Peugeot 206 hdi estate ? It has a cat C for a light rear end shunt and the EML on for the egr valve. It is on a 54 plate and I have been using it as my daily driver for about 8 months including a trip to Paris with no issues. It has had a recent cambelt and clutch £650 Just off the M5 in Wellington

That might have potential. I've been looking at 306 estates, but hadn't considered a 206. You have PM good sir.

Condolences to Dan, shit news.

My grump is: my cold has turned into flu.

I think it's 'proper' flu as opposed to 'manflu' as I heard the test was if there was a fifty pound note lying on the ground outside, with manflu you'd go and get it, with proper flu, you'd just say 'fuck it'!

I have shivered and shaken then sweated my tits off in the same minute and currently can't keep any food down. The only time I have vacated the sofa is to let the dogs out.... and that is a major chore! Just taken them round the block and died at least three times.

Scirocco had a big FTP this morning, something to do with the timing I suspect, as it would turn over and not catch then run on when shut off.

Meant I had to use my housemates 59-plate Festa to get to work.

Running a 25 year old classic as a lone daily does not appear to be tenable.

Anyone got a cheap diesel daily to offer? Preferably in the South West, and preferably estate shaped.

W202 Merc c250TD estate for sale here £500.

I've done 11k in it in 6 months without an FTP.

I keep breaking things:

Sunday night I noticed daughters glasses were a bit loose. Decided to tighten them, but somehow managed to completely break them. I think the problem was the arms are spring loaded meaning I could not get screw through the eye on on end of arm. By try trying force the screw through I've now split the top ring the screw goes through on the main part of the frame.

Yesterday: came out of work and my wouldn't start (c-max 2.0tdci). Suspected loss of fuel prime as garage survived it the other week an it would not start then after fuel filter change. Determined not to call out breakdown and having no tools no skill and no idea I spent a few minutes trying to turn it over. Then had the genius* idea to turn it over in gear. Got half way over the car park, realised it was a bad idea, then had to crank it back into a space. When it was back I'd thought I'd flattened battery. The recovery man said battery was fine and I'd fried the starter or the alternator or both. If I'd just left it, it would probably have been sorted by now.

Bus has just lunched it's fourth power steering pump in under a year. Managed to complete the school run and get the kids off but I've now cunted my back and shoulders.

And I'm not back at base yet.

And I thought changing alternator on the motorway was impressive!

The standard of driving recently seems to be getting worse. I don't know if the coppers are bothering to lift people for dawdling along in lane two as promised, but it seems to me there's an inordinate amount of knobrockets using the third lane as a sort of personal bit of road.

On top of this there's more people than ever barrelling their way along road trying to bully you out of the way and rolling up to junctions then sticking out a few feet before they actually stop.

Cms , has the system been completely cleaned and flushed after the initial failure ? Seen it a few times on hyd systems where a pump has failed and filled the system with fine swarf . On tractors it then takes out the danfoss steering orbital which is a few grand on some .

When I came from filey the other Monday I was stuck in the 50 mph stretch of m1 down to j28 and there was a little old toyota with a old Indian woman driving it who refused point blank to move from the middle lane. The she sat for mile after mile at about 48.925mph.

I agree, and I especially dislike town driving now. I have been driving 15 years and my GF only passed 2 years ago, If we go into town I prefer her to take her car, she cant see the problem because she is relatively new on the road, but after 15 years I do notice more and more pillocks who seem quite happy to drive within an inch of your back bumper, people cutting you up and generally taking stupid risks.

Sometimes I jump on the train into Southend if im on my own rather than drag the big Rover into Bellend on Sea. Drive into Southend on the weekend and you've got dicks in suped up stuff coming at you from all angles at twice the speed limit.

This nearly became a good thing - the garage called to say there is a 150A fuse from the battery to the starter/alternator that had blown responsible for the lack of functioning starter.  They bypassed it and it now starts great - in fact they claim the fuse could have been providing resistance as the starter was previously a bit slow, but is now turning over much faster - Great News, no starter or Alternator required.

I went to pick it up and indeed the starter is much quicker - unfortunately the car is now much slower.  It feels to me like a turbo problem, as in it appears to be doing nothing. No apparent smoke or misfire, and the inital take off seems to be normal, but seriously lacking in power.  Will rev to 4+k in neutral in but in 3rd onwards is lacking any grunt at about 3k, or lower is going up a hill.

I'm really not sure what to do, I really like the car and wasn't and don't want to look to replace it, but it also needs clutch (+ DMF).  I'd prepared myself to pay for the clutch, but not sure now with this serious lack of power.

Another feckless attempt at maintenance. Tried to adjust handbrake lever travel and wound up binding handbrake on. Took two short test runs and horrible cooked brakes smell before I accepted it was binding. Put everything back the way it was and will leave it the fuck alone. If that wasn't bad enough, the under trays are still rattling despite making sure everything is secure and done up properly. It's driving me nuts.

Oh, and why is "Sellotape" branded sellotape so shit?

I stopped the middle bit of the exhaust blowing.

Now the front bit is blowing!

Swapped the cut springs (which were clonking and moving) on the front with Spax lowering springs.

Ride is now even worse than it was! :(

I'm great at fixing things, and preventative maintenance. I try and fix it, it ends up being totally fucked and is replaced with a new one. There, fixed!

First world problems and all that:  while giving the BMW its bi-annual wash just now I stabbed my finger quite deeply on a very pointy bit of fancy fake chrome vane in the bumper, then proceeded to fill the wound with brake dust when I washed the wheels.  Will probably die of finger cancer now.

Fucking hell Richard!

I was clearing some narrow hoses in the Council Estate's PCV breather system and lanced right through my left index finger with tacho wire covered in Volvo crud a few weeks ago.

Still a bit ouchy.

Those interested should refer to my corresponding post in the grin thread for the yang to this posts ying.

Went to the beach last weekend and while things were generally peachy, some other stuff was shit.

The hotel - I picked the first hit from google for a hotel in this town. It had a dozen or so trip advisor reviews which were all great and one "terrible" single star review which sounded like it was written by a right pedantic knobber and the hotels response seemed reasonable so I went with it.

The price was a bit strong and we could have had a Formule1 or Etap hotel for much less, but they are always out of town and this was right on the shore and 45 seconds walk from the main centre of town for food etc.

Firstly, the dude must have some magic camera lense because while the rooms decor corresponded exactly, the rooms were fucking tiny compared to the photos. It was all a bit worn too - nothing filthy, just obviously several years of use with little real maintenance....grubby tile grout, worn floorings etc. Hardly the stuff of nightmares if I was paying budget prices, but for premium pricing I dont want a layer of dust on top of the telly and holes worn into the lino on the bathroom floor.

It was hot as balls too. I had got it into my head the rooms were air conditioned but obviously confused the place with a different hotel, so slept with the window wide open and plenty of mosquitos coming in for a drink.

"Free parking included" said the advert. Turns out this actually meant "just leave it on the street outside, you probably wont get a ticket."

A bunch of tramps were living nearby. They would come out at nightfall with their pack of manky dogs, pissed out of their minds, fighting, shouting and generally being obnoxious before bedding down and sleeping on the beach. Found plenty of used johnnies on the sand around the area they used, the filthy cunts.

Usual tourist-trap pricing in all the shops and eateries....cant really grump about that I suppose as its standard everywhere.

The wee Escort ran well but the suspension is a bit wheezy. Its developed a nasty groan from the front right over bumps and the back end is a bit bouncy and wobbly. New shocks needed all round, I suspect which stings my pisser a bit as the recent CT was passed with flying colours. I am having real doubts about the CT place I use.... stuff which to me is important seems to get missed - ie worn suspension, but he will happily make life miserable over me running the wrong size of tyres or some other pointless non-fault.

The exhaust is blowing here and there too, which got worse over the course of the trip.

Watched "an hour to save your life" on the haunted fish tank.

There's a woman on a push bike who's obviously got very squashed by a truck turning left at a junction. We have open heart surgery in the street, shit loads of more surgery at hospital, and then the end voice over bit says 'tragically she died'. No shit Sherlock.

They missed the obvious chance to put in big letters on screen, thick gits on push bikes, if you go up the inside of trucks at junctions you will die. Don't do it.

Fucking lurgy befell me today biblically, coughing up huge wads of thick greeny crud, one lung feels like it just stopped working, eyes watering, nose watering wheezing like an old mouth organ. Barely get enough air in me to get upstairs. Fucksticks. Everytime I try to lie down I have a coughing fit where I nearly pass out due to lack of oxygen. Bugger ....

Just literally got over this. Started last Wednesday at work, had to leave early. Got home, went to bed for a few hours and felt even worse when I woke up.

Lurgy seems to happen in stages with me; sore throat, then headaches and pains, then blocked nose/coughing, then phlegm through coughing/nose and generally feeling shit.

Since Wednesday though I've been mostly busy which has stemmed feeling crap, only Saturday when I stayed in all day did I feel shite.

Took the Mazda out for a run today. I was nearly back home when something hit the car with a huge bang and left a scrape mark on the windscreen. From the bang I thought I was lucky the screen was ok. Back home and there is a large dent and gouges through the paint in the centre of the bonnet.  Was it a wheel nut off the truck that was passing ? Something in me hopes his wheels all fell off
