I'm annoyed with google.

This afternoon I misplaced my phone so I decided to use the very useful "locate my phone" feature on google to find it. This of course meant signing into my google account from a new device because I wasn't at home or at work when I noticed the phone had gone awol. Usually this is easy...

Today, google wants to text a verification code TO MY PHONE before it will let me sign in to locate said phone. I've given it my username and password but because I'm using a new device...all the other options given also involve having the phone, clicking "I haven't got my phone" gives a message saying sorry, you can't sign in then because you might be a hacker.

I went home to sign in from there and found my phone on top of my laptop, but that's not the point.

You have to love technology.

Really?  When was that enshrined in law?  I'm having none of it!

Sorry I forgot to type that in a sarcastic voice.

I work with IT all day & come home to no TV & a 1960s radiogram. Technology has it's place & it's place is well away from me most of the time.

Top tip, you can print a series of emergency codes that you can keep in your wallet for these occasions.

Signed up with a GP today after about ten years of not having one. Doctor (was shorter than me and had a good 6 or 7 stone head start too) had the cheek to tell me I could do with losing half a stone!

"Hi doc, I'm having trouble sleeping lately, a bit stressed out. Some nights I'm fine, other nights I just can't switch off. Over the counter sleeping tablets don't seem to do anything other than give me weird night terrors that freak me out. It's not so bad -  I'm fine after a couple of pints but you can't go on like that forever, can you do owt for me?"

"Hmm.. Have you tried spirits? Maybe a few shots of whiskey? Red wine is good for you"

"well I'd rather not be drinking TBH"

"Oh, OK. Have you tried a new pillow?"

FFS!!

pics of the radio

As requested. The little blue screen top left is a DAB receiver that outputs to twin phono which then goes via a converter cable to 5-pin DIN & to the aux in so I can listen to Absolute Classic Rock on it all night.

Mrs PBK is really starting to hack me off. Constant whingeing about nothing. My mobile was cut off today as I had exceeded my limit and generated a bill for calls. You'd think I'd killed nuns and kittens with a fucking chainsaw. Am off sick at the moment and with pending op it looks like I won't be back in work until mid Feb. Whinges about not doing anything constructive during the day. Hmm, that might be due to excruciating back pain, fucked left leg and right leg not being overly happy. I do the shopping, the cleaning, looking after her bloody Micra. I go to the gym as often as possible, I do what I can. She sits on her arse chatting in her authors/proof readers chat group most of the fucking day and only disturbs her precious activity to cook Ben his meals.

Losing my patience with this and other shit.

Matsui dab receiver? I built one of those into a 1948 HMV radiogram a year or so ago. Slightly grumpy now because it's in the house I had to give my wife, but hey ho, I'll just do another one.

Prefer planet rock to absolute personally, same songs but better DJs.

Matsui is correct, I had to check as I had no idea.

Can't get Planet Rock on DAB here so absolute it is. I used to listen to PR at the weekend & Ab during the week. I now just don't have the radio on saturday mornings as I hate frank skinner.

Doctors seem to have about four "Go to" culprits for any problem'

Broken leg? smoke too much,

Athletes foot? getting old,

Going deaf? drink too much,

Sore throat? overweight.

Don't get me started. A doctoral degree is the best seal of quality that you're dealing with a total thunderclunk.

Funding targets init. Part of my role is teaching medical ethics to practice managers.

Most people don't realise that GPs are effectively run as businesses now. For adding people to at risk lists they can get additional funding.

Interesting impact of GDPR is that they will potentially lose a source of revenue - cost of providing records to solicitors after accidents etc.

May I recommend you take a look at Primordial Radio?

It's streaming only, but essentially crowdfunded so after a free month it's subscription (or go to the free tier with just music, no presenters)

They play awesome music, the presenters are good, and ZERO ADVERTS

Maybe the doctor was a bit suss about someone signing up and asking for tablets? A bit like a mechanic, with his regular customers, and then someone comes in out of the blue with a Laguna II and wants the handbrake cable fitting. You'd want to build up some sort of relationship first.

I know it's sometimes unavoidable but maybe that's why there was a bit of resistance.

Apart from me not getting round to glueing some sort of modern music tech into it yet, but we've only had it about 6 years...

"Hello Parky, we saw your profile on LinkedIn and we have a job we think you would be ideal for"

"Ok great - however I haven't actually done that before so if you want an experienced candidate I might not be best placed"

"No no, we realise that but you know the people and the technical side we can teach you. Come in for an interview"

THE DAY AFTER THE INTERVIEW

"Hi Parky, just to let you know we won't be taking things further owing to your lack of experience in the sector"

Been noticing fuel prices creeping up again lately.  Perhaps it's the run up to the C-word.  Maybe it's the B-word that's causing it.  I keep track of fuel costs etc because I'm sad like that and the highest figure I have on record is March 2014 when it was a whopping £1.29 p/l, that'll be about when all the fuel protests were happening too.  Currently my local fuel places are sat at £1.19 p/l, which is a rise on the price two days ago, when it was £1.17p/l which was a rise on the price it was three weeks before that when it was £1.13p/l... Fuelly is really useful for providing a cost record.

I wonder how high it has to go this time before people start protesting?

Wasn't it announced a while ago it was due to go up again due to the drop in the pound?

It was north of £1.40/l in 2007.

I paid £1.51 at a service station near Coventry a couple of weeks back. Was partly my error in putting V power diesel in.
