals?

Ordinarily I wouldn’t give a damn but this particular trader has a big advert in the classic car mags with the headline slogan “Quality is remembered long after price is forgotten”. Clearly this doesn’t extend to pulling your recently purchased classic out of a ditch after a mildly spirited corner.

I think Woosung changed their name to Nexen many years ago. So seems less likely that the dealer has chosen to fit new ditchfinders, and more like he’s just left ancient tyres on the car and smartened them up with a bit of boot polish.

Given the lack of any safety aids, good tyres are something I look for in an older car.  Cheap tyres makes me wonder what else they've cheaped out on

The underside of that does not look full of wob, it looks like it's never been driven. The price doesn't surprise me, sad that it'll never be driven like it was designed to be, though.

A Sales Manager at Garrett, bought a series 2, G Reg I think. It was stolen with 6k on the clock. At 6 months old. Under the terms of his insurance he was due a brand new replacement. Eventually after 3 months of threatening to take the insurance company to court, a brand new H reg was delivered to him.  Where they found it is unknown, but apparently they spoke to almost every Ford Dealer in The UK and Ireland. 

By that time he'd had a promotion and a company car, so when I met him in 2009, he had it in a heated garage and it had 5k on the clock. I'm guessing that 22 years later it's probably got 10k on the clock. If he still has it. 

I haven't spoken to him since 2000, and can't remember his name, just imagine that he's probably about 70 years old now. He always seemed a little ocd too.

To an extent I can see the logic there. My 2CV has cheap Nankangs - but then the top speed is only 15 mph. Tyres on a classic like that are unlikely to see the massive loads and wet weather that even the most basic modern car will, and won't have the longevity requirements either. Guesswork here but I don't think there's much of a market anymore for premium high-profile tyres in tiny sizes.

Has been well looked after just needs a bit of TLC again. Drives very well only know issue is the exhaust and drives seat electrics.

Open to all offers just very keen for it not to go to scrap as it is a very loved car.

 

At 5 bags I'd be expecting a painted bumper, over 4 months MOT, less crusty seats that worked, a sorted exhaust, photos taken inside the car and maybe £3k in cash left in the boot.

The 'dont scrap me' plea should be reserved for cars hovering around scrap value not 3months take home pay
