chaseracer Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 Anyhow. Yeah, they're encouraging colder washes. Looks after your clothes better, much cheaper to run (like 20p a wash cheaper) and "bugs" generally need biological material to survive so unless you've crapped your pants you're fine. Mites etc will be killed with a soak. You can even get liquids for cold wash (where cold is defined as 20°). Don't use powder though, it won't dissolve properly and will clog. Thanks Mum! myglaren and Pillock 2

fordperv Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 Same here.I usually hang my spanners up this time of year as I'm not a fan of getting cold and wet laying outside under cars.I've now got a garage but that's full of Capri parts at the moment so totally unusable.Once the weather warms up and drys up in about April I start doing stuff again.I will do essential work and smaller jobs or if it's a dryish day do some welding as that warms me up danthecapriman 1
captain_70s Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 I have a cold, couldn't sleep last night, got two hours kip. Now at work and feel like death, utterly knackered and everything aches...
danthecapriman Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 I have a cold, couldn't sleep last night, got two hours kip. Now at work and feel like death, utterly knackered and everything aches...I've had one recently too. If it's the same as mine the good news is it only seems to last a couple of days! I felt ok Thursday, got up Friday and felt awful, sore throat, lost my voice, headache... by Sunday I felt pretty good again! Get well soon!
beko1987 Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 The problem I find with cold washes is it clags the machine up after a while, like driving a modern diesel at under 2k revs for a year... We wash mainly on a fast 40, as we can do a few loads a day at peak, and because our washing machine is modern toss it can't take big loads, so small and often seems to be what it likes. Every month or so, on a Saturday (we get free electricity on saturdays), if Amy goes out I'll put some dyson filter and hoses, bath towels, my car clothes, whatever can be done at the time really through on a 2 and a half hour 90 degree wash. The smell that comes out of the sink plughole can be something to behold, and it always smells fresher inside afterwards! Eddie Honda 1

Maybe I sounded harsh but it's true that a day or two off is probably more productive for a company than cold ridden employees potentially making mistakes and having a lower productivity anyway. danthecapriman Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 Last Friday when I felt grim I didn't go to work, just rang in sick and it was no bother. No point going in, spreading the evil to others and they wouldn't get a good job out of me feeling like that anyway. They just said to stay indoors, keep warm and get better! Which lets face it is one of the top 3 activities for babies. ...and with the price of car seats, I can't risk shrinking the covers so daren't wash hotter. It just seems like a bad design brief for baby items if washing isn't one of the top considerations.
Exiled_Tat_Gatherer Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 Sodding heating pump......... I'm not a feel the cold person so the heating is rarely if ever required chez moi......... until GF shows up and it's like I'm living in an ice-road episode and she's dying! So of course she turns everything on......I found a huge lake of water in the basement washroom about 5weeks back - could not for the life of me work out what was the source - so everything got opened up, cleaned out, reseated and sealed etc.... with washers/seals/rubber bits replaced - just to be sure. All OK and no more lakes..... job jobbed - or was it? Last night - GF pumps up required heatage........ nothing doing. I noticed nothing from the radiators - eventually clicked after she confessed she'd turned it on back then (lake day) noticed a 'problem and noise' and shut it off....... without a bloody word to me. Now I know* the lake was the pump shitting its load and the water cascaded from the 1st floor all the way down, behind the false wall covering all piping, to the basemement where it pooled. This evening will be begging a teeth sucking plombiere - not to butt rape me for winter emergency rates I reckon.......... fuck it!

Kiddie stuff absolutely should be able to survive a boil wash, I'd gone off on a tangent. Sorry!

British Gas I think. Homemade UPS sounds a great plan to pair with it.

Also got a right grilling the last time I phoned in as apparently you have to give at least two hours notice. Unless I literally can't come in physically I've not much choice... eddyramrod Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 So not banned from entering, just winning then? When you win, claim it was not a roffle dearest, it was a raffle. note: It would probably be best if you are in your best running gear or a suit of armor at this point. Not buying cars then? Or lending me £3 which I return as a couple of tickets? Sadly, I suspect it also means buying the tickets, just in case I should win! I've booked tickets for the Nightfire Rover and the 106 (not paid for either yet) but if anybody wants to take them over, please feel free. Otherwise I'll just have to hope I don't actually win one. HH-R Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 Being off with a cold is a funny one, when I worked in a school I literally seemed to have one every six weeks. You're told in one breath not to come in because you're just perpetuating the problem, but if you were off three times in a year it was a disciplinary.
ruffgeezer Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 I hit and killed a dog on my way home tonight. I feel terrible for the owner who had been looking for her from the roadside, and left my details with his mother and the police. This has also caused significant damage to the Volvo, ergo I am now without any working cars.
