Mine said “well you contacted me”. Duh? Isn’t that how customer / seller works?

Yeah, " Because you were soliciting for work?"

This statement tends to anger me hugely.

Never understood this.

I get out the van for anything. I do have a call out charge though so it's always worth while. Most customers understand this and are just pleased you turn up no matter how small the job is.

Remonds me of a Chinese made lighter my mother bought from the pound shop. It had a picture of a golden retriever on it - underneath it said "kitten."

Ebay.

I bought a genuine TPMS sensor for the insignia but never fitted it ( because none of the tyres had them 🤣 ) which has languished in the garage.

So I listed it on ebay. I haven't sold anything on there for a while - it's doesn't appear to be really set up for auction any more - everything is around buy it now or make offer - if you aren't careful you could get caught out. I did manage to list it as an auction.

Aye.  If it ain't worth you getting out of the van for, there's something far wrong with your pricing structure, at least to my mind.

Just tell me what you want for the call out, give me a vague estimate as to what the work will cost (which I fully understand with things like this is exactly that, you never know what you'll find when you start digging), and then if you say you're going to come and do the job, actually turn up.  If something comes up and you can't make it, no problem - just let me know when it's reasonably practical to do so, so I'm not left waiting all day.

We have a local plumber that lives less than 2 minutes from my house.  I walk past their address when I walk the dog.

Called him up once for a small job.  Maximum of half an hour.  Happy to pay callout charge, etc.  His wife booked us in and he then didn't turn up.  No word, no apology.  I didn't bother following up.  Two months later we had a moderate bathroom refit that was a relatively easy earner - mainly just fitting a shower cubicle, etc.  Called a completely different plumber that turned up on time from further away, did the job efficiently and cleared up after himself.  Wouldn't dream of calling the local guy now.

The problem is exactly that. It’s half an hours work, he might have something on that’s a full days work.

It's not hard to send a text, or a message by carrier pigeon.

Call out charge.  And he's two minutes away.  We were booked in for a 1630ish time as well, so it's not like it would have been a full day.  I work from home so am flexible.  Not exactly difficult.

Could understand if it had been a mid-morning or Noon time, without flexibility and miles away.  He could have literally carried a toolbox over.  When I say two minutes walk I am not exaggerating.  Walk through a snicket out of the cul-de-sac onto the avenue and 100 Yards down there.

I've got the bus into town to sit around writing stuff for work. Just went to put my noise cancelling earbuds in...

Bastard. I have absolutely no idea how this has happened, I can only assume the universe intends on mildly inconvencing me today. The worst part is I looked at the other pair and decided not to bring them because the noise cancelling isn't as good.

Annoying isn’t it, I left mine in the gym, there was only me and one other person in there (who worked there) just before closing time when I went back the following morning they were gone, the (same) guy on reception flat out refused to look at the CCTV, thieving twat, £240 gone.

There’s a burger van outside the place my wife works. The other day he had 24 rolls stolen . The building has CCTV so they checked it and sure enough, they saw the thieves. However the police just weren’t interested. It wasn’t the fact it was just some bread rolls, but the fact the thieves were three crows.

Shirley that would be a murder investigation.

Still none the wiser how it got there.

Why do I *always* remember one more thing I meant to include in an order to whatever supplier I'm putting an order in for approximately 20 minutes after submitting it.

They have found out that they are going to put new asphalt on the road past where I live. And two things about it, I don't see the point since the asphalt that is there now is perfectly fine so it's a waste of money.

And two and the big thing, I have not received any notice about this and it is now impossible for me to get out by car as everything is chaos and I know nothing about what is going on, it would not have been difficult if when they were in the area yesterday and put a note in my mailbox and informed me about this but as always in society now no one cares.

But luckily I'm not going anywhere today.

My phone went missing yesterday.  I must assume it's dropped out of my pocket somewhere.  I've checked both cars, including in the door pockets and under and around the seats; no sign.  I rang it last night but it's on "Do Not Disturb" so I don't think anyone could have answered even if they were holding it in their hand.  This morning I've been retracing my steps from yesterday; it hasn't turned up.

I suppose it's just a good thing that I'm enough of a dinosaur not to use it for internet and photos!  I'm typing on my laptop now and I have an actual digital camera in my pocket.

Episode 2.

Spoiler alert: I found it!  It was, of course, in the last place I looked, a place I'd only looked in 3 or 4 times already.

I got a message at lunchtime, asking me to pick eldest son up from work, as they’d suggested he go home sick. Said he felt crap and has now tested positive for covid. Ffs! I really don’t want to experience that again.

I'm working at Glastonbury. Part of the pleasure* of going to festivals is not knowing who'll be camped next to you. Sometimes you'll make friends for life, sometimes you'll make friends for a weekend of (mis) adventures, and sometimes, well sometimes people like the four who pitched up yesterday camp next to you. Parked the hire van, no made no attempt to level it before getting the deck chairs out and starting to get pissed.

IMG_20250625_125554.jpg.fd5adab3a58012c40cb5efc28256cbee.jpg

Baz n Caz and Wayne n Nita, two couples in their late fifties. In lieu of a personality Baz is wearing a festival hat whereas Caz has a bubbly personality* and believes she is funny the drunker she gets. Wayne is a hen pecked husk of man, the closest he's got to satisfying Nita is that time he spent 3 minutes licking her cesarean scar thinking it was something else. Nita is a self-styled earth mother who believes in crystal healing, ley lines, past lives, the whole woo shebang.

I learnt all this yesterday as they sat out at the back of my hearse working their way through a crate of canned pre-mixed cocktails. Caz chain smokes Embassy whilst Nita sucks on a cherry vape the smell of both permeating into the hearse.

Neither couple seems to like each other or the other couple much. As they got drunker last night the passive aggressive comments got louder until an argument broke out. At this point I offered them the option of shutting the fuck up or me pouring a can of petrol over them and setting them on fire to a round of applause of other campers in the area.

Can't wait for the music to start to drown our their innane chuntering. Honestly, give me pilled up ravers or tripping hippies over pissed up boring people any day.
